Captain Marvel Jr. TM & © DC Comics DC © & TM Jr. Marvel Captain Introduction by ROY THOMAS Chapter Four Little Boy Blue Ed Herron had come to Fawcett with a successful track record of writing Explosive is the best way to describe this iconic, colorful cover (on opposite page) by and creating comic book characters that had gone on to greater popularity, Mac Raboy, whose renditions of a teen-age super-hero with a realistic physique was noth- including work on the earliest stories of Timely’s colorful Captain America— ing less than perfect. Captain Marvel Jr. #4, (Feb. 19, 1943). Inset bottom is Raboy’s first and his kid sidekick Bucky. It was during the fall of 1941 that Herron came cover for Fawcett and the first of the CMJr origin trilogy, Master Comics #21 (Dec. 1941). Below up with the idea of a new addition to the Fawcett family. With Captain is a vignette derived from Raboy’s cover art for Captain Marvel Jr. #26 (Jan. 1, 1945). Marvel sales increasing dramatically since his debut in February 1940, Fawcett management figured a teenage version of the “Big Red Cheese” would only increase their profits. Herron liked Raboy’s art very much, and wanted a more illustrative style for the new addition, as opposed to the C. C. Beck or Pete Costanza simplified approach on Captain Marvel. The new boy-hero was ably dubbed Captain Marvel Jr., and it was Mac Raboy who was given the job of visualizing him for the very first time. Jr.’s basic attire was blue, with a red cape.

  • Golden Age Redux! by Bill Browne
1 Ashcan Edition Volume 1: Issue 1 Hey there all. I wanted to take a minute and welcome everyone to the premiere issue ofAshcan Edition. The E-Zine was originally released as a series of web supplements for the 4C Role PlayingGame, a retro-fit for the FASERIP RPG system. Since the official release of the rules, there hasbeen verylittle support seen. Some ofthe hooligans keeping the system going were Ronin Arts (Phil Reed being the original mad man responsible for resurrecting the system), Daniel Perez of Highmoon Games, and Chuck Riceof RPGOBjects. Even in the wake of these fantastic individuals throwing their support behind the game, Material for 4C was comingout very slowly. In December of 2008, HAZARD Studio released a series of web articles detailing a few characters and organizations using the 4C system. The articles received good feedback from people around thenet (those who played 4c and some who didn’t). Everythingwas released “ashcan” style with everything done in a black and white “small time press” look. In keeping with that, HAZARD Studio’s wanted to take the Ashcan Edition to the next level while maintaining it as a free resource to our fans. Starting with this issue, the Ashcan Edition will be released as a monthly free magazine supporting super hero themed role playing games. The features willvarymonth to month but we hope to be a stomping ground for the Supers Gaming Community to get news, reviews, and the occasional wanted poster for our rogue’s gallery. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the show… Regards, Walt Robillard Http://hazardstudio.net · NewsFlash PG.6 · WantedPosters PG.7 · Profiles PG.8 · RetroView PG.11 · GettingtheGear PG.14 · NewPowers PG.15 Super Human Rampages through Building: Story by Dave Macklin – The Warner Federal Building downtown was attacked when a known criminal Super Powered Being, blasted through the outer wall.

María José Álvarez Faedo VºBº: Oviedo, 2012 To comic book creators of yesterday, today and tomorrow. The comics medium is a very specialized area of the Arts, home to many rare and talented blooms and flowering imaginations and it breaks my heart to see so many of our best and brightest bowing down to the same market pressures which drive lowest-common-denominator blockbuster movies and television cop shows. Let's see if we can call time on this trend by demanding and creating big, wild comics which stretch our imaginations. Let's make living breathing, sprawling adventures filled with mind-blowing images of things unseen on Earth. Let's make artefacts that are not faux-games or movies but something other, something so rare and strange it might as well be a window into another universe because that's what it is. • Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 2011 SUPERHEROES, MYTHICAL CREATURES, AND EVIL FORCES TAKE OVER RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART IN EXHIBITION EXPLORING THE TIBET OF COMICS FROM DECEMBER 9, 2011 – JUNE 11, 2012 THE GREEN LAMA, MICKEY MOUSE, BUDDHA AND DALAI LAMA REVEAL HOW FANTASTICAL DEPICTIONS OF TIBET HAVE SHAPED REAL WORLD PERCEPTIONS New York – When the evil Hooded One unleashes a pack of giant dinosaurs on New York City, young Peter Cannon must use his knowledge of the Tibetan secret scrolls to save the city from destruction. Orphaned as a child and raised by Tibetan lamas, Peter has gained the Tibetan cultural knowledge and spiritual wisdom he needs to defeat the evil doer, who vows revenge. Comic book storylines, such as this one from the Origin of an Avenger (1966) have drawn on the cultural and religious traditions of Tibet for more than 60 years. Mixing real knowledge with long-held myths and stereotypes, comic illustrators and writers have created a Tibet shrouded in mystery and fantasy. The Rubin Museum of Art’s upcoming Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics features more than 50 comic books from around the world and provides audiences with unprecedented access to fantastic Tibetan adventures. Characters as diverse as the Green Lama, Mickey Mouse, and Tomb Raider Lara Croft journey through Tibet, frequently gaining superpowers and strengths from ancient Tibetan teachings and legends along the way. The most complete collection of comics related to Tibet ever assembled, the exhibition includes comics from the United States, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, India and Japan–some of which have been translated into English for the first time and will be presented both in the original and translated formats.

  • General Catalog 2021
TERRY’S COMICS Welcome to Catalog number twenty-four. Thank you to everyone who ordered from one or more of our previous catalogs and especially Gold and Platinum customers. Please be patient when you call if we are not here, we promise to get back to you as soon as possible. Our normal hours are Monday through Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM Pacific Time. You can always send e-mail requests and we will reply as soon as we are able. All comics that are stickered below $10 have been omitted as well as paperbacks, Digests, Posters and Artwork and Magazines. I also removed the mid-grade/priced issue if there were more than two copies, if you do not see a middle grade of an issue number, just ask for it. They are available on the regular website www.terryscomics.com. If you are looking for non-key comics from the 1980's to present, please send us your want list as we have most every issue from the past 35 years in our warehouse. We have been fortunate to still have acquired some amazing comics during this past challenging year. What is left from the British Collection of Pre-code Horror/Sci-Fi selection, has been regraded and repriced according to the current market. 2021 started off great with last year’s catalog and the 1st four Comic book conventions. Unfortunately, after mid- March all the conventions have been cancelled. We still managed to do a couple of mini conventions between lockdowns and did a lot of buying on a trip through several states as far east as Ohio.
