Oilers to Host 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion at Rexall Place Fans Oilers to Host 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion at Rexall Place Fans invited to join members of ’84 team for once‐in‐a‐lifetime event Proceeds going to Stollery for Oilers Legacy (Edmonton, AB) August 19, 2014 – The stars have aligned to reunite the entire roster of the 1984 Stanley Cup Champion Edmonton Oilers, one of the greatest teams in the history of the game, on October 10 in Edmonton. During a live video conference today, Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky joined Oilers Entertainment Group Vice‐Chairman Kevin Lowe to announce that the team will host a special celebration to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the historic 1984 Stanley Cup victory. Oilers fans will have the once‐in‐a‐lifetime opportunity to join the entire 1984 Championship team and staff, including Oilers legends Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson and Glen Sather, as they reunite in Edmonton on October 10 to participate in the 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion event, an evening of storytelling and memory sharing at Rexall Place, in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Tickets for the 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion will go on sale to the public Friday, August 22 at 10:00am at edmontonoilers.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. All seating is reserved and priced at $99 per seat plus applicable fees. All ticket fees generated for the event will in turn be donated to the fundraising cause by Ticketmaster. “Winning the first Stanley Cup in 1984 was a huge moment for everyone on the team. We gave everything we had that year and it took a monumental team effort to dethrone the Islanders,” said Wayne Gretzky. “It is going to be amazing to see everyone again, the first time we’ve all been together since 1984. I can’t wait to be in Edmonton and share stories and many great memories with our fans.” The 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion event at Rexall Place will be a magical evening that will relive the greatest moments from the storied 1983‐84 season. There will be multiple musical acts taking the crowd back to that retrospective time when music, sport and daily life were all woven together. Out of the vault will be never‐before‐seen video and stills that will accompany many of the stories being shared live by various members of the team. Special guests, interactive crowd participation and reliving memories in a multimedia display will round out an unforgettable evening. “The 1984 team was the people’s team, Edmonton’s team, and the whole City played a part in making us champions. It was a historic occasion for the City of Edmonton and the National Hockey League,” said Oilers Entertainment Group Vice‐Chairman Kevin Lowe. “It’s only fitting we invite fans back to where the magic happened to celebrate with an evening of intimate storytelling, entertainment and interaction with the team.” In honour of the ’84 team, who laid the foundation for the dynasty that followed, the Edmonton Oilers will create a legacy in the community. Net proceeds from the 1984 Stanley Cup Reunion will be directed to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, specifically for the creation of a new Pediatric Ambulatory Clinic. Coach Ted Nolan said following practice Monday that McCormick is recuperating at home. Nolan called it a good sign, but cautioned there is no timetable for the player's return. McCormick was hospitalized over the weekend after the clot was discovered. He scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss at Tampa Bay on Friday. The Sabres called up forwards Phil Varone and Zac Dalpe from their AHL affiliate in Rochester. Dalpe has yet to play for the Sabres since signing with the team last summer. Varone is back in Buffalo after playing three games last week. Buffalo hosts Detroit on Tuesday night.     Darren Paltrowitz June 25 2018 Hockey Great Kevin Lowe on 40 Years With the NHL And Why He Calls Mexico Home Part-Time Drafted to the NHL's Edmonton Oilers as part of the team's 1979 NHL Entry Draft, Kevin Lowe played 13 full seasons with the Oilers before moving on to the New YorK Rangers. Regarded as one of the three kings of the Oilers 1980s dynasty, alongside Wayne GretzKy and MarK Messier, Lowe won 6 Stanley Cups within his playing career. He also managed to be a seven-time NHL All-Star beyond being the recipient of 1990's King Clancy Memorial Trophy. While a 19-year playing career in the NHL would be enough for most players, Kevin Lowe went on to join the Oilers staff as an assistant coach in 1998. He transitioned into a head coach the following year, and then became the team's general manager in 2000. Still employed by the Oilers, Lowe is currently the Vice Kevin Lowe - NHL All Star, Stanley Cup Winner & Executive Chairman of the Oilers Entertainment Group. Lowe has also been involved with interesting projects over the years outside of hockey. One such project is consulting for Vivo Resorts, an all-suite beachfront resort in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Sticker History This was the second O-Pee-Chee sticker series where the sticker backs were printed on more glossy cardboard stock than the thinner paper backings of the previous 7-8 years. There were 182 physical stickers in this set with 88 of those sharing a number with another sticker. The quality of the cut of the sticker seeemed to improve after they worked out all of the kinks from the 1987 O-Pee-Chee run. For the second year in a row, the traditional sticker package that had to be “ripped” open from their vaccuum package, was replaced by wax type packs that were only previously used to encase hockey cards. The sticker album from this year seemed to be made in abundance, whereas the stickers were a little harder to track down. This was the last year that Wayne Gretzky would appear in an Oilers jersey. O-Pee-Chee distributed these stickers out of London, Ontario in Canada. Sticker Facts The size of each full sticker is 5.4 cm X 7.6 cm (2.13 in X 3 in). There were 48 packages in each wax box which originally retailed for $0.30 CAD per pack. Each package contained 5 stickers. The minimum number of packages needed to make a full set (assuming absolutely no doubles) is 37. The original album ($0.59) cover featured Denis Savard.
