Fort to Fort Biking Sample Inerary Fort Augustus to Banavie (Tues ‐ Fri) Our Fort Augustus to Fort William biking mini cruise introduces you to the rich Ness Fort Augustus diversity of the Great Glen. We will follow parts of the Sustrans Naonal Cycle Loch Route “The Caledonian Way” and also bike through the quiet roads of villages and towns to wide open routes beside the canals and lochs. On each of the four days as you travel on your bike you will observe some of the lesser known parts of the Glen. The barge, your accommodaon, moves with you through the Glen each day. Cullochy Locks Day 1 Aer welcoming you aboard at the top of the canal locks at Fort Augustus, a towpath cycle will be offered, taking you to the old Franciscan Abbey, the site of where the now destroyed fort once Invergarry Castle was and gave the town its name. We then return to the canal and Oich follow the towpath to Cullochy Locks, where the barge will cruise to Loch and stay for the night. Cycle Distance: 6 miles Day 2 Your first full day aboard will begin with a short 2‐mile cruise, walk or Laggan Locks cycle to the very picturesque Loch Oich, where the barge will drop anchor next to Invergarry Castle and stay unl the aernoon. We then have the opon of a longer cycle following the River Garry up Glen Garry leading to quiet roads and forestry tracks. Lunch can be taken at any scenic point, before crossing over Loch Garry and returning to the barge which will have moved on to Laggan locks for the night. Alternavely, there are plenty of shorter walks and cycles available in the castle grounds and beyond. Cycle Distance: 20 miles Day 3 From Laggan our barge heads out onto the wonderful Loch Lochy. A Lochy half day cycle is a great choice for the morning, passing through Loch some farmland before heading into the forest along the shores of the loch. We return to the barge for lunch and in the aernoon a short ride away, takes us to Loch Arkaig and Achnacarry Estate, the home of Clan Cameron of Loch Eil. To reach there we take a short detour through the extraordinary “Dark Mile”. This deeply wooded secon of road is flanked by walls and trees carrying a tremendous thickness Gairlochy of moss. At its far end are the spectacular Cia‐aig waterfalls which tumble into the ‘witches pool’ right by the road. Beyond the waterfalls the road straightens before emerging at Loch Arkaig itself We then return to the shore and follow the quiet country road to Gairlochy where the barge will be waing. Cycle distance: 14 miles Day 4 The final morning’s cycle will follow the canal towpath, heading all the way to end of the canal where it meets Loch Linnhe at Corpach Sea Ben Nevis Lock then returning to the barge in me for tea and coffee, before Banavie departures at 11am.
