Coalmine Methane Under Indian Mining Scenario
Coalmine Methane Under Indian Mining Scenario CMM under Indian Mining Scenario • In India coal is a reliable energy resource due to limited availability of petroleum and natural gas. • Coal based non-conventional energy is poised to play a major role in India as : 9 It would bridge the gap between demand and availability of conventional energy source 9 International trading scenario in energy sector has been stormy 9 Environmental concerns has given impetus to clean coal technologies. • Under the scenario, Coalbed Methane (CBM) and its subsets like Coal Mine Methane (CMM) and Abandoned Mine Methane (AMM) may find important place in Indian Energy scenario in coming years. CMM under Indian Mining Scenario Development of CBM in India • Out of different sub-sets of Coalbed Methane (CBM), CBM from the deep lying coal deposits (VCBM) has been pursued. • So far 16 Coalbed Methane (VCBM) blocks have been allotted under CBM policy of GoI covering an area of 7807 sq. km and prognosticated CBM resource of 825 BCM. • 10 more blocks have been opened for global bidding. • Several core wells/pilot wells have been drilled in the allotted blocks and are giving encouraging results. • Few operators are planning commercial production from 2007- 08. • The total production potentiality in the allotted blocks is 23 MMSCMD, which is about 10% of the existing Natural Gas demand. CMM under Indian Mining Scenario Coal Mine Methane and Abandoned Mine Methane • Coal Mine Methane (CMM)/ Abandoned Mine Methane (AMM) also subset of CBM is related to mining activities and as per MOU between MoC and MoP&NG, coal producing companies have right of CBM exploitation in their working mines including pre and post mining operations. -

Bambusa Gurgandii, a New Species of Bamboo
Bambusa gurgandii K. M. Wong & M. H. Diep (Poaceae, Bambusoideae), a new species of bamboo from Vietnam Khoon Meng Wong & My Hanh Diep Abstract WONG, K. M. & M.H. DIEP (2015). Bambusa gurgandii K. M. Wong & M. H. Diep (Poaceae, Bambusoideae), a new species of bamboo from Vietnam. Candollea 70: 211-218. In English, English abstract. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15553/c2015v702a6 Bambusa Schreb. (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) is a large and complex tropical and subtropical Asian genus that is currently being taxonomically remodeled through morphological and molecular phylogenetic approaches. The type and type alliance of the genus is, however, morphologically well distinguished. Preliminary documentation suggests there could be some 60-70 species of Bambusa in Vietnam, although confirmation requires more rigorous herbarium-based vouchering. A new species of bamboo belonging to the type alliance, Bambusa gurgandii K. M. Wong & M. H. Diep, is described, known only from cultivated specimens in Vietnam. It belongs to the group of unarmed Bambusa species including Bambusa burmanica Gamble, Bambusa farinacea K. M. Wong, Bambusa nutans Wall. ex Munro, Bambusa polymorpha Munro, Bambusa teres Buch.-Ham. ex Munro and Bambusa tulda Roxb. but is distinguished by details of the pseudospikelets and flowers. Jaridih East Gets a Brand-New CSC
Jaridih East gets a brand-new CSC The people of Jaridih East Gram Panchayat (GP) in Bermo Block of Bokaro district in Jharkhand owe a debt of gratitude to their women leaders. Efforts of those women have resulted in a beautifully painted community sanitary complex (CSC) close to the famous Damodar Nath temple which will go a long way to prevent open defecation. Consisting of 712 households and a population of 5089, the GP that is located 35 km away from the Block headquarters is frequented by visitors from within the district and elsewhere all through the year. During Makar Sakranti every year, a two-day fair is held which attracts large crowds to the temple situated on the banks of Damodar River, a little above its point of confluence with Konar River. Under those circumstances, there was an urgent need for a community sanitary complex. To address this, the Gram Panchayat Mukhiya-Cum-President of Village Water and Sanitation Committee-Jaridih East - Smt. Kanchan Devi and Jal Sahiya-Cum-Treasurer - Smt. Sunita Devi called for a Gram Sabha that provided an opportunity to discuss the actual requirement of CSC close to the Damodar Nath temple to keep the surrounding area clean. With the involvement of the Damodar Nath Temple Committee, it was unanimously decided to construct a CSC. The entire process was supported by Mr. Goswami, District Coordinator (Sanitation and Hygiene), Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen, District Water and Sanitation Mission Prakalp- Bokaro. As soon as he received the proposal for a CSC, he passed it on to the District Water and Sanitation Committee-Bokaro which approved of the same and sanctioned financial support.
