August 2010 Minster Matters 3 The ‘E’ Team EDITORIAL Firstly the good news, I have had my operation and I’m well on the road to recovery albeit I wasn’t allowed to drive for 3 weeks, so I’ve done plenty of walking (that’ll surprise some of M.W.C. Ray you, I know !!) . Still no heavy lifting, for another 9 weeks or so, but that won’t stop me doing most things, except of course making (Minster Window Company) the bulk deliveries of this issue, which most of my good lady team Property Maintenance members are doing for me, and I really thank them for this. I’ve heard a funny story about our Community Warden and Hair PC Burgess holding up a wall, which we may have more to tell you about next month. Let’s say for now that if you’ve seen either by Nora of them leaning on a wall just lately it wasn’t because they’d had a few too many or that they were feeling tired or ill, they were actually trying to stop it falling over !! We are very lucky that so many people care. I wish the same could be said for many motorists. While the vast majority of motorists tend to park sensibly and within the law, there are so many who do not have any consideration for others. Disabled people often find that they face a difficult obstacle course wherever they go throughout the village. There are cars, vans and lorries parked on pavements and road junctions. They even park on or in front of tactile paving. Disabled people do not have a chance. the village warden has no legal powers, although I would like to think that he would report illegal parking to the police. However, when I have telephoned the police myself, they do not get back to you to tell you if they have taken any action. I would therefore appeal to all motorists and road users to think of other people, especially the disabled, whenever you park your vehicle. It might help if you wonder what it would be like if you yourself were disabled. Yours faithfully, Gerry Glover Note from Editor: For those who are unaware what tactile paving is, in this village it is the bobbly paving that has been put down at the centre of some of the dropped kerbs to enable those who are blind or partially sighted to know where the low kerb is, blocking the dropped kerbs also hinders the disabled who use these to access the road crossing points with their disability scooters. Please keep them clear !!!!! MINSTER ROYAL BRITISH LEGION On the 14th July the ladies of Minster Royal British Legion held their sponsored walk in aid of the benevolent fund.

I had an incident were I fell out with my friend. Then I BULLYING went to Mrs Elks and Miss Wood and they sorted it out for me. It is really good we have mentors in school and Continued from people we can turn to. Thank you. Page 19 By Lori

When I was having problems, I kept it to myself for a very long time. When I was in year 4, I came out of school crying, my Dad had had enough. He went into school and spoke to Mrs Stone. A couple of days later, I saw Mrs Elks and she sorted everything out by forming a friendship club. We played games that taught us about teamwork. Bulling is when people are mean to you constantly. Now I come out of school smiling. Bulling is not a very nice experience. It can make you By Lia not want to come to come to school. People should always be sorry If they bully other people. If people bully you they are probably upset about something that happens to them. You should tell an adult if you feel like you are being bulled. People that bully may even have been bullied themselves. NO-ONE should be bullied When you are not being bullied you will be happy_!!!!!!!!!!! By Penny When I started in year 3 I had problems making new friends so I went to the mentors and explained what kept happening they found some nice friends for me to play with, I have problems on the playground with my friends, Now I have lots of friends to play with . that to me is really upsetting and I go to Mrs. Elks or Now I know that if I need help I should go to a mentor Mrs. Newgreen and that really helps me and I don’t because they will help me with all my problems. feel that upset anymore.
