    sloka 2010 Svetovno prvenstvo v kajak kanu slalomu Ljubljana 7. – 12.9. 2010 a.si lok w.s ww POKROVITELJI MEDIJSKI POKROVITELJI Spoštovani udeleženci in obiskovalci svetovnega prvenstva v slalomu na divjih vodah! ast se je družiti z najboljšimi. Najboljšimi kajakaši in kanuisti, ki prihajate s celega sveta. Ni Čjih večjih mojstrov divje vode, kakor ste vi. Ravno zato smo na Kajakaški zvezi Slovenije še kako ponosni, da že v tretje gostimo najboljše krotilce brzic na svetu. Najboljši tekmovalci si zaslužijo tudi najboljše gledalce in ti so v Tacnu stalnica. Navijaške sku- pine, ki jih v našem športu odlikujeta športno obnašanje in medsebojno prijateljstvo, so tacenski ponos, ki predstavljajo za vsakega izmed tekmovalcev, ki tekmujejo na prvenstvu, nepozabno izkušnjo. Najboljši tekmovalci si zaslužijo tudi najboljšo organizacijo. Za to smo poskrbeli skupaj z neumornimi in vedno pripravljenimi prostovoljci, ki jim gre največja zahvala. Žal nam trenutna situacija ni dovoljevala večjih posegov in investicij, to ostaja naš dolg in upamo, da bomo lahko to uredili v naslednjih letih. A vendar upam, da smo pripravili svetovno prvenstvo, ki bo ostalo v lepem spominu vsem ude- ležencem. Nepozabno po dobrem in sproščenem vzdušju, nepozabno zaradi izkazane gosto- ljubnosti in nepozabno po novih prijateljstvih, ki bodo tu sklenjena in bodo trajala še dolgo po zaključku prvenstva v Ljubljani. Daljnega leta 1955 so se na progi v Tacnu prvič zbrali najboljši kajakaši in kanuisti. Prijateljstvo je vodilo, zaradi katerega bo v naslednjih dneh kar nekaj udeležencev prvega svetovnega prvenstva ponovno prišlo v Tacen. Leta 1991 je kajakaše pričakal Tacen v modernejši podobi. Tekmovanja, ki jih je z užitkom sloka 2010 Svetovno prvenstvo v kajak kanu slalomu spremljalo več tisoč ljudi, so bila - naj povem kot zanimivost - zadnja v takratni državi Jugoslaviji.

Endicott STRIVE TOGETHER, THRIVE TOGETHER The Story of JON LUGBILL and DAVID HEARN This chapter discusses the paddling careers of Jon Lugbill and David Hearn, the top C1s in the World for the last several years. I feel it is appropriate to talk about them together for a variety of reasons. First, "Davey" and "Kid" as friends call them, are great rivals -- and great friends. Secondly, they approached canoe slalom from two opposite perspectives. Jon always emphasized great speed and power, particularly in accelerating the boat after a turn. Davey concentrated on endurance and cleanliness. As time went on, however, each began to do more of what the other had emphasized. This was especially true after 1979. The final reason for treating them both in the same chapter is because I feel the American C1s, as symbolized by Jon and Davey, have become one of the greatest driving forces in whitewater canoeing today, and I don't believe either could have accomplished this without the other pushing him. Space does not permit giving them the attention I would like to, but suffice it to say that, had it not been for Jon and Davey, I would have been writing about them! The rivalry between Jon and Davey, then, should be regarded as symbolic of the greater rivalry -- and friendship -- among all five C1s.

    2015 ICF CANOE SLALOM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT PREVIEWS Women’s K1 16 September - Heats 19 September - Semifinals / Finals - Jessica Fox (AUS) hopes to retain her 2014 world title and become the third woman to win the K1 at back-to-back world championships. - The only women who have won successive world titles in the K1 are Ludmilla Polesna (TCH) in 1961- 1963 and in 1967-1969 and Corinna Kuhnle (AUT) in 2010-2011. - Kuhnle can become the second woman to win at least three K1 world titles after Polesna (4 titles). Stepanka Hilgertová (CZE) can also achieve this feat as she was victorious in 1999 and 2003. - Kuhnle can give Austria its sixth gold medal in this event at the world championships, most of all countries if East Germany, West Germany and Germany are calculated separately as well as Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia. - Hilgertová can equal Polesna on a record five total medals at the world championships in this event. She last claimed a medal in 2007, finishing third. - Reigning European champion Maialen Chourraut (ESP) can give Spain its first gold medal in this event. Spain have won one silver medal (2009, Chourraut) and one bronze medal (2011, Chourraut) in women’s K1 at the world championships. - No woman has yet won the world title as well as the European title in the same year in the K1. - Emilie Fer (FRA) can win her second world title as reigning Olympic champion as she won the world title in 2013. Endicott Cl TECHNIQUE General Remarks This chapter is based on the gate techniques of Jon Lugbill, Davey Hearn, Bob Robison, and Kent Ford, who, along with Ron Lugbill, have dominated the C1 class for the last several years. Ron Lugbill was in France when I wrote this book and thus I could not consult him. Since the late 1970's, these athletes have completely revolutionized Cl, each year coming closer and closer to the K1 times in the World Championships. Certainly a very big part of this revolution was the rules change in 1973 which permitted a canoe to have ends which were lower than the middle of the boat. That, and the 1971 change narrowing C1s from 80 centimeters to 70, has done a great deal to speed up the class. But in the middle 1970s, the top C1 paddlers were holdovers from the earlier years, who were brought up on the bigger boats and who did not really appreciate what could be done with the new ones. With sleeker craft, the American C1s began to compare themselves to K1s, always looking to beat them in races. If I had to describe the key characteristic of the top C1s today in one word, it would be "pivot". The concept of the pivot turn -- leaning back and upstream to catch the edge of the boat and thus shorten the waterline -- is found time and time again in the description of the C1 techniques which are to follow in this chapter.
