STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE UPCOMING SPECIAL COLLECTION: The Church in Latin America 8/1/21

We have ALMOST made our goal! We have only $17,663.71 left to raise for this year’s Appeal. Let’s show our appreciation to Bishop Brennan for all our Diocese has done for us and get to 100%!

Imagine what we could do if everyone responded? We can accomplish our goal if, after prayerful consideration, everyone gives what they can. Any amount raised over our goal will be returned to our parish to be used for our particular needs. Envelopes to donate to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal can be found at each of the church exits. You may take one with you and either mail it directly to the Diocese or bring it back and drop it in the collection plate. You can also donate online using the following link: https:// columbuscatholicgiving.org/make-a-gift-now.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PARISH NEWS

SANCTUARY CONSTRUCTION BEGINS 7/26 Renovations of our parish sanctuary flooring will begin this week. Daily Masses will be temporarily relocated to the Adoration Chapel for the duration of construction. Daily Mass-goers will still enter through the main church to access the Adoration Chapel. Weekend Masses will continue to be held in the main church, but we will be using a temporary altar at the foot of the sanctuary stairs. We are blessed by and excited for this project which will further enhance the beauty and sanctity of our worship space. Thank you in advance for your patience during construction.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM FATHER DAVE Dear Parishioners, As you may know, there is an ongoing scam affecting our parish and our parishioners. It is also affecting many other Catholic parishes, ministry groups, and protestant churches. It involves emails and sometimes texts which appear to come from the pastor or another well-known parish or church leader, asking the parishioner to send gift cards for the pastor/leader to use in helping other people. These emails/texts ask the parishioner to do this as soon as possible, since the pastor/leader is occupied. PLEASE know, I WILL NOT EVER contact you by email or text and ask you to send me gift cards electronically, nor will anyone else from our staff. This is an ongoing scam. PLEASE do not ever respond to one of these emails or texts. There are people on the other side of these emails/texts who will dialogue with you, back and forth, to try to convince you to send them gift cards, or electronically wire money to them. While the email might appear to be coming from me, always with a closer look at the email address, you will notice that it is not actually my email address, but slight variations of my email. If ever you are contacted by someone that pretends to be me, and you don’t know if it is me, please pick up the phone and call the parish office and read the email or text to the parish office staff. They will let you know that this is not me. Unfortunately, talking with other priests and pastors in our area, and hearing from the Chancery Office, we have discovered this is happening to parishes and churches throughout the country. Please exercise caution and always contact the parish office, if ever you are in doubt about a communication from me or the parish, especially if they are asking you to send them gift cards or wire them money electronically. If you have any questions, please contact me or another staff member at the parish office: 740.345.9874. Thank you for all you do in service of His church, Fr. Dave

17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, JULY 25, 2021 REAL PRESENCE, REAL FUTURE REFLECTIONS: WHY BOTHER? Deacon Jeff Carpenter, St. Bernadette, Lancaster: We have all felt like the apostles in the Gospel today. We see hunger, poverty, sickness, disaster, or other human suffering, but when we look at our resources, we feel we have so little to offer. We think, “Why bother?” Our connection to Jesus in the Real Presence gives us the courage to be like the apostles, offering what we can and trusting in the Lord to bring forth fruit. With a strong connection to Jesus through the regular reception of His presence in the Eucharist, we are always aware that we are working with and for Him in all we do. To read more about how we are growing together in the life of faith and discipleship in the Diocese of Columbus, visit www.RealPresenceRealFuture.org.

REAL PRESENCE, REAL FUTURE - SUMMER Q&A SESSIONS Join the Catholic Leadership Institute and Diocesan leaders to learn more about the Real Presence, Real Future initiative at Information Sessions throughout the summer. Each session will be similar, consisting of an overview of the Real Presence, Real Future initiative, and the opportunity for your questions and comments. We want to hear from you! What are you hearing about RPRF? What is it? Why are we doing this? Virtual Sessions from 7-8:30pm – Wednesday, 7/28, Wednesday, 8/4, and Wednesday, 8/11 Registration is required for each session, so sign up today at www.RealPresenceRealFuture.org.

ST. FRANCIS DE SALES ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH | JULY 25, 2021 PARISH NEWS BECOMING CATHOLIC – RCIA - WHAT IS A SPONSOR? Sponsors encourage and support an individual candidate along their journey. The impact of a sponsor can be deep and lasting as they assist the candidate not only during the RCIA process but afterwards. Sponsors are required to attend the Rite of Acceptance, the Rite of Election, and the Easter Vigil (or Mass of Initiation) with their candidate. At St. Francis, the sponsors chosen are generally active parishioners so that they can help their candidates integrate into the parish by attending Mass with them, inviting them to events and introducing them to other parishioners. Sponsors are welcome to attend the RCIA class sessions along with their candidate; however, this is not required since a sponsor's most important work actually takes place outside the class sessions.
