As part of the preparations for the 2015 General Elections, the Commission has demonstrated its commitment to informing stakeholders and the general public through a range of activities, and engagements with different strata of society with the aim of fostering confidence and participation in the continuing effort to build an enduring democratic culture. To increase eligible citizens’ participation in exercising their franchise, polling units within, or very close to the premises of politicians, traditional rulers, religious bodies, state and local authorities, private properties, etc., as well as in open spaces, are relocated to public buildings, preferably public schools. Thus, the publication of the 2015 Polling Unit Directory (updated January 2015) by the Commission is another step towards providing valid information to the stakeholders and the public alike. The Directory lists the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of each State or Area Councils (ACs) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Registration Areas (RAs) of States or Wards of the FCT, as well as polling units contained therein. This Directory wiII not only help to address the Polling Unit information needs of political parties, developmental partners, Civil Society Organizations, Ministries, Departments, Agencies, the Press and other Stakeholders, but also serve as a reference document for research and information. This publication is also designed to help electoral officials irrespective of where they are deployed to effectively perform their duties. I hope that the Directory will also help to influence and educate election officials in the administration of elections in the country. Prof. Attahiru M. The decision by the Commission was taken in its efforts to further ensure transparency in the electoral process and provide a level playing field for free and fair elections that are credible and acceptable to all. The Delimitation Division of the Electoral Operations Department has worked very hard, together with the Electoral Operations Departments of each of the thirty-six (36) States and the Federal Capital Territory, to significantly improve the accuracy of this Directory. The Commission would like to express its profound gratitude to the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as well as the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia for providing technical assistance, through the provision of a specialist in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Data Management, Mr. Archie A.A. Delaney, Sr., who played a major role in the successful completion of this project. The fact that the Directory was generated from the Delimitation Database being constructed is very significant and signals a paradigm shift in the way the Commission undertakes its major activities. ABSTRACT Studies were carried out between June through December, 2007 to evaluate the quality of rural water supply for drinking in Ebonyi South Zone of Ebonyi State, Nigeria. The rural communities of Ekoli Edda and Ozizza in Afikpo South L.G.A and parts of Okposi in Ohaozara L.G.A depend solely on spring water for their domestic needs. Samples from seven spring water sources in these areas were analyzed for some physico-chemical and microbial parameters by standard methods. Concentrations of some heavy metals; Cr, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, Ni and Zn were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The results of the chemical analysis compared favourably with the WHO standard for drinking water, except for the relatively high concentration of iron in samples SE 5 (0.79 mg/L) and SE 6 (0.58 mg/L), and the exceedingly high phosphate concentrations, ranging from 0.25 - 1.6mg/L in all the samples as against the WHO permissible limit of 0.1mg/L. The bacteriological analyses however revealed about 40% total coliform bacteria contamination, varying between 0 - 4 MPN/100 ml of water in five out of the seven samples tested.

The study identified most of all the known rivers in Imo State and provided information like relief, topography and other geographical features of the major rivers which are crucial to aid water management for a sustainable water infrastructure in the communities of the watershed. The rivers and lakes are classified into five watersheds (river basins) such as Okigwe watershed, Mbaise / Mbano watershed, Orlu watershed, Oguta watershed and finally, Owerri watershed. The knowledge of the river basins in Imo State will help analyze the problems involved in water resources allocation and to provide guidance for the planning and management of water resources in the state for sustainable development. Mgbanya3 Received 8 March 2019, Revised 18 May 2019, Accepted 24 June 2019, Published online 30 June 2019 Abstract The study examined the socio-economic factors influencing poverty among rural households in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, Nigeria. The study adopted multistage random and purposive sampling techniques to select 120 household heads. Primary data used for the study were collected using structured questionnaire. The data were analysed with the aid of means, percentage and frequency count and OLS multiple regression model. The result indicated that the households spent an average of N31,250 monthly to take care of their families and other essential personal needs. The result of the socio-economic characteristics showed that majority (53.3) of the respondents were females. The mean age was 36 years with majority (64.2%) married while an average of 6 persons per household was recorded. The predominant occupations were farming (36.0%) and civil service (35.8%). The households cultivated a mean farm size of 3.8 hectares, the mean monthly income was N19,720 while their average monthly expenditure amounted to N31,250. Moreover, 73.3% of the respondents belonged to one social organization or the other with over 90.0% of them having acquired various forms of formal education.

Specifically the study aimed at identifying vitality foods that are available, accessible and utilized by low income household in state. Descriptive survey design was used for the study. The population of the study is 2,173,501 households and the sample size is 400 households. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire and interview. The research questions were answered on individual item basis using mean, frequency and standard deviation, t-test was used to test the hypothesis. The findings revealed among other things that vitality foods are not always available in the state; they are not always accessible and therefore not always utilized by the low income households in the state. This is contrary to US Department of Agriculture Food Guide Pyramid that children should consume three servings from the vitality foods each day to remain healthy. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made including (1) Nutrition education at the household level should be taught by Home Economics Extension workers to family members through workshops/seminars as this will encourage low income households on ways of reducing food insecurity during off seasons (2) Entrepreneurship education should be introduced into the school curriculum from primary to university levels of education to empower low income households financially among others.
