This cross- sectional study was conducted on 547 breastfeeding mothers in Falavarjan-Iran. Participants were selected randomly, and questionnaires of socio-demographic characteristics, breastfeeding self-efcacy, self esteem, and the GHQ-28 were completed through interview. The mean score (SD) of breastfeeding self-efcacy was 134.5 (13.3) from the score range of 33–165. The mean score of self-esteem was 5.89 (4.0) from − 10 to + 10 score range, and the mean score of general health was 19.7 (9.13) from the 0–84 score range. Self-esteem, general health and its dimensions showed a signifcant relationship with breastfeed- ing self-efcacy. According to the multivariate linear regression, physical symptoms, social dysfunction, age, education, spouse’s job, economic status, duration of previous breastfeeding, and receiving breastfeeding education were related to breastfeeding self-efcacy. The results indicated that with an improvement in self-esteem and general health, breastfeeding self-efcacy escalates signifcantly. • Assessing Epidemiology of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Isfahan, Iran
J Vector Borne Dis 50, March 2013, pp. 30–37 Assessing epidemiology of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Isfahan, Iran Marziyeh Karami1, Monir Doudi2 & Mahbubeh Setorki3 1Young Researchers Club, Falavarjan Branch; 2Department of Microbiology, Falavarjan Branch, Islamic Azad University, Falavarjan, Isfahan, Iran; 3Department of Biology, Izeh Branch, Islamic Azad University, Izeh, Iran ABSTRACT Background & objectives: Leishmaniasis has an annual incidence of 0.5–1.5 million new cases and is endemic in 88 countries throughout the world. About 90% of cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) are reported from seven countries including Iran. Evidence suggests the increased annual incidence of this disease in Iran. Intracellular protozoan parasite, Leishmania, is an obligatory parasite. Sandflies transfer infectious forms of the parasite or its metacyclic promastigotes to its vertebrate hosts such as humans by biting. In order to review the epidemiology of CL in Isfahan, Iran, factors such as incidence, disease causes, geographic features, age, and sex distribution, nationality, and occupation of patients, and the clinical spectrum of disease were evaluated. Methods: During the study, 1315 patients with CL, who referred to the Dermatology and Leishmaniasis Research Center at Isfahan, were evaluated. Results: The highest prevalence of CL was observed in fall (54%) and in northern areas of Isfahan (60.9%). Although CL was prevalent in both men and women, it had higher incidence in men (61.8%). The majority of patients (31.2%) aged 21–30 yr old. Most lesions were nodule-shaped (36.5%) and in upper extremities (48.3%) particularly in men (32.4%). While 81.2% of the subjects were Iranian, others were Afghani or with other nationalities.

Odontobuthus doriae Thorell 1876 (Arachnida: Scorpi- onida: Buthidae) is a scorpion of medical importance and therefore its geographical distribution in Isfahan Province has been studied. Methods: This descriptive cross–sectional study was designed between Mar and Jun in 2012 and 2013 in Province of Isfahan, central Iran. Overall, 164 O. doriae scorpions were collected from their natural habitat by identifying the dug burrows. This arthropod’s burrows were identified based on the presence of tumuli, particularly between May and Jun at the sloping foothills of pristine embankments. The sampling data was categorized and compared. Results: The relative frequency of collected O. doriae for the counties was Mobarakeh (13.5%), Shahinshahre (11.5%), Borkhar (9%), Shahreza (7.5%), Kashan (7.5%), Naeen (6%), Natanz (5.5%), Isfahan (4.8%), Najafabad (4.8%), Aran and Bidgol (4.8%), Dehaghan (4.8%), Flavarjan (3.7%), Khomeinishahr (3.7%), Tiran (3.7%), Gol- payegan (3.7%), Ardestan (3.7%) and Lenjan (2.5%). This concept is adopted in evaluating of the rural areas of Falavarjan County in Isfahan province through assessing the effective dimensions and indices of the region and analyzing the assumption whether there is a significant difference in the level of sustainability in different areas of the region. For sustainability assessment, economic, social, environmental, physical and accessibility dimensions are applied in a descriptive and analytic study method with the assistance of TOPSIS model. The statistical sample consists of 47 villages and 378 households. Results show that there is no uniformity in the level of sustainability in the region, and in each of the dimensions under study there are differences between the areas. This study aimed to determine the measles incidence risk, to conduct spatial mapping of annual measles incidence, and to assess the transition threat in different districts of Iran. Methods: A historical cohort study with retrospective data was conducted. The measles surveillance data containing 14 294 cases suspected of having measles in Iran were analyzed during 2014-2016. WHO Measles Programmatic Risk Assessment Tool was applied to calculate and map the incidence of measles in each district, to determine the annual incidence rate, and to conduct spatial threat assessment risk. Threat assessment was measured based on factors influencing the exposure and transmission of measles virus in the population. The annual measles incidence rate and spatial mapping of incidence in each Iranian district was conducted by Measles Programmatic Risk Assessment Tool. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics in Excel 2013 and Arc GIS 10.3. Results: Of 14 294 suspected cases, 0.6% (CI 95%: 0.599-0.619) were identified as clinically compatible measles, 0.280 (CI 95%: 0.275-0.284) as confirmed rubella, 0.52% (CI 95%: 0.516-0.533) as epi-linked measles, 4.6% (CI 95%: 0.450-0.464) as lab-confirmed measles, and 94% (CI 95%: 93.93-94.11) were discarded.

The evidence presented in the literature indicates that hard water may reduce the cases of sudden death caused by CVDs because drinking water contains significant amounts of calcium and magnesium, which play a crucial role in the electrical activity of heart. Hence, the present study aimed at investigating the relationship between water hardness and CVD mortality rate in Isfahan, Iran. METHODS: In this ecological study, the available data regarding the cardiovascular mortality rate and water hardness have been used. Preparation of zoning map has been conducted using the Attribution Commons Creative Geographic Information System (GIS) software considering Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolation models. Moreover, statistical analysis has been conducted using SPSS software. any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. properly is work original the provided any medium, RESULTS: A reverse relationship was observed between cardiovascular mortality rate and water hardness.
