First a screaming ship of horror smashes into Liberty Island.By RavenBook Review: Thursday, April 30, 2015The Green Lama: Scions by Adam Lance GarciaNOTICEAny spoilers are totally unintended. The idea is to whet the appetite, not to spoil the entree.END NOTICE:1938. New York Harbor, near Liberty Island.Wilfred Roth, already involved in Organized Crime at the tender age of only sixteen, is helping dump a concrete-covered body in the dark water. He and his sidekick and mentor, Josh Reynolds, have just sent ol’ Drew Salmon to a watery grave and are returning to shore when another body, a girl; torn and bloody floats by.Then they hear the cries. Screams as raucous as any flock of gulls are coming from a ship bearing down on Liberty Island. But Wilfred hears voices above the screams; sinister whispers that speak of blood and death. An unintelligible shout comes from his throat as the ship tears right through their boat.Meanwhile, for Lieutenant John Caraway, it’s business as usual. He is booking a crook taken in a raid in Chinatown. But tonight will be like no other, for he soon gets wind of the ship of the dead and dying crashing into Liberty Island. This plunges the tough lawman into an adventure he probably would just have soon missed. The Theatrical Boarding House on West Forty-Fifth Street, is an establishment ruled with an iron hand by Ma Smith. Ken Clayton is staying there, having moved to New York to try his hand at acting on the stage instead of the screen. Also staying at the Boarding House is red haired Jean Farrell. Both Ken and Jean have worked with the Green Lama on occasion. Jean has been listening to a bootleg police radio and she tells Ken that the Ocean Liner The Bartlett has just smashed into Liberty Island. She decides to inform the Green Lama.Jethro Dumont has been trapped by investigative reporter Betty Dale, friend to a certain masked man whose call sign is an x. She strongly suspects that Dumont is the Green Lama, basing her views on Dumont’s time in Tibet and the first sighting of the Lama in action. Jethro is secretly pleased when he is called away to take a phone call from Tsarong. The Lama finds himself right in the middle of events, as he heads to Bedloe’s Island, now Liberty Island. The Bartlett has smashed ashore with a cargo of corpses. They are shredded pieces of bone and bloody flesh. The horror is heightened when it is discovered that they killed each other, and horribly injured themselves. Wilfred Roth has been helped ashore after his encounter with the ship, and there is one survivor—a young woman named “Desdemona Georgas. Written in the victim’s blood in many languages is the phrase: “Give us the keystone.”Also arriving in New York are Gary and Evangl Stewart-Brown. The reformed criminal and his lovely wife, a post debutante, are in New York to meet Gary’s mother as her ship comes in. Unfortunately, her ship was The Bartlett. As the liner was owned by Jethro Dumont, he meets the couple and promises to pay funeral expenses for not only Mrs. Brown, but everyone aboard the ship. Although Gary and Evangl meet while working for the Green Lama, they have no idea that he is Jethro Dumont. This gets together most of our cast of characters. But in all this, Adam Garcia is simply setting the table. And although the china and silver are first rate, they only hint at the courses that will be served to hungry readers. What sort of supernatural energy could cause such death and senseless destruction? Who or what is the keystone so badly wanted by whatever took over the ship? When the two survivors come down with the same self-destructive tendencies as the people aboard the ship, what has entered them to keep them tearing themselves to bits and yet still alive? Wilfred kidnaps Jean, and Desdemona is ripping apart the Police Station, seemingly indestructible. All that is certain is that this power, whatever it may be, wants two people: Jean Farrell and The Green Lama…This begins Adam Garcia’s foray into the world of the Green Lama that will continue in The Green Lama: Horror in Clay and The Green Lama: Unbound. And trust me, even if you have already read those two masterful volumes, it will not take away from Garcia’s intense storytelling in this one. When Adam Garcia is the chef, your reading menu will always consist of appetizers, entrees, and deserts that will bring you back to the table for seconds! And thirds!I give Mr. Garcia yet another five stars out of five plus! And please, sir, keep churning out the books!Quoth the Raven…2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Light and DarknessBy Christopher SouthworthThe Green Lama stories often require a bit of suspension of disbelief in order to service the narrative properly, but this novel sucked me right in. As someone who frequently picks up and drops works as the mood takes me, it's a bit unusual to read through an entire novel without distracting myself with others - and this one did exactly that. It's dark, features a slew of aides, each with a distinct and meaningful personality, and the Lama himself is neither boring, nor self-contradictory. As one of the better new works based on a classic character, I'd recommend this title for long-term fans and new readers alike.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ... serious new talent and this is by far his best Green Lama adventure yetBy KMNYCAdam Lance Garcia is a serious new talent and this is by far his best Green Lama adventure yet. Check it out! New York, 1938A cruise ship crashes suddenly on Liberty Island. All onboard are dead by their own murderous hands. All but one, a young woman named Desdemona. What secrets does she harbor within her very soul? And what horrors does she bring ashore? This supernatural mystery is the beginning of a nightmare that will plague Jethro Dumont, the Green Lama, for years to come. Alongside his companions, Jean Farrell, Ken Clayton, and Lieutenant Caraway, the Green Lama must battle a demonic possession that threatens engulf the city, bringing him face to face with an evil that reaches into his very origins and extends beyond the darkness between the stars. Can even the Green Lama, with his mastery of the supernatural, be enough to prevent the coming of.... SCIONS? "Adam Garcia has done something that hasn't been done. He has taken noir mashed it with super hero and threw in horror to create a concussion that drives you down the road of mystery. The writing is crisp, in that he gives us what we need to know and not much else. He also amps up the tension like turning on the power to a live wire. The book is not for the faint of heart, it is for those of you who want action, drama, a love story, tragedy, and horror all rolled into one. I for one recommend this book to all people who like to read over the age of 18." It was during the fall of 1941 that Herron came cover for Fawcett and the first of the CMJr origin trilogy, Master Comics #21 (Dec. 1941). Below up with the idea of a new addition to the Fawcett family. With Captain is a vignette derived from Raboy’s cover art for Captain Marvel Jr. #26 (Jan. 1, 1945). Marvel sales increasing dramatically since his debut in February 1940, Fawcett management figured a teenage version of the “Big Red Cheese” would only increase their profits. Herron liked Raboy’s art very much, and wanted a more illustrative style for the new addition, as opposed to the C. C. Beck or Pete Costanza simplified approach on Captain Marvel. The new boy-hero was ably dubbed Captain Marvel Jr., and it was Mac Raboy who was given the job of visualizing him for the very first time. Jr.’s basic attire was blue, with a red cape.

  • Golden Age Redux! by Bill Browne
1 Ashcan Edition Volume 1: Issue 1 Hey there all. I wanted to take a minute and welcome everyone to the premiere issue ofAshcan Edition. The E-Zine was originally released as a series of web supplements for the 4C Role PlayingGame, a retro-fit for the FASERIP RPG system. Since the official release of the rules, there hasbeen verylittle support seen. Some ofthe hooligans keeping the system going were Ronin Arts (Phil Reed being the original mad man responsible for resurrecting the system), Daniel Perez of Highmoon Games, and Chuck Riceof RPGOBjects. Even in the wake of these fantastic individuals throwing their support behind the game, Material for 4C was comingout very slowly. In December of 2008, HAZARD Studio released a series of web articles detailing a few characters and organizations using the 4C system. The articles received good feedback from people around thenet (those who played 4c and some who didn’t). Everythingwas released “ashcan” style with everything done in a black and white “small time press” look. In keeping with that, HAZARD Studio’s wanted to take the Ashcan Edition to the next level while maintaining it as a free resource to our fans. Starting with this issue, the Ashcan Edition will be released as a monthly free magazine supporting super hero themed role playing games. The features willvarymonth to month but we hope to be a stomping ground for the Supers Gaming Community to get news, reviews, and the occasional wanted poster for our rogue’s gallery. María José Álvarez Faedo VºBº: Oviedo, 2012 To comic book creators of yesterday, today and tomorrow. The comics medium is a very specialized area of the Arts, home to many rare and talented blooms and flowering imaginations and it breaks my heart to see so many of our best and brightest bowing down to the same market pressures which drive lowest-common-denominator blockbuster movies and television cop shows. Let's see if we can call time on this trend by demanding and creating big, wild comics which stretch our imaginations. Let's make living breathing, sprawling adventures filled with mind-blowing images of things unseen on Earth. Let's make artefacts that are not faux-games or movies but something other, something so rare and strange it might as well be a window into another universe because that's what it is.
