This document will guide you though backing up an entire drive or partition, to another drive or partition in Windows XP.
Click START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > BACKUP
Click NEXT to the screen below :
Leave the next screen selection on “Back up files and Settings” and click NEXT

On the next screen, select “let me Choose what to backup” and click NEXT
The next screen is where you will choose what drive you will backup. In this event, we will backup the entire D: drive to the C: Drive in this case
So Expand the MY COMPUTER branch by clicking on the plus (+) then TICK the box next to the D: Drive as shown below, then click NEXT :
On the next screen is where you will specify the destination of the backup
Note: this cannot be the same drive as the drive you are backing up.
2 www.Day-Zyne.com So to select the C: Drive, Click on the BROWSE button >
You will then be prompted to put a disk in to the floppy drive, ignore this and click CANCEL to open up further options.
This will open up a SAVE AS dialog box, use the SAVE IN Dropdown box to select the C: Drive, then give the backup a name in the FILE NAME box –
Note: if another backup exists on this drive, you will be able to highlight it and overwrite it if you wish simply by clicking on it.
Once the backup file has been given a name, click SAVE to take you back to the previous dialog box
3 www.Day-Zyne.com Here, simply click NEXT, leaving the job name at its default “Backup”
Once on the next screen, click on the ADVANCED button:
Now from the “Select the type of backup” drop down box, select COPY then Click NEXT
Leave all options UNTICKED on the next screen and click NEXT

On the next screen, select REPLACE THE EXISTING BACKUPS, and then click NEXT
And on the last screen, leave at the default selection or NOW and click NEXT
Then on the final screen, click FINISH to kick off the backup.
Then NTBackup will scan all your files / drive to see how much data it has to backup, so it will then be able to estimate how long the process will take: 5 www.Day-Zyne.com
Then the status of the backup can be seen like so :
Once complete, your backup file will be located on the C: Drive where you pointed it to.
From there, backup on to CD, DVD or another computer on your network.
Job done!
Simple and fast, and NTBackup does not have to be used just for backing up entire drives, you can also select individual files or folders of your choice.
