WBT-AM and other 50,000-watt AMs that have been around since the early 1920s have 2016-03-01 15:07:55 Ted Nelson 27103 earned a strong signal that should be left intact. The small AMs may obtain low-power FM, HD status or low-power AM on some channels. But the long-established AMs must maintain clear-channel status. I love listening to distant AM at night.

FCC is not protecting full power stations due to interference from LPFMs and translators. I listen to WBT on 99.3 and 107.9-HD2 in Greenville, SC with rabbit ears. But WLNK no longer has a strong, clear signal due to interference from WXRU-LPFM on 107.9. They have pointed their antenna towards Greenville rather than Piedmont and Anderson, SC as authorized. Please file a protest with FCC to move WXRU to another channel or point their antenna souhwest of Greenville. I can still get WLNK including HD on my home receiver, but car reception is now wiped out, whereas WLNK always had 2016-03-07 16:44:23 William Nolan 29607 clear signal in Greenville, SC for years. Perhaps also remove your antenna null to the west, as it was better before the change in 2005. Still get 95.1 and 96.1. Also get 99.3 including HD with rabbit ears on Sony HD radio in the house, but not the car because of station in Georgia. Before WXRU problem, WLNK HD signal would lock in the car. As for 11.10-AM, I agree your long distance nighttime signal should be protected and hope this proposal will be overturned. But please protest FCC to block WXRU interference in Greenville, SC, as your long distant 107.9 signal should be protected. FCC coverage maps show extended contour of WLNK reaches Greenville County, so WXRU-LP should not have been allowed past Anderson.

I have been listening to WBT radio for over 50 years. During that time, I have traveled extensively on business and pleasure throughout the east coast and have appreciated its reach and programming. With an upcoming move to , I am even more interested in WBT's retaining its clear channel status. Given the growth of Internet and satellite broadcasting in recent years, there are more options available for those in populated areas, but those in more rural areas depend on these stations for their radio coverage.

Many times I travel late night long distance and rely on AM stations such as WBT and other clear channel radio stations for entertainment and news. If this is rule is allowed to pass will only add more clutter to an already congested band. Sometimes, I listen to KFAB ...BUT, the Omaha signals is not always good. I'm not into / coast 2 coast am and ... they are a little out there. UFO's and, all that. I like RED EYE RADIO OVERNIGHT WITH THE BOYS... WHO LOVE TRUCKERS AND ARE VERY LOGICAL MINDED. THINK ABOUT THE DISABLED AND HOME BOUND, AND OVER NIGHT TRUCKERS. PLEASE DON'T MESS WITH THE 50,000 WATT RADIO STATIONS. LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE. GOVERNMENT THINKS THEY'LL FIX A FEW MINOR ISSUES, BUT WILL END UP MAKING IT ALL WORST. Nothing against , but the only local station I receive clearly at night is 80 miles away in Jamestown North Dakota. Little news, pre- recorded weather, no talk, no local updates. Ever drive through a blizzard on a remote dark highway in the blowing snow and try to stay alert listening to Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson? Somewhere out there on a cold winter night in the middle of America I hear a live voice each night. That voice gets me home safely. Don't destroy one of the best in the broadcast industry. While I am not able receive KXEL, out here in Montana, we rely on KOA, KSL, KTWO, KOB and KOMA at night to reach rural parts of our region (not just Montana, but Idaho, Wyoming, etc. It is not only enjoyable but is of CRITICAL emergency need to preserve these stations. If the "you know what" hits the fan, all internet connectivity comes to a halt, and we are having a national emergency, these stations will be a lifeline for the country. The same is true in the 50's, 60's, and 70's as is true today. AM radio will become a bigger cesspool of interference than it already is if this clear channel service is not preserved.

WSM, WGN, are stations I listen to often. I strongly believe in good spectrum management and listening to the constant interference on graveyard frequencies (local channels 1240, 1400 khz etc.) is unlistenable. If this were to also happen to clear channel frequencies, it would make for less choice on the dial at night. I'd prefer more daytimers since nightime programming on small local stations tends to be bland automation (programmed via national consultants therefore not unique) or a major syndicated show on multiple spots on the dial anyways. Keeping clear channels clear will give listeners like me whether in the U.S. or elsewhere in more options on the AM dial at night.
