Parts of Nirvana’s masterpiece Nevermind, The Smashing Pumpkins’ debut Gish, The Con by Teagan and Sara, L7’s Bricks Are Heavy and a plethora of spectacular albums were recorded and produced at Smart Studios. It was a place for independent and underground rock acts to get recordings made from the studio’s infancy in the ‘80s right up to its closing in 2010. The documentary, directed by Wendy Schneider, examines the studio’s existence and origin. The film also features interviews with Vig, Marker, Laura Jane Grace from Against Me!, Dave Grohl from Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson, Jimmy Chamberlin and Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins and many others. It promises to provide an in-depth look at an historic space located within a building mistaken for being a crack house in the place known as Mad City.

In a candid and tearful moment, Jesy recalls how she took an overdose after taunts about her looks became too much to bear. Jesy and her bandmates won the reality show in 2011, instantly taking them from complete unknowns to celebrities. In the documentary, the singer also explores how the trolling affected her mum, her sister, her bandmates and her relationships – and meets ordinary people who tell Jesy their stories of being bullied online. How much of an issue is trolling? The bullying began almost immediately after Jesy appeared on TV in the X Factor. She was put into the girl group alongside Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. When Little Mix were announced as that year’s winners, Jesy says they were all “on cloud nine”. But just hours after winning the show, her excitement was tainted by trolling. “I had about 101 Facebook messages in my inbox, and the first one that came up was from some random man, saying: ‘You are the ugliest thing I’ve seen in my life, you do not deserve to be in this girl band. You deserve to die’.” It was a devastating blow to Jesy who, up until the barrage of insults and hate started during her time on X Factor, hadn’t had any problems with her body image.

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Schreiber High School Wednesday, September 30, 1987 ZANETTI TAKES CHARGE Board Names Guidance Head as Acting Principal by Dave Weintraub When Dr. Frank Banta, Schreiber's principal for eight years, departed at the end (rf the last school year for a different job, he left some large shoes to fill. The school board and Superintendent Dr. William Heebink set out on a search for a new principal over the summer. Many applicants were reviewed, but no one was picked. The board and Dr. Heebink decided to extend the search through the 1987-88 school year. To fill the void Dr. Banta had left, they asked John Zanetti, Chairman of the Guidance Department, to serve as acting principal. He accepted, and was given a ten-month contract, which began in September. Most people who know Mr. Zanetti know him as a soft- spoken and amiable man. He has been in the Port Washington school system for many years, and he had humble beginnings. He started work at Salem School as a physical education teacher in 1958. He stayed there for six years and during that time in- troduced wrestling and lacrosse to the high school. He became the first coach of those teams. After Salem, he taught physical educa- tion at Schreiber for two years. He became a guidance counselor in 1967. He was appointed guidance chairman in 1980. Following his departure from Boyzone, Mr Keating established himself as a successful solo artist with significant global success. 3.     GLENN TILBROOK Mention Glenn Tilbrook and most people may immediately think of Squeeze. After all, with his writing partner Chris Difford, Tilbrook was responsible for Top Ten hits all around the world such as “Tempted”, “Hourglass”, “Cool For Cats” and “Up The Junction”. Ever since their first EP in 1977, Squeeze has delighted audiences with their brand of honky-tonk new wave and pithy lyricism, while their stock in the music world has seen the likes of Jools Hol- land, Paul Carrack and Elvis Costello all contribute to their work. However, since an acrimonious split in 1998 Squeeze has been on the backburner. Although you might forgive him for resting on his laurels after 13 albums and countless tours all over the world, Tilbrook has continued to write and perform with the same enthusiasm that he brought to Squeeze’s earliest recordings. With his two solo albums, “The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook” and “Transatlantic Ping-Pong”, he proved he’s lost none of the joie-de-vivre that became Squeeze’s trademark. For 2009’s album “Pandemonium Ensues”, he injected some fresh faces by recruiting new band The Fluffers and some prestigious guests in the shape of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. This has been complemented by a conversational live show that is delightfully shambling in its approach – Tilbrook loves blurring the bound- ary between crowd and performer by performing requests and even taking his audience for walkabouts to set up impromptu gigs! Although a Squeeze reunion had always looked unlikely, Tilbrook and Difford’s paths slowly began to cross with more frequency, leading to a series of low-key gigs together in 2007.
