A Sampling of IBM’s Environmental Awards and Recognition 1990 - 2018 The following provides a sampling of awards and recognition IBM has earned since 1990 for its environmental and sustainability leadership. The awards and rankings recognize IBM for a broad range of achievements, from its environmental management system, corporate social responsibility, pollution prevention, recycling and product stewardship to its habitat conservation, stratospheric ozone layer protection, energy conservation and climate protection. They also demonstrate the comprehensive nature of IBM’s environmental programs, and our sustained record of accomplishment. 2018 (through May 2018): • IBM received a 2018 Climate Leadership Award for Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management Goal Achievement from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and The Climate Registry, in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies. The award recognized IBM for attaining its third-generation greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal -- a goal it exceeded four years early. This is the sixth time IBM has been recognized in the award program’s seven-year history. • IBM received a Smart Energy Decisions Innovation Award in the Customer Project awards category for Energy Data Management. This award, in the inaugural year of the program, recognized our internal deployment of IBM’s Smarter Buildings solution, which combines IBM’s real estate management, software and services expertise with analytics to detect faults in building mechanical systems in nearly real time, identifying optimization opportunities and yielding enhanced building performance and efficiency. 2017: • IBM received a 2017 Climate Leadership Award for Organizational Leadership from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and The Climate Registry.

  • 2021 Uci Road World Championships Flander I General Information Bulletin
UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS GENERAL INFORMATION BULLETIN 19-26 SEPTEMBER 2021 2021 UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FLANDER I GENERAL INFORMATION BULLETIN WELCOME TO FLANDERS Exactly 100 years after the very first edition which took place in Copenhagen in Denmark in 1921, the UCI Road World Championships is coming home to the heart of Europe, in the Flanders region of Belgium, from 19 to 26 September 2021. This historical edition will be marked by different celebrations including a gala dinner with former UCI Road World Champions as guests of honour. Bordering the North Sea to the west, Flanders lies between the Netherlands and France. Flanders is the northern, Dutch-speaking region of Belgium and is the gateway to Europe. The main cities are Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges and Leuven. Cycling is an integral part of Flanders’ heritage. With a terrain of winding, narrow and sometimes brutal roads, the ancient cobbles stand testament to the pain, courage and endurance of many of the most hardened cycling champions. Races such as the Tour of Flanders – Ronde van Vlaanderen (one of the five cycling Monuments) and Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields offer a labyrinth of intricate routes that weave between traditional villages and farmland. Flanders’ line between the epic and the ordinary, the mortal and the hero, the dream and the reality, is sometimes as thin as it gets. The region is the territory of the true “Flandriens”: strong and relentless cyclists, who never give up and keep on riding, even in the most inclement of weather conditions. In Flanders, the honorary status of “Flandrien” is only granted to cycling legends such as Eddy Merckx, Johan Museeuw, Tom Boonen or Yvonne Reynders.

  • Record Number of Cities Apply for European Green City Awards
PRESS RELEASE Brussels, 18 November 2019 Growing interest in ‘going green’: record number of cities apply for European green city awards Cities in Europe are increasingly choosing to become more sustainable. 36 cities and towns from 18 European countries are competing for the European Green Capital 2022 and European Green Leaf 2021 Awards. In the 13 years of the initiative’s existence, this is the highest number of cities so far to enter the competition. The Awards showcase cities and citizens successfully responding to urban environment and climate change challenges. This year, the competition attracted entries from all over Europe, in particular from southern and eastern countries. The majority are first-time applicants, with 23 newcomers amongst the 36 entrants. Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said: “We are in an ecological and climate crisis. Cities are on the frontline of climate change and nature loss, and the frontline of how to improve the situation. That is why I am so heartened to see a record number of applicants for European Green Capital and European Green Leaf Awards this year. European cities increasingly understand that by going green they can offer a good quality of life to their citizens and protect their businesses from environmental risks. But the title comes with a great responsibility – a responsibility our network of winners takes very seriously. A winning city is a lifetime, global ambassador for Europe’s environmental leadership. Cities from all over the world, including New York, are now learning from our European cities who are leading the way in environmental transition.” The 18 cities competing for the European Green Capital 2022 Award are: Belgrade (Serbia); Budapest (Hungary); Dijon (France); Gdańsk (Poland); Grenoble (France); Katowice (Poland); Kraków (Poland); Lyon (France); Maribor (Slovenia); Murcia (Spain); Parma (Italy); Pécs (Hungary); Perugia (Italy); Poznań (Poland); Sofia (Bulgaria); Tallinn (Estonia); Turin (Italy); and Zagreb (Croatia).
