  • Shashank Manohar Quits As BCCI President
May 11, 2016 16:52 IST Shashank Manohar Quits as BCCI President Shashank Manohar has stepped down as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India after he took over the post following Jagmohan Dalmiya's death in September 2015. Shashank Manohar has resigned as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He took over the position following the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya in September 2015. Manohar, 59 who was a senior lawyer, was BCCI president from 2008-2011 and was replaced by N. Srinivasan In addition to resigning as president of the BCCI, Manohar also stepped down as the BCCI representative in the ICC. In a letter addressed to Anurag Thakur, the secretary of the BCCI, Manohar said, "I hereby tender my resignation with immediate effect from the post of President of Board of Control for Cricket in India. I also resign with immediate effect as the representative of BCCI on the International Cricket Council, as also the Asian Cricket Council on which I was nominated by the General Body of BCCI. I thank all my colleagues and the staff for their support and cooperation during my tenure. I wish all of you all the very best in taking the cause of Cricket to greater heights." Manohar's exit means that this is the shortest-ever tenure by a BCCI president. There were speculations that Manohar could resign as the president of the BCCI in order to contest for the post of independent chairman of the International Cricket Council. According to the ICC rules, the chairman should be of independent nature and can't act in dual role keeping his position as his country's cricketing chief.

  • Dr. Gokaraju Gangaraju Book
It gives me immense pleasure to inform that Dr. Gokaraju Gangaraju has done exemplary service to Andhra Cricket Association. I know Dr. Gangaraju and his father and both of them are people of noble heart. They are always keen to serve the society. Recently I inaugurated the picturesque twin grounds at Mulapadu in Krishna District. I also inaugurated the first- ever historical Test match at Visakhapatnam. After taking a look at the grounds and other infrastructure in different districts of A.P, I am thrilled by the dedicated efforts put in by Dr. Gangaraju and his team. I requested Dr. Gangaraju to give a proposal for developing adventure sports on the hillocks of Mulapadu and other sports infrastructure across the State. Top officials of BCCI, recognising his services made him the Vice President of BCCI. I would like to appreciate Dr. Gangaraju, his team of office bearers and members of ACA, who stood by him in all his endeavours in moulding ACA as a role model association in the country. 1 1 I take it as honour to inform that Andhra Cricket Association, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Gokaraju Gangaraju, has made tremendous progress in terms of development of game and infrastructure across the state of AP. I have been watching Dr. Gangaraju in BCCI meetings. He comes to the meetings with one agenda - to seek facilities to ACA, demand postings for ACA members in sub committees of BCCI and more number of international matches for the association. He always sought the coveted Test status to Dr. Y.S.R.

  • The Indian Premier League (Often Abbreviated As IPL), Is a Twenty20
The Indian Premier League (often abbreviated as IPL), is a Twenty20 cricket competition created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and chaired by the Chairman & Commissioner IPL, BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi. The first season of the Indian Premier League commenced on 18 April 2008, and ended on 30 June 2008 with the victory of the Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. As the second season of the IPL coincided with multi- phase 2009 Indian general elections, the Indian Central Government refused to release the Indian paramilitary forces to provide security, saying the forces would be stretched too thinly if they were to safeguard both the IPL and the elections. As a result, the BCCI decided to host the second season of the league outside India.[3] On 24 March 2009, the BCCI officially announced that the second season of the IPL will be held in South Africa.Though India did not host the second season, the format of the tournament remained unchanged from the 2008 season format. The third season of IPL is scheduled to be held in India from 12 March 2010 over a period of 45 days[4] Four new venues, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Dharamsala, have been added[5][6]. Other changes include removal of icon players [7] and granting permission to players who were involved in the Indian Cricket League to play in the tournament Existing Original Eight The winning bidders for the eight franchises were announced on 24 January 2008.[12] While the total base price for auction was US $400 million, the auction fetched US $723.59 million.[13] The official list of franchise owners announced and the winning bids were as follows.

LOSSES CAUSED TO BCCI DUE TO N SRINIVASAN 1. On 22nd March 2009 BCCI decided to move IPL to South Africa. BCCI President Shashank Manohar chaired the Emergency BCCI Working Committee meeting, which approved the same, and resolved that the tournament can be moved and BCCI should get RBI approval for operating the Bank Account in South Africa . The responsibility of the same was entrusted to Secretary BCCI (attached are minutes of 22nd March 2009 meeting as Annexure 1). • The BCCI Secretary flew to South Africa and had a meeting with Cricket South Africa along with his team and decided to contravene the BCCI Working Committee and decided not to have RBI approval at all for conduct of the tournament. He devised a clever mechanism , that too without the approval of the Board , whereby BCCI did not open any account in South Africa as Mandated by BCCI after approval of RBI, but he chose to go the route of asking Cricket South Africa (CSA) to open a bank account for the purposes of BCCI. For this N. Srinivasan executed an agreement on behalf of BCCI with Cricket South Africa (CSA) on 30th March, 2009. One of the conditions under the agreement dated 30th March, 2009 was that CSA would open and operate a dedicated bank account for conducting the tournament., as if it was a BCCI account but camoflouged as CSA account. (attached is copy of agreement dated 30.3.2009 annexed as Annexure-2). This is what has come to haunt us now, as we have voilated the RBI guideleines and ED has served us demand on the same.
