Abu Dhabi City was developed in the 1970’s for a planned population of c.600,000. The island population now exceeds c.1.6M and is projected to grow to c3M by 2030. City faces major challenges arising from congestion, safety of all road users, land use demands, parking, accessibility and environmental considerations. UAE Government and Department of Municipal Affairs The Department of Municipal Affairs has the objective of enhancing the well being of the residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. We have been able to and continue to promote a wider road safety agenda within the region and will continue to make every effort to collaborate at both a governmental, United Nations agencies and non-governmental level. On our own, we are good, together we are better Our Pledge The Department of Municipal Affairs and its Municipalities are fully committed to the belief that: Death or injury should not be the price of mobility. Conclusion We are making progress. There has been change, but we still have a long way to go. It’s a simple fact that road traffic injuries cannot be completely prevented, but if all of work together we can reduce them.
