While Islam celebrates beauty, it also places a very important value on personal modesty for both men and women. For a Muslim, being mindful of personal modesty plays a vital role in having mercy towards yourself, since modesty and faith are so intertwined. In American society, interaction between males and females often evolves from cooties to teasing to just plain confusion. From interactions at school or at work to interactions between family members or during courtship, modesty can sometimes be difficult to traverse. How do American Muslims navigate varying cultural norms with their religious convictions? In this session, Imam Kaiser and Shaykha Nusba will clear up misconceptions regarding conversation and interaction, sharing some Islamic guidance on how Muslims are taught to interact respectfully.

Taking care of our mental state is a form of mercy upon ourselves. Unfortunately, some religious circles may view mental health issues from a negative perspective, that the illness may be self-inflicted due to a lack of a firm relationship with God. However, nothing could be further from the truth! To learn more about how we can embrace and overcome our obstacles, join us as we present a panel of professionals who will work to overcome the stigma and answer any questions you may have with issues related to mental health.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is described in the Quran as a "mercy sent to the worlds" (Quran 21:107) whose reputation God has raised (Quran 94:4) for having high moral character (Quran 69:4). Unfortunately, in popular culture today, he's not necessarily known by the same attributes. In this session, we will explore some of the historical facts surrounding his life which highlight his prophetic mission of mercy and the impact he had on his society. Come reflect with us on how his story can inspire us to make positive changes in our own society today.
