Did you know: To ride the roller coasters at Kings Dominion, you have to be tall enough?

Tippy Toe Time: 1. Measure yourself and place a post-it note on the wall at your height. 2. Measure out the height for each ride and place a sticker on the wall. 3. Use the height requirements to determine if you are tall enough to ride. Then subtract to find out how much taller or shorter you are than the requirement.

I am ______inches tall.

Height Can you ride ? Difference in Attraction Name Requirement Yes or No Height

Rebel Yell 44 inches

Grizzly 42 inches

Anaconda 48 inches

Woodstock Express 44 inches

Flight of Fear 54 inches

Loop-da-loop! If you measured using centimeters, would the value be higher or lower than when you measured in inches? Explain your answer.

ANSWER KEY

Tippy Toe Time: 1. Students should correctly place a post-it note on the wall at their height. 2. Students should correctly place post-it notes on the wall at the heights of each of the rides. You may have them do this part in groups. 3. Students’ answers in the table will vary based on the students’ heights. • Yes statements will reflect that the student is taller than the requirement. • No statements will reflect that the student is shorter than the requirement. • The difference in height will be either: o Student Height – Height Requirement, if the student can ride; or o Height Reauirement – Student Height, if the student cannot ride.

For example: Student height of 38 inches:

Minimum Can you ride ? Difference in Attraction Name Height Yes or No height Requirement

Rebel Yell 44 inches No 38 - 44 = 6 in

Grizzly 42 inches No 42 - 38 = 4 in

Loop-da-loop! Students should recognize that the value will be higher because cms are smaller than inches.
