In faculty news, Christopher Pinney, Professor of Anthropology and Visual Culture at University College London, continues as our Visiting Mary Jane Crowe Professor 2007-2009. His “(World) Art?” conference in the spring was a tremendous success and, among other things, brilliantly represented our departmental interest in exploring new terrains in the context of the globalization of our field. This year we are very pleased to welcome to our department two new faculty members, Jesús Escobar (Associate Professor), whose area of expertise is early modern Spanish art and architecture, and Ann Gunter (Professor of Art History and in the Humanities), whose field is Ancient Near Eastern visual culture. (See their individual profiles on page 6.) The department is currently searching in the area of East Asian art. This year we received an unprecedented and extremely generous gift from Elizabeth and Todd Warnock. The Warnocks are a local fam- ily and have been involved with the University for some time; this was their first gift to the department.
