  • Excerpt G: Toward a Comprehensive Theory of Subtle Energies ©2003 Shambhala Publications
Ken Wilber – Excerpt G: Toward A Comprehensive Theory of Subtle Energies ©2003 Shambhala Publications Ken Wilber - Excerpt G: Toward A Comprehensive Theory of Subtle Energies Part I. Introduction: From the Great Chain of Being to Postmodernism in Three Easy Steps The following is an excerpt from the first draft of volume 2 of the Kosmos trilogy, tentatively titled Kosmic Karma (volume 1 of that trilogy was Sex, Ecology, Spirituality). This excerpt suggests a coherent and comprehensive theory of the many approaches to subtle energies, their origin, nature, and development. This particular excerpt comes toward the end of the volume, which means that somebody reading this excerpt will not have the benefit (or the torture) of having read the first part of the book. I will therefore present a brief introduction, followed by an integral approach to subtle energies. The first two excerpts from Kosmic Karma ("An Integral Age at the Leading Edge" and "The Many Ways We Touch") can be found on this site; they explain the general approach itself. "AQAL" (pronounced ah-quil) is short for "all quadrants, all levels, all lines, all states, all types," which is the metatheory of the integral approach, and which will be explained as we go along. Following the background Introduction (Part I), I will outline an "Integral Theory of Subtle Energies" (Part II), and end with a comparison with other theorists (Part IV). Overview Before we look at what modern science has brought to the picture of subtle energies, let's look at what the great wisdom traditions have to tell us.

Christine Vecchio helped me dare to choose the topic, and though at times I despaired at having done so, now that it is finished, I really appreciate her insight. Nicolas Vasquez catalyzed development of the basic form within which the nonverbal experience was finally placed. This was one of the most difficult steps. • 15.) the Subtle System of the Chakras
The subtle system of the chakras by Jacques Vigne, M.D psychiatrist The subtle body is a notion that can be associated concretely with the bodily experience, different from the anatomy strictly speaking. It is important to understand from the start that the physical anatomy and the subtle one are not in opposition but are complementary. Let us begin by examining the meaning of the term chakra (pronounced tchakra in Sanskrit and Hindi). It comes from the same root as the English word circle. The chakra is a typically solar symbol which was developed by both Vaishnavism and Buddhism. Before statues came into use, in ancient times before our era, both Vishnu and Buddha were represented by footprints (often merely small natural depressions in a rock, interpreted as footprints) and by the chakra. Padam, the foot in Sanskrit, also means the path taken by a spiritual master leading us to the level of inner experience we seek. The chakras are levels of rising energy inside us that can be harnessed if we work on opening them up. They are like the footholds used by climbers, and their round shape also evokes the shape of the head, which can explain the very ancient association between the two notions, indicating the upward rush of energy from feet to head. In Buddhism, the dharma, that body of right understanding and ethical teachings that sustains the world − both the inner and outer one − is represented by the dharmachakra, and the teaching which corresponds to it sets the wheel of the dharma in motion, dharmachakra- parivartana symbolized by the gesture of the Buddha of Sarnath, whose name means” Lord of the deer”.

  • Healing Through the Chakras RICHARD LEVITON©1993
Healing Through the Chakras RICHARD LEVITON©1993 Only 15, James Bollton felt depressed enough to kill himself. His parents were divorced, he never saw his father, and his mother worked fulltime to support the family. He was introverted, withdrawn, socially isolated, and cynical; he had few male friends, no male role models, nor had his voice dropped yet. He was bright but uninspired to excel in school and was contemplating quitting; for recreation, he dabbled in psychedelic drugs. One day he drew a picture of a black heart pierced by a sword, dripping blood, against a background of a skull and crossbones, and he wanted to tattoo this on his arm. But when he tried to buy a gun to shoot himself, his mother called a psychotherapist, who then called Patricia Kaminski, co-director of the Californa Flower Essence Society of Nevada City, California, to consult on the case. You wouldn’t think that a flower essence, such an ethereal distillation of plant blossoms, could stave off a potential suicide, but it did; in fact, it changed James’ life completely. “Our basic diagnosis was that James’ heart forces—his heart chakra—were severely closed down, that he was a boy with a lot of pain in his heart,” says Kaminski. “So our primary strategy was to help him open and balance his heart center energy. We find that the heart chakra is critical in flower essence therapy, the balance point between the three upper, more spiritual chakras, and the three lower, more physical energy centers. The heart is the container for human feeling and emotion and in this way it is the key to the human soul, and the energy centers of the soul which are known as chakras.” Kaminski has been using flower essences therapeutically with clients for psychological and spiritual problems since 1978, knowing that the energies of flowers (as potentized extracts) can heal the psyche by accessing its subtle energy and consciousness centers called chakras.

SEVENTH WORLD OF CHAN BUDDHISM BY CHUAN YUAN SHAKYA A complete intermediate-level review of the origins, psychology and practice of Southern School Zen Buddhism COPYRIGHT ©1985, 1996 NAN HUA CHAN BUDDHIST SOCIETY PREFACE This book must be read slowly - I can't emphasize this too much. Please take your time - not just because the style in which it's written is such that if too much is read at one sitting the sentences turn to mush, but because hurrying is so counter-productive. Instead of a gradual, unified expansion, there is just an unsatisfying jumble of parts. Books about religion may be entertaining or not, but they are never novels. It isn't somebody else's life we're reading about. It's our own. Even the historical development of Chan can provide useful lessons if we take the trouble to relate the many tales of trial and error, of mistake and correction, to our own individual lives. If you want to get started with an actual Chan practice, you can follow the instructions given in Chapter 10 as you read the long historical passages of the first section. Likewise, if you want to begin learning Chan psychology, you can also leave-off the history and turn to Chapter 5. I've tried to present a fair account of modern Chinese Chan Buddhism, an account which wouldn't be offensive to those who practice other forms of Buddhism or be rejected as being too unorthodox or "western" by those who practice the many varieties of Chan. I expect complaints.

  • The Spark in the Machine: How the Science of Acupuncture Explains the Mysteries of Western Medicine by Daniel Keown
SPARKS MERIDIANS AND MORE… Thank you to Paul Grilley for recommending The Spark in the Machine: how the science of acupuncture explains the mysteries of western medicine by Daniel Keown. And thank you to Paul again and Sarah Powers for introducing me to the work of Dr Hiroshi Motoyama. These are notes from those two books. I have had my own interesting journey with such ideas and I must admit that my background is that of scepticism and doubt. I first read Theories of the Chakras (by Motoyama) more than ten years ago and found it difficult to understand and discussing concepts that did not have much resonance – if any – with my own beliefs. Ideas and beings change of course over time and a shift to that changing has been the Daniel Keown book which I highly recommend: it might not be beautifully written, but it is informative and resonanted strongly with me. After I had finished that, I went back to Motoyama’s book for a re-reading and this time there was more engagement. May the notes below be of help for you on this journey of exploring and understanding, transforming and connecting. The spark in the machine: how the science of acupuncture explains the mysteries of western medicine by Daniel Keown. He received a medical degree from Manchester University in 1998 and has worked as a registered doctor – in 2008 he completed a degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. “Wikipedia merits fascia with a mere 18 lines; textbooks of medicine ignore it completely, and its only contribution to western medicine is that it sometimes gets inflamed and it sometimes throttle parts of the body… Despite this, every good surgeon respects fascia.
