Abstract: The insecticidal activities of essential oils obtained from black pepper, eucalyptus, rose- mary, and tea tree and their binary combinations were investigated against the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Aphididae: Hemiptera), under laboratory and glasshouse conditions. All the tested essential oils significantly reduced and controlled the green peach aphid population and caused higher mortality. In this study, black pepper and tea tree pure essential oils were found to be an effective insecticide, with 80% mortality when used through contact application. However, for combinations of essential oils from black pepper + tea tree (BT) and rosemary + tea tree (RT) tested Citation: Ahmed, Q.; Agarwal, M.; as contact treatment, the mortality was 98.33%. The essential oil combinations exhibited synergistic Al-Obaidi, R.; Wang, P.; Ren, Y. and additive interactions for insecticidal activities. The combination of black pepper + tea tree, Evaluation of Aphicidal Effect of eucalyptus + tea tree (ET), and tea tree + rosemary showed enhanced activity, with synergy rates Essential Oils and Their Synergistic of 3.24, 2.65, and 2.74, respectively.

D.* Department of Biochemistry, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi Bangalore University, Bangalore - 560001, India. Accepted 17 June, 2011 The continued demand for edible oils by the ever increasing population makes it pertinent to explore new sources. In this direction, two new edible oils namely palm oil and rice bran oil have been subjected to nutritional and toxicological evaluations of their chemicals constituents. An attempt has been made in this article to assess the acceptability of the two oils based on the various investigations that have been carried out so far. Key words: Palm oil, rice bran oil, anti-oxidants, cholesterol fatty acids, phospholipids, tocopherols, oryzanol, cardiovascular diseases. INTRODUCTION Vegetable oils are the main source of dietary fat for Among the oils under consideration, palm oil and rice almost all sections of the Indian population and there is a bran oil offer great scope in India, as they are widely continued growing demand from both caterers and con- preferred by the vanaspathi industries and also by the sumers. Although the Indian population has a penchant Indian consumer. The oil palm gives higher yields in for a variety of deep fried products, there is also a greater comparison with other oil yielding species. Rice bran oil awareness of the problems such as atherosclerosis also offers high potential, as India has high rice caused by saturated fats.

  • Eucalyptol (1,8 Cineole) from Eucalyptus As COVID-19 Mpro Inhibitor
Preprints (www.preprints.org) | NOT PEER-REVIEWED | Posted: 31 March 2020 doi:10.20944/preprints202003.0455.v1 Eucalyptol (1,8 cineole) from eucalyptus as COVID-19 Mpro inhibitor. However, essential oil a potential inhibitor of further research is necessary to investigate COVID 19 corona virus infection by their potential medicinal use. Molecular docking studies Arun Dev Sharma* and Inderjeet Kaur Keywords: COVID-19, Essential oil, Eucalyptol, Molecular docking PG dept of Biotechnology, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar *Corresponding author, e mail: [email protected] Graphical abstract Abstract Background: COVID-19, a member of corona virus family is spreading its tentacles across the world due to lack of drugs at present. Associated with its infection are cough, fever and respiratory problems causes more than 15% mortality worldwide. It is caused by a positive, single stranded RNA virus from the enveloped coronaviruse family. However, the main viral proteinase (Mpro/3CLpro) has recently been regarded as a suitable target for drug design against SARS infection due to its vital role in polyproteins processing necessary for coronavirus reproduction. Objectives: The present in silico study was designed to evaluate the effect of Eucalyptol (1,8 cineole), a essential oil component from eucalyptus oil, on Mpro by docking study. Methods: In the present study, molecular docking studies were conducted by using 1- click dock and swiss dock tools. Protein interaction mode was calculated by Protein Interactions Calculator. Results: The calculated parameters such as RMSD, binding energy, and binding site similarity indicated effective binding of eucalyptol to COVID-19 proteinase. Active site prediction further validated the role of active site residues in ligand binding.

  • Nutraceutical Potentialities of Tunisian Argan Oil Based on Its
Hanana et al. Lipids in Health and Disease (2018) 17:138 https://doi.org/10.1186/s12944-018-0782-9 RESEARCH Open Access Nutraceutical potentialities of Tunisian Argan oil based on its physicochemical properties and fatty acid content as assessed through Bayesian network analyses Mohsen Hanana1, Hajer Mezghenni2, Rayda Ben Ayed3*, Ali Ben Dhiab4, Slim Jarradi5, Bassem Jamoussi6 and Lamia Hamrouni2 Abstract Background: Argan oil is traditionally produced by cold pressing in South-western Morocco where rural population uses it as edible oil as well as for its therapeutic properties which give them in counterpart valuable income. Given the economical interest of this oil, several attempts of fraudulency have been registered in the world global market leading to loss of authenticity. Our purpose is to launch a program of Tunisian Argan oil valorization since trees from this species have been introduced sixty years ago in Tunisia. The first step was thus to characterize the physicochemical properties and determine the chemical composition of Tunisian Argan oil in order to assess its quality. Methods: Physicochemical parameters of oil quality were determined according to the international standard protocols. Fatty acid content analysis of Argan oils was performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrophotometry. A comparative study was realized among Tunisian, Moroccan and Algerian samples differing also by their extraction procedure. The impact of geographical localisation on the fatty acids composition was studied by statistical and modeling Bayesian analyses. Results: Physicochemical parameters analysis showed interestingly that Tunisian Argan oil could be classified as extra virgin oil. Argan oil is mainly composed by unsaturated fatty acids (80%), mainly oleic and linoleic acid (linoleic acid was positively influenced by the geographical localization (r =0.899,p = 0.038) and the P/S index (r =0.987,p =0.002)) followed by saturated fatty acids (20%) with other beneficial compounds from the unsaponifiable fraction like polyphenols and carotenoids.

  • List of Legumes
Healthy Oils & SmokePoints When it comes to the cooking oil in your cupboard, there is a huge difference in healthfulness depending on how the oil is stored and how it will be used. First let’s get some definitions for commonly used terms on labels and discussions about oils. Term Definition Cold Pressed Extracted without using heat. Extracted using a screw-type machine that presses the oil out. Can be done Expeller Pressed slowly, with very little heat, or can be done quickly with lots of friction and high temperatures. The first cold pressing which contains the best tasting and most healthful oils. Must contain less than 1% acids. By definition, this is cold-pressed and first Extra Virgin pressed, so don’t need to see these terms on the label. Must say 100% extra virgin, or may be a blend. The first cold pressing, but can contain a little more acids than the extra-virgin Virgin (1-3 percent). Seeds that have been genetically manipulated to decrease the amount of High Oleic essential fatty acids so that they have a longer shelf life. Are left in their state after pressing – no filtering. These oils tend to be more Unrefined Oils flavorful and richer in nutrients, however they have a very low smoke point. Oils have their impurities filtered out, to increase stability and allow for higher Refined temperature cooking. The processing can use toxic solvents, caustic soda, bleaches and phosphoric acid. Smoke Point Stage at which a heated oil begins to smoke, just before it bursts into flames.
