As such, sport and physical activity are an integral part of the educational program at Emmanuel Anglican College. The College believes that the sporting program is a vital part of a balanced educational program. It provides students with a range of experiences and opportunities that are unique in the educational setting and as such we expect every student to participate in these activities. For students, we hope that sport at EAC will offer constructive and positive pathways, where the willingness to be actively involved is just as important as the final results. At the same time, we are striving for excellence and would like to see every student maximise their physical potential and experience, across a range of different sports. This handbook has been designed to provide parents and students with the key sporting information for the College. Aims and Objectives As a College, our aim is to provide a balanced program for students that involves regular, constructive and enjoyable sporting opportunities. Participation in sport is compulsory for all students. Primary Weekly Sport Commencing in their first years of school, right though primary school our students develop fundamental skills in team and individual sports. The College employs professional sports development coach Mr Randall Evans to run structured programs in: Basketball, Football, Netball, Touch Football, Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Secondary Weekly Sport (Year 7 to 10) Secondary Sport provides students with the opportunity to enjoy a variety of sports and recreation based physical activities each week. Secondary Sport is conducted on Friday afternoons in Periods 5 and 6. Sport choices may include: Recreation Sports • Tennis • Skateboarding • Field Sports • Martial Arts • Gym classes • Ten Pin Bowling • Golf • Cross Fit • Walking • Jui Jitsu • Futsal • Fishing • Lawn Bowls • Basketball Representative Sports • Mountain Biking • Rugby 7’s • Touch Football • Soccer • Basketball • Netball • Cricket P a g e | 4 Dress Requirements / Uniform Students are required to wear correct sport uniform when participating in all sporting activities. For representative sports teams, students will be provided with a team uniform appropriate to the sport. The College Sport Uniform is available at the School Locker. P a g e | 5 COLLEGE INTERHOUSE SPORT COMPETITION House Structure All students and staff at the College are allocated to one of the four houses: Brockington, Purcival, Smith, Walker. Each year students from Year 2 to Year 12 represent their houses at the three major sports carnivals; Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. The winning houses are presented with a shield for each competition. Participation in the College carnivals is compulsory for all students from Year 2 to Year 12. Swimming and Athletics Carnivals are full school days and therefore students will not be permitted to leave the carnivals early. Year 3 to 6 students compete in the House Cup Challenge for key team sports including: basketball, touch football, netball and soccer. P a g e | 6 PROFESSIONAL COACHING PROGRAM EAC Sports Coaching and Development Emmanuel Anglican College is offers a professional coaching and development program for all our key competitive sports. We are proud to have students participating in sport from a beginner level up to elite national level athletes. Professional Sporting Coaches to help your child be their best EAC prides itself on providing a team of specialist sports coaches for each of our key sports. These coaches prepare students for their school and inter school carnivals and representative sport tournaments. P a g e | 7 REPRESENTATIVE SPORT EAC students have the opportunity to participate in representative school sport pathway from a local level to a national level. With current NSW and Australian Champions and medallists in Hockey, Swimming, Athletics, Football (Soccer) and Mountain biking at the school, we are proud to share our athletes’ success and guide them in their sporting journey. Representative Pathway North Coast Independent Schools Sports Association (NCIS) EAC is part of the North Coast Independent Schools Association (NCIS). NCIS comprises the following 14 schools: ▪ Bishop Druitt College, Coffs Harbour ▪ Kempsey Adventist School ▪ Blue Hills College, Goonellabah ▪ Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, ▪ Byron Community Primary School, Terranora Byron Bay ▪ Sathya Sai School, Murwillumbah ▪ Cape Byron Rudolph Steiner School, ▪ The Living School Byron Bay ▪ Tuntable Falls Community School ▪ Clarence Valley Anglican School, ▪ The Armidale School, Armidale Grafton ▪ Tweed Valley Adventist School, ▪ Emmanuel Anglican College, Ballina Murwillumbah ▪ Hare Krishna School, Eungella P a g e | 8 NCIS Sports EAC students have the opportunity to represent the College at NCIS competitions in a variety of sports each year including: ▪ Swimming, Year 2 to Year 12 ▪ Tennis, Year 5 to Year 12 ▪ Cross Country, Year 2 to Year 12 ▪ Basketball, Year 5 to Year 12 ▪ Athletics, Year 2 to Year 12 ▪ Hockey, Year 5 to Year 12 ▪ Football (Soccer), Year 5 to Year 12 ▪ Surfing Year 7 to 12 ▪ Touch Football, Year 5 to Year 12 ▪ Rugby 7’s Year 5 to 12 ▪ Netball, Year 5 to Year 12 Other Interschool Sport Events In addition to NCIS sports the College also competes in a variety of other competitions: • Rugby 7’s Tournaments • Tobias Marquet Cup (EAC vs • Mountain Biking Lindisfarne) in various sports including • NSW Netball Cup Secondary Cricket, Touch, Netball, • Bill Turner Football (Soccer) Football (soccer), Rugby 7’s • NSW CIS Cup Football • School Surf lifesaving Challenge Team Selections and Training Team Selection Trials Selection of students for events and teams is conducted on a professional basis by experienced staff and coaches. Students are selected based on merit, attitude and commitment. We ask all parents to support our decisions with regard to team selections. Students and parents are notified of upcoming sport selection trials via email and student notices. Training Sessions Training sessions are held for all representative teams prior to competitions. For team sports training sessions are compulsory for all students selected. Failure to attend training sessions except in the event of illness may result in students being dropped from the team. Individual Sports Selection Trials Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics and Tennis teams are selected based on the results of the school championships events for each sport. P a g e | 9 NSW Combined Independent Schools Sporting Competitions (NSW CIS). Students selected in NCIS teams are eligible to compete at the NSW Combined Independent Schools Sporting Competitions (NSW CIS). NSW CIS operates the following sports each year: • AFL • Diving • Softball • Athletics • Football (Soccer) • Swimming • Baseball • Golf • Tennis • Basketball • Hockey • Touch Football • Canoeing • Rugby League • Triathlon • Cricket • Rugby Union • Volleyball • Cross Country • Sailing • Water Polo Where EAC or NCIS does not compete or select a team for a sport, nominations of eligible individual students can be made. Nomination dates and further details can be found on the NSW CIS Sport Website. NSW All Schools Students selected in NSW CIS teams are able to compete in the NSW All Schools Championships. NSW All Schools Athletics and NSW All Schools Triathlon events are a direct nomination.
