Many thanks to the various contributors, and please note that as always any members who wish to contribute are very welcome to do so. I await further contributions in the ‘My Favourite Yorkshire Match’ series. I have said before that remarks here relating to events on the field run the risk of being out of date by the time the final newsletter arrives on door steps. I will therefore go no further than cautiously suggesting that so far (and this is writing in the immediate aftermath of the superb win against Surrey), in the County Championship at least, there has been some progress.

  • ECB Yorkshire South Premier League Newsletter
ECB Yorkshire South Premier League www.yspl.co.uk Newsletter – 6 July 2017 Last weekend On Saturday, the top-of-the table game resulted in a 29-run win for Sheffield Collegiate at Whitley Hall; the visitors leap-frogging their opponents to move six points clear at the top of the table. Man-of-the-match Azeem Rafiq proved the difference between the sides, rescuing the visitors from 24-3 with a fine 103, and then taking 3-45 in 15 overs to put the brake on the home side’s response. After ending Neil Longhurst’s resistance, Josh Varley completed the job for the visitors with 5-37. Wakefield Thornes’ crushing win over Wickersley left them just 16 points behind the leaders and these three look destined to fight it out for the title. Hallam took advantage of Treeton’s slip-up at home to Cleethorpes to move up to fourth with a comfortable win over Sheffield & Phoenix; whilst Barnsley slipped into the bottom two after losing out to Appleby Frodingham in a very tight finish at Brumby Hall. On Sunday, the Rudgate Brewery trophy brought disappointment for Sheffield Collegiate and Treeton, who both lost out against Yorkshire League North opposition. Our sole representative in the semi-finals, and the first YSPL side to reach that stage, will be Wickersley, who beat Appleby Frodingham in a low-scoring game at Brumby Hall. Saturday Barnsley Woolley Miners v Appleby Frodingham Barnsley WM 143 (46.1 overs) David Hunt 37, Ben Bramley 3-29 Appleby Frodingham 144-9 (46.2) Alex Grimes 64*, Dan Waldron 5-32, Harpreet Singh Bhatia 3-48 Appleby Frodingham (12pts)

YORKSHIRE CRICKET BOARD ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS FEBRUARY 2015 1 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE YORKSHIRE CRICKET BOARD, 2014 Executive Summary 2014 will no doubt go down in the annals of history as the year of major change in Yorkshire Cricket and in particular for the Yorkshire Cricket Board. Ian Chappell (Chief Executive) retired on 31st March 2014 after a long and very distinguished service of 30 years for the Yorkshire Cricket Association and of course the Yorkshire Cricket Board. Tributes and presentations have been presented to Ian who also won the Lifetime Achievers Award at the YCB OSCAs for 2014. Further tributes will be made in the handbook. Ian’s departure has obviously left a void and four people have now picked up the work Ian had religiously done for many years. Andrew Watson has now become Executive Director of YCB. The YCB now have 8 Directors and will oversee the areas of work. Mark Arthur (YCCC CEO), Chris West (NYSD League), Jane Hildreth and Umar Rafiq have joined the existing directors, Philip Radcliffe (Chair), Albert Pattison (Vice Chair), Ian Cotterhill and Andrew Watson (Executive Director). Yorkshire Cricket During the last year Mark Arthur, David Gent (Chair of the YCF) and Andrew Watson have worked together so successfully to enable open dialogue, and mutual trust, that we have established “Yorkshire Cricket”. By starting to share human resources and back-office work, joint services and programmes are evolving through the very close day-to-day working relationship the Board has with the County Club and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation at all levels.

Our tributes to Henry Leeke, Queen Elizabeth I and other founders included a fine performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the formation of the 450 Parent Choir, a splendid Easter Anniversary Concert, the special Commemoration Service in Southwark Cathedral, and culminated with the fascinating exhibition, including Dr Carrington’s canes which stirred a few memories! The year also concluded with the best public examination results in the school’s history at A level, AS level and GCSE, and a running total of nearly 90 Oxbridge successes over the last 3 years. It was pleasing, if not surprising, that we were ranked as the country’s No. 1 State school with mixed 6th Form at Advanced level, and the 2nd best Boys’ school at GCSE, by The Times and The Telegraph newspaper league tables.
