However, formal financial institutions have maintained low presence in the rural areas. This has affected the rural dwellers’ access to deposit savings and credits that can improve their economic activities. This study examined the influence of informal microfinance on economic activities of rural dwellers in the selected rural areas of Kwara South Senatorial District. Using a multiple regression analysis, six hundred (600) questionnaire was administered on members of informal microfinance institution in the study area, the study found that fund provided as credit facilities for transaction purposes, funds for housing and combating diseases have significant influence on the economic activities of the rural areas. The study recommends group savings and group lending in order to increase savings and credits to the rural dwellers. Government should also provide improved infrastructural facilities that would enable rural dwellers have more access to their economic activities Key Words: Microfinance, Informal, Economic Activities, Rural, Kwara 1.0 Introduction Africa‟s development challenges go deeper than low income, falling trade shares, low savings and slow growth. They also include inequality and uneven access to productive resources, social exclusion and insecurity especially among the women (Pitamber, 2003). However, more specific concern is raised in Nigeria due to rural-urban disparities in income distribution, access to education and health care services, and prevalence of ethnic or cross-boundary conflicts. -

Abstract The incessant failure of road network in Nigeria has generated a lot of concern by road users and government. Apart from lives and properties that are lost annually to road crashes, road rehabilitation across the country has become a financial burden to the federal government. Several factors have been identified to be responsible to road failure in Nigeria; they include geological, geomorphological, road usage, bad construction and wrong approach to maintenance. Hence, this paper examines some of the factors responsible for road failure along Ilorin-Ajase Ipo road, Kwara State Nigeria. Soil samples were collected from Five (5) portions of the road that are badly affected by road failure. These portions include: Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) 17+800km, Kabba Owode 18+00Km, Idofian 23+700Km, Koko 29+700Km and Omupo 35+700Km axis. The soil samples collected were analyzed four engineering properties: particle size distribution (PSD),atterberg limit, compaction test California Bearing Ratio (CBR). -

Ayua3 1,2,3 Department Of Physics, University Of Agriculture Makurdi, Benue State - Nigeria Abstract: The purpose of this work is to analyze fine particulate matter (PM10 ) distribution in the ambient air of some major towns in Nasarawa State-North central Nigeria using a high volume respirable dust sampler (APM 460 NL) model, also the meteorological parameters of the State have been correlated with the measured values. Ambient air laden with suspended particulates enter the APM 460 NL system through the inlet pipe, which separates the air into fine and coarse particles. The PM10 concentrations were analyzed to obtain the monthly average PM10 concentration and monthly maximum concentration. The results show that Nasarawa State towns of Karu and Lafia have fine particulates loading in the ambient air more than the recommended standard set by NAAQS and WHO. Variation trends of pollution levels were also identified. The fine particulate matter PM10 average concentrations in the ambient air of Nasarawa State towns had average values increase in the range of 4.0 – 18.0µg/m3 per month. The level of monthly increase of maximum average concentrations also had readings in the range of 8.0 – 20.0 µg/m3 per month. These values were compared with the NAAQS to obtain the toxicity potential for all the study towns in the State. -

The paper discusses a common methodology used by the studies, consisting of a triangulation of qualitative and quantitative methods. Such methodologies are inherently complex as they require com- parisons across systems, sites and procedures. The studies were conducted in six sites in Africa and one site in Argentina. Generally, the intervention resulted either in positive change or in no change, except in the area of staff relationships where conflicts were more frequent after the intervention than before. -

However the health indicators need a lot of improvement to keep the pace setter status. Oyo state has 262 maternal deaths per 100,000 live birth annually These maternal deaths are preventable with the use of reliable and appropriate interventions including family planning/ childbirth spacing (FP/CBS) services. Infant mortality stands at 69 deaths per 1,000 live births The unmet need for contraceptive use is 13.2% While the contraceptive prevalence Rate (CPR) is 37 .4% How to Improve Contraceptive Use in Oyo State. The Need for Specific Budget Line for Family Planning/ Child Spacing The NHIS and under 5/MDG fund initiative introduced by Oyo State as well as the new Health Insurance Agency provide a window of opportunity to mainstream FP/CBS in order to reach the undeserved and less privileged. There is the need to incorporate a specific budget line by creating a sub-code in the newly introduced IPSAS policy for FP/CBS programs. The continuous release of funds will create a huge opportunity to sustain FP services. Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative Adequate funding for FP/CBS is needed for logistics, capacity building, supervision, monitoring and demand creation to achieve improved uptake of FP/CBS Services. -

Received 2 June, 2020; Accepted 8 August, 2020 This study investigated the impact of English Language proficiency testing on the pronunciation performance of undergraduates in South-west. Nigeria. The study was a descriptive survey research design. The target population size was 1243 (200-level) undergraduates drawn from eight tertiary institutions. The instruments used for data collection were the English Language Proficiency Test and Pronunciation Test. The English Language proficiency test was used to measure the performance of students in English Language and was adopted from the Post-UTME past questions from Babcock University Admissions Office on Post Unified Tertiary Admissions and Matriculation Examinations screening exercise (Post-UTME) for undergraduates in English and Linguistics. The test contains 20 objective English questions with optional answers. The instruments were validated through experts’ advice as the items in the instrument are considered appropriate in terms of subject content and instructional objectives while Cronbach alpha technique was used to estimate the reliability coefficient of the English Proficiency test, a value of 0.883 was obtained. -

With Dr Emmanuel Ojo, he was host organizer of the Higher Education Research and Policy Network (HERPNET) 10th Regional Higher Education Conference on Sustainable Transformation and Higher Education held in South Africa in September 2015. Felix has the unique experience of working in higher education in three different countries, Zimbabwe; the United Kingdom and in South Africa. Over a thirty year period, Felix has published 60 articles in scholarly journals, written and co-edited 4 books, has 15 chapters in edited books and contributed to national and international research reports. Felix is a full professor of higher education at the School of Education, University of the Witwatersrand (WSoE) specialising in research around leadership, internationalisation and globalisation in higher education. OJO, Emmanuel is lecturer at the School of Education, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is actively involved in higher education research. His recent publication is a co-authored book chapter focusing on young faculty in South African higher education, titled, Challenges and Opportunities for New Faculty in South African Higher Education Young Faculty in the Twenty-First Century: International Perspectives (pp. 253-283) published by the State University of New York Press (SUNY). Variables such as number of students, teachers’ ratio available textbooks were also examined. The study adopted descriptive design since it is an ex post facto research. The target population for this study is Ogbomosho North Local Government Area of Oyo State comprising nine (9) High Secondary Schools. Three (3) teachers of economics and five (5) students from each school were used in answering the questionnaires. The study revealed high number of economics students (5,864) as against 26 teachers in nine (9) public schools under study. This gives a very high teacher-student ratio of 1:225. The findings also showed that there one lack of teaching aids, library facilities and where available, there is lack of textbooks of Economics. All the schools studied were highly dense resulted into high students’ population. Based on the findings of his study, the federal and the state governments should employ more teachers, especially in Economics to checkmate rising teacher student ratio. More senior secondary schools should be built with the increasing student population within the LGA under study. -

The amount disbursed comprised of N627.14bn from the Statutory Account, N114.54bn from Valued Added Tax (VAT) and N162.08bn exchange gain difference. Federal government received a total of N291.46bn from the N741.84bn. States received a total of N194.45bn and Local governments received N146.01bn. The sum of N53.05bn was shared among the oil producing states as 13% derivation fund while N40.00bn was transferred to Excess crude Account(ECA). -

ABSTRACT: The hydrochemistry of River Benue at Makurdi was studied for two years (July 2011-June 2013). Water samples were collected monthly from five different Stations on the shoreline of River Benue at Makurdi. The hydrochemistry of the water samples were examined using standard methods. The results of the physico-chemical parameters indicate the river water samples with the following characteristics: conductivity ranged from 139±215.05µS/cm - 63.95±30.94µS/cm, pH varied from 6.33±0.59-6.95±0.86, TDS varied from 28.29±11.69mg/L- 69.14±106.65mg/L, TSS varied from 41.00±25.42mg/L- 87.56±57.39mg/L, colour ranged from 192.60±143.79TCU-393.01±175.73TCU, turbidity ranged from 44.53±44.28NTU – 91.38±56.54NTU, surface water temperature ranged from 28.09±1.970C – 28.99±1.630C, bicarbonate ranged from 121.98±59.13mg/L – 185.61±57.20mg/L, chloride ranged from 117.44±59.46mg/L – 173.07±71.27mg/L, nitrate ranged from 2.23±3.14mg/L – 3.76±5.22mg/L, sulphate ranged from 10.41±9.84mg/L- 17.24±15.21mg/L, phosphate ranged from 0.92±1.11mg/L- 1.47±2.07mg/L and copper ranged from 0.11±0.09mg/L- 0.31±0.34mg/L. -
