Realnetworks Announces Support for Wiiware RealNetworks Announces Support for WiiWare Boingz to soon be available as Real's first WiiWare title SEATTLE - October 3, 2008 - From Nintendo's Fall Media Summit, digital entertainment services provider RealNetworks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK) today announced Boingz, its first WiiWare™ game for the Wii™. Designed specifically for the Wii platform and its unique motion controls, Boingz will be available exclusively on WiiWare soon. Marking Real's entrance into the console market, the game will be shown for the first time today at Nintendo's Fall Media Summit. "We are thrilled at Nintendo's ability to continue bringing countless new fans to casual games with the Wii," said Matt Turetzky, vice president of content and non-PC platforms in the Games Division of RealNetworks. "With the launch of Boingz, we are taking our casual games to living room consoles for the first time and taking advantage of the unique game play capabilities of the system to craft a casual experience targeted specifically for Wii gamers." Developed by the award-winning studio NinjaBee and published by Real, Boingz introduces players to bendy, stretchy little critters who've found themselves scattered about an alien world. Players must help the Boingz free the rest of their friends and find their way back home by solving a series of addicting, mind-bending puzzles across thirty levels of fun. Using the Wii RemoteTM to grab, stretch and fling the rubber-band bodies of the Boingz, players direct the team one by one to bounce around the environments, traverse the seas and even build bridges with their own bodies. Created exclusively for WiiWare, the single-player world of Boingz is a surreal, colorful landscape that will entertain players of all ages. "Working with RealNetworks has allowed us to branch out to Nintendo's Wii and create an innovative new IP with awesome physics and fantastic visuals," said Steve Taylor, President of NinjaBee. "While we are best known for our collection of titles on other platforms, Nintendo's WiiWare will bring to life a game that we have wanted to make for a long time and believe fans will truly enjoy." RealNetworks' Games Division is a leader in the casual games industry worldwide, with a vertically integrated development, publishing, licensing, distribution and retail business. Casual games are family friendly and easy-to-learn but often difficult to master. In addition to WiiWare, Wii and the Nintendo DS™, RealNetworks offers titles for the PC, Mac, and a variety of mobile handsets and portable gaming devices. "Boingz" will be available soon for download via WiiWare. WiiWare games can be found in the Wii Shop Channel. For more information, go to: http://www.gamehouse.com/wii/. AC 2009-1414: USING THE NINTENDO WII ® TO TEACH HUMAN FACTORS PRINCIPLES Lesley Strawderman, Mississippi State University Lesley Strawderman is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. She conducts research in the area of human factors and ergonomics, specifically looking at the impact of large scale service systems on human use. She has received her IE degrees from Penn State and Kansas State Universities. Page 14.1334.1 Page © American Society for Engineering Education, 2009 Using the Nintendo Wii ® to teach Human Factors Principles Abstract This paper describes how to use of the Nintendo Wii® game console to teach students a variety of human factors principles. First, the concept of Signal Detection Theory (SDT) is explained using a personalized searching game on the Wii®. Next, an activity involving human sensory systems is discussed. Finally, a learning module that addresses control design and feedback, focusing on the game’s controller (Wii Remote or Wiimote) is presented. Potential topic areas for future activities, including human computer interaction, are also discussed. The teaching activities described in this paper have been successfully used by the author in past semesters. A sampling of student feedback is provided in the paper. Finally, a discussion of how the activities could be extended to non-human factors courses and outreach activities is presented. Introduction The Nintendo Wii is a popular video game console that allows the player to interact with the games in many new ways. The focus of the Wii gaming system is its controller, called a Wii Remote. The wireless device functions much like a remote control, but has motion detecting technology that allows players to interact with the Wii games using motions.

  • We Hack Wii / USB Loader
Don't upgrade to Wii Firmware 4.2! Instead of updating your Wii firmware, you can just use DOP-Mii to update specific channels such as the Nintendo Channel or Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu. This will allow you to shop with the latest Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu. However, the guide below DOES work if you are on 4.2 and want to hack your Wii. Don't use IOS60-Patcher for launching games from SD! Instead use DOP-Mii to re-install IOS60 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.0 or 4.1) or IOS70 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.2) with the signature hash check (trucha bug). Also, if you are using Preloader and you "dop" IOS60 or IOS70, remember to reinstall Preloader after "doping"; otherwise, you won't be able to load the System Menu. Instead, boot HBC through Preloader to reinstall it. What is USB Loader? USB Loader is an application for the Nintendo Wii which allows you to to install and load your backup ISO game files to/from a USB storage device. It also allows you to create such backups straight from the original DVD, or you can put ISO files which you have backed up to your computer onto your USB drive and load them from there. This guide will prepare your Wii to use USB Loader GX , which will launch both the USB drive and burned DVD-R discs. What if I just want homebrew? If you don't want to launch backup games and just want to enjoy the world of homebrew, homemade games and applications for the Wii, then you only need to follow steps 2 through 4; it couldn't be simpler.

The history of Nintendo: the company, consoles and games Introduction A handful of the most popular video games from Mario to The Legend of Zelda, and video game consoles from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Nintendo Switch, were all created and developed by the same company. That company is Nintendo. From its beginning, Nintendo was not a video gaming company. Since the company’s first launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, to the present day of the latest release of the Nintendo Switch from 2017, they have sold over 5 billion video games and over 779 million hardware units globally, according to Nintendo UK (Nintendo UK). As Nintendo continues to release new video games and consoles, they have become one of the top gaming companies, competing alongside Sony and Microsoft.

  • Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: Consuming the Olympics Through Video Gaming
Fred Mason Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: Consuming the Olympics through Video Gaming Fred Mason University of New Brunswick, Canada Dating back to 2008, the series is in its 4th installment, with two summer and two winter versions, all officially licensed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The first three games of the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series were produced by Sega for the Nintendo Wii and handheld devices, and the most recent (2014) by Nintendo for the Wii U platform. The games in this series bring together popular characters from the Mario and Sonic franchises to compete in Olympic events, such as track and field and alpine skiing, in facilities that look like the real Olympic venues of the time, or “dream events” set in worlds from Mario or Sonic games. The Wii platform also enables game players to use their “Mii’s,” customizable characters that players construct to look like their real- world selves. These features encourage the association of enjoyment and positive affect, and a certain amount of self-identification, with the Olympic Games. One stream of in-game rewards that players can achieve offers information on the history and organization of the Games, and on different Olym- pic sports. This can be seen as a form of “Olympic education,” where both positive aspects and criti- cism as a form of indoctrination can be applied. Other in-game rewards encourage players to “shop” with stars earned or scratch cards. This video game series could be taken as marketing the Olympic brand with enjoyable and popular video game characters.
