BYU Going to WCC in 2011 This is BYU’s final year in the MWC since it will join the West Coast Conference next sea- son. Here are a couple of interesting baseball facts on the WCC (BYU has a 44-52-1 record against that league). Pepperdine won the College World Series in 1992. www.byucougars.com 2011 Baseball Bloodlines • Chase Frampton—sister plays softball for Mesa Community College • Alex Hancock—father was a walk-on shortstop briefly for BYU ... uncles were All-American wres- tlers at BYU and Boise State. • Vance Law, head BYU coach—father, Vernon Law, was 1960 Cy Young winner and was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1950-67), brother Veryl Law played basketball at BYU (1974-77) along- side Vance (1975-77), brothers Veldon Law (1975) and Vaughn Law (1979) played baseball for BYU, son Tim Law played baseball at Dixie in 1998, and at BYU in 2001, 2003-2004. Son Andrew Law played with BYU baseball in 2005 prior to a Church mission and played the past three seasons on the team. Son Adam Law was a freshman on last year’s squad and is currently serving a two-year Church mission to Zimbabwe. • Brock Luker—stepfather played for the AAA Richmond Braves. • Dane Nielsen—father, Gifford Nielsen, was an All-American football player at BYU (1975-1977) and played basketball for the Cougars, was a quarterback with the Houston Oilers before becoming a TV broadcaster in Houston, mother, Wendy, was a cheerleader at BYU, older brother, Giff, also played basketball for BYU, grandfather, Stan Nielsen, (1940-41) played basketball for BYU too. • Chunner Nyberg—father, Brent, was a wide receiver with BYU football from 1989-90 and was an All-American at Dixie College. • Ryan Roberts, assistant BYU coach—wife, Angela Roberts, played volleyball at Idaho State and UVSC, sister Allison Roberts played volleyball at the Univ. of Houston, uncle Larry Schenk played baseball for BYU in 1959. • Dillon Robinson—father played basketball for Snow College; brother Darek played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization & was an NCJAA All-American for CSI & Dixie; cousin Courtney plays volleyball for Georgetown; uncles Kurt & Jay Holmstead played basketball & baseball respec- tively for Utah Valley University; grandfather, great grandfather & great uncles played pro baseball. • Blake Torgerson—father, Dave, played for BYU in 1975. • Stephen Wells—maternal great uncle Allie Reynolds pitched for the Cleveland Indians (1942-46) and the New York Yankees (1947-54). • Alex Wolfe— father Jeff played in the California Angels system and grandfather, Larry, played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
