Ilkley Grammar School Admission Arrangements The Academy will admit up to 300 students in Year 7 if sufficient applications are received. All applicants will be admitted if 300 or fewer apply. Where the number of preferences exceeds the number of places available, priority will be given to: 1. Children in public care (looked after children), children adopted from care, and children with statements of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plans where the school is named on the statement / plan. 2. Children resident in the school’s priority admission area* who have an older brother or sister, residing the same address, who are at present in Year 7-10 and who will still be attending the school at the time of admission. (in-area siblings) 3. Other children resident in the school’s priority admission area*. 4. Children resident outside the school’s priority admission area* who have an older brother or sister, attending from the same address, who are at present in Years 7-10 and who will still be attending the school at the time of admission. (out-of-area siblings). 5. Other children resident outside the school’s priority admission area*. *As the school has more than one school priority admission area, criteria 2 and 3 above will apply for the whole of priority one and then for the whole of priority two; if there are remaining unallocated places, criterion 4 will then be considered before criterion 5. When demand exceeds places in any one of the above criteria, the distance between home and school, measured by straight-line from the main entrance of the home to the main entrance to the school building, will be used to decide who is to be given a place; those living nearest being given the available places. A child may be given a place before any other if: They have a significant medical condition and their consultant or paediatrician says that they must go to Ilkley Grammar School; or There are social reasons, supported by a relevant professional, for a child to go to Ilkley Grammar School. For a child to be considered on these grounds, you must send us a supporting letter from the relevant professional by 31 October which must explain why only Ilkley Grammar school can meet the child’s specific needs. Notes 1. The terms ‘sisters’ and ‘brothers’ refer to children who reside with the same family at the same address. Children living with the same family e.g. foster children and stepsisters and brothers are also included. 2. ‘Home address’ refers to the child’s permanent home at the date of admission. Where the child lives with parents with shared responsibility, it is for the parents to determine which address to use when applying for a secondary school. Proximity to school is used as a tie-breaker, those living closest being given priority. Where the offer of places to applicants with equi-distant addresses would lead to oversubscription, the decision of who will be offered the place will be made by random selection. 4. Twins or triplets - where a family of twins or triplets request admission and there is only one place available, it will be for the family to decide whether or not to take up the place for one of their children and appeal for the second or third child in the same group, or to decline their place. 5. Students will not be admitted above the published admission number for the school unless: exceptional circumstances apply as defined in the School Admissions Code, or where additional school places need to be provided, or the student is admitted as part of the ‘fair access protocol’, agreed with all schools in the area. .
