Destroy My Jeep ACCC New Car Retailing Industry Market Study. New car retailing industry market study. My name is Ashton Wood and I run the Destroy My Jeep campaign. I started this campaign as a warning-shot to Fiat Chrysler Australia that I would not put up with a $50,000 lemon vehicle. This campaign ended with the total destruction of the vehicle at an event that was attended by hundreds of Queenslanders and streamed on-line to millions of people around the world. Fast-forward 2 years and I have been involved in three viral campaigns which each received worldwide attention. I have been joined by others who have experienced similar concerns and we have spoken in parliament, run petitions and pressured the ACCC to investigate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia (details of this investigation are at the end of this document). We have been approached by countless consumers who are being misled on their consumer rights, so with no support offered through the formal channels, we have given guidance, contacted the media and given consumers a voice through direct coverage on the Destroy My Jeep Facebook page which has resulted in over $900,000 of refunds to-date. While we are proud of our achievements, we are very concerned that everyday consumers such as ourselves have to take these matters into our own hands. We need an overhaul of the Australian Consumer Law and we need the ACCC to support the consumers who are left out in the cold when it comes to consumer protection. (HCIL) is a subsidiary of the Honda of Japan for the production, marketing and export of passenger cars in India. Formerly known as Honda Siel Cars India Ltd, it began operations in December 1995 as a joint venture between Honda Motor Company and Usha International of Siddharth Shriram Group. In August, 2012, Honda bought out Usha International's entire 3.16 percent stake for 1.8 billion in the joint venture. The company officially changed its name to Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) and became a 100% subsidiary of Honda. It operates production facilities at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and at Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. The company's total investment in its production facilities in India as of 2010 was over 16.2 billion. Contents Facilities HCIL's first manufacturing unit at Greater Noida commenced operations in 1997. Setup at an initial investment of over 4.5 billion, the plant is spread over 150 acres (0.61 km2). The initial capacity of the plant was 30,000 cars per annum, which was thereafter increased to 50,000 cars on a two-shift basis. The capacity has further been enhanced to 100,000 units annually as of 2008. This expansion led to an increase in the covered area in the plant from 107,000 m² to over 130,000 m². -

Media Release For immediate use 13 April 2015 Automotive Industry takes lead to support apprenticeship education with launch of multimillion dollar donations This evening VACC will launch a multimillion dollar donation program designed to support vocational trainers that deliver quality automotive training that meets industry needs. VACC with the support of a diverse group of vehicle manufacturers has developed the Automotive Industry Donation Program of parts, components and vehicles to assist training organisations that meet industry standards. The Program is designed to support the training of apprentices and school based VET students on the latest of technology, which is costly and difficult for trainers to secure. “The Automotive Industry Donation Program is a great example of an industry led initiative for a community outcome,” VACC Executive Director, Geoff Gwilym, said. “Stakeholders have come together to address a pressing need and the spirit of cooperation has been outstanding. Our motivation is to ensure automotive training is of the highest order and that Australia’s vehicles are as safe as possible,” Mr Gwilym said. The Program aims to assist in attracting and training more technicians, of which Registered Training Organisations and secondary schools are central to the automotive technical training resource equation. The fast pace of change in the automotive industry requires a consistent renewal of training resources in learning institutions. To date, responsibility has fallen on the places of learning which is unsustainable and creates pockets of inconsistency when cost of investment in new technology is high. “Vehicle manufacturers and VACC which represents more than 5,000 automotive businesses recognise the need to support our quality trainers with access to quality learning resources, this means having our future technicians learn their trade with current vehicle componentry and vehicles. -
