BLACK POWDER SURVEY

METALIC AND MUZZLE-LOADING SPORT- ING ARMS

The Black Powder Committee of the DMSC is currently conducting a survey to determine the total number of members that are interested in becoming part of the Black Powder Fraternity.

This discipline will include the use of flint and percussion as well as metallic cartridge rifles, pistols and shotguns from the earliest colonial era through all of America’s military engagements from the French and Indian War, our American Revolution, , Mexican War, the , and the Western American Indian conflicts Whether you “patch” a round ball, load a military “minie ball”, shoot a mod- ern “inline” or a black powder “cartridge” gun, we would like to see you on the range as a shooter or a competitor.

If you would like to demonstrate your competitive spirit with the use of these antiques or exercise your hidden enthusiasm for black powder, your participa- tion is welcome.

Participants will com- pete in seven “pistol only” stages firing at paper, steel, and motion targets. 12 Americas Rifle Challenge Clinic Results ARC Clinic April 13, 2019

Beautiful weather – great camaraderie – a lot of fun shooting the match – very tasty donuts !! That about sums up the opening event for ARC 2019 in fourteen words. DMSC conducted an AM and a PM ARC Clinic where each match hosted 10 participants. The Clinic is designed to teach basic position shooting skills and match protocols for this action rifle activity. With NRA certified Instructors and Range Safety Officers, each participant had the opportunity to see a demonstration – practice those skills with dry fire drills – learn the commands and scoring protocols – then hit the range for some live fire opportunity. Clinic pacing and the practice drills were optimal, with constant opportunities existing for questions - each participant seemed to enjoy and learn from being at this ARC event. With a maximum score of 220, all did remarkably well – especially for the first timers. The mix of shooters included youth, ladies, brothers, parent/son combinations, married couples, and gentlemen. The ** indicates top score for that stage of fire.

13 NRA High Power DORMONT-MT. LEBANON SPORTSMEN’S CLUB HIGH POWER RIFLE LEAGUE MATCH APRIL 6, 2019 MATCH NO. 1 200 YARDS

The first match of the 2019 High Power season showed great, comfortable weather, twelve participants and has gar- nished the title – “Match of the Titans”! Why?? Look at the number of shooters in the Master Class and the scores. In my past 13 years of involvement with DMSC High Power, I have not seen such a compilation of partici- pants. After several years of hiatus, we are glad to see John Husk back on the line. We also offer a hearty welcome to newcomers AJ Nemeth and Chris Bielinski. Fritz Hemplemann garnished top honors with a 495-21X with John Husk hot on his tail with a 494-27X – Tom Morley posted a not too shabby 488-20X. Next match will be on Sunday, May 12th. All are welcome!

The Dormont Mount Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club CMP High Power Rifle Match February 17 th, 2019 In the spirit of patriotism, education, sportsmanship, and competi- tion 50 round, 4 stage, 2 position, 100 yard, center fire rifle match.

A brisk and blustery day at the range and only the hearty hung targets. I must say that I was im- pressed with the number of shooters for February at trigger finger numbing temperatures. High clouds flattened and diffused the light. Mr. Long led the .30 cal crew with a 455-12x but Mr. Morley led the parade dropping only 20 points to a 480-9x with his modern mouse gun. Lots of good shooting across the board. Thank you all for your cooperation and attention to the details of range safety. Bruce Ungar

The Dormont Mount Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club CMP High Power Rifle Match March 17th, 2019 In the spirit of patriotism, education, sportsmanship, and competi- tion a 50 round, 4 stage, 3 position, 100 yard, center fire rifle match.

A cold and blustery day on the range! Only the stout of heart showed. Those who shot were blessed with blue skies and white puffies that made for crisp sights. Dale Moore, who was pushing big bullets down- range, upheld the .30 cal tradition at this match. Ted Hildabrand takes the match away with a 468-7x. Lots of good shooting across the board.
