    March 4, 2020 Tallinn, Estonia ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020, Day One Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) and Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov (RUS) took the lead in the Junior Men’s and Junior Pairs Short Programs as the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020 opened in Tallinn, Estonia, on Wednesday. Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) clinches lead in Junior Men’s Short Program Youth Olympic Games Champion Yuma Kagiyama of Japan clinched a narrow lead over Russia’s Andrei Mozalev in the Junior Men’s Short Program on Wednesday. Andrew Torgashev (USA) came in third. Skating to Piano Concerto “Fate” by Akira Senju, Kagiyama landed a triple Axel, triple loop, triple Lutz-triple toe combination and picked up a level four for his spins. The Four Continents bronze medalist scored 85.82 points. “I was very relaxed today,” he said. “I was little bit concerned about my triple Axel, but my practice has been going quite well so I was able to do it with confidence. “As for the Lutz-toe combination, it was a bit shaky on the first jump, but I was able to recompose myself after the first jump. “This is my last short program of the season, so I was very happy to do a good performance. Anything can happen in the free program, I just need to continue to focus.” Mozalev’s performance to “I’ll Never Forget You” from the Russian rock opera “Juno and Avos” featured a triple loop, triple Axel and triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination as well as level-four spins and footwork.

Performing to “Bonnie and Clyde”, Shanaeva/Naryzhnyy put out a dynamic dance that was highlighted by fast twizzles, precise steps and a rotational lift. The ISU Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalists picked up a level four for the Tea Time Foxtrot Pattern Dance, the twizzles and the lift to achieve a new personal best of 70.03 points. “We are very pleased with our performance and with the progress we’ve made since our last competitions,,” Shanaeva said. “We wanted to show the maximum as most likely there won’t be any other competitions this season.” Kazakova/Reviya’s performance to “Beautiful the Carole King” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me” featured a level-four stationary lift, level-four twizzles and a level-four Tea Time Foxtrot Pattern.     March 2, 2020 Tallinn, Estonia World’s best young skaters to compete in Tallinn ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020 Preview The World’s next generation of Figure Skaters will find out who is the best of the best at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2020 in Tallinn, Estonia (March 2 - 8). Tallinn has hosted the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships once before in 2015, and has hosted the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in 2010 as well as the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. 174 skaters from 43 ISU members have been entered for the Championships: 36 Men, 48 Ladies, 16 Pair Skating couples and 29 Ice Dance couples. All skaters compete in the Short Program/Rhythm Dance and the top 24 Single Skaters, top 16 Pairs and top 20 Ice Dance teams proceed to the Free Skating/Free Dance. Overview of the top contenders The Junior Men’s event promises to be very exciting with a deep field of strong competitors. Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) will debut at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships, but earlier this year he won the Youth Olympic Games and took bronze at the recent ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, where he achieved a season’s best of 270.61 points. Japan has another medal hope in ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final Champion Shun Sato (season’s best 255.11). 2019 ISU World Junior Figure Skating bronze medalist Daniel Grassl (ITA) is aiming at the podium again (season’s best 244.88).
