  • CSR in Swedish Football
CSR in Swedish football A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan By: Lina Nilsson 2018-10-09 Supervisors: Marcus Box, Lars Vigerland and Erik Borg Södertörn University | School of Social Sciences Master Thesis 30 Credits Business Administration | Spring term 2018 ABSTRACT The question of companies’ social responsibility taking, called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has been widely debated in research since the 1900s. However, the research connecting CSR to sport was not started until the beginning of the 2000s, meaning that there are still many gaps in sport research that has to be filled. One such gap is research on CSR in a Swedish football context. Accordingly, the purpose of the study was firstly to examine how and why Swedish football clubs – organised as non-profit associations or sports corporations – work with CSR, and secondly whether or not there was a difference in the CSR work of the two organisational forms. A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan was carried out, examining the CSR work – meaning the CSR concept and activities, the motives for engaging in CSR and the role of the stakeholders – in detail. In addition, the CSR actions of all clubs of Allsvenskan were briefly investigated. The findings of the study showed that the four clubs of the multiple case study had focused their CSR concepts in different directions and performed different activities. As a consequence, they had developed different competences and competitive advantages. Furthermore, the findings suggested that the motives for engaging in CSR were a social agenda, pressure from stakeholders and financial motives.

  • Optimal Solutions to Tennis Scoring Systems, Challenge System, Court Surface Allocation and Olympic Games Format
Optimal Solutions to Tennis Scoring Systems, Challenge System, Court Surface Allocation and Olympic Games Format By Tristan Barnett Scoring Systems The fundamental problem with current scoring systems is the deuce game is very “inefficient”. Some games can last for 25 minutes. The 50-40 game where the server has to win 4 points and the receiver has to win 3 points is very “efficient”. At most only 6 points are played in such a game. The number of games played in a set are significantly reduced since there are more breaks of serve. Hence, with the 50-40 game, a ‘long’ advantage final set is highly unlikely. The author has listed all the current scoring systems in table 1 and proposed scoring systems in the second table 2. The author thinks it makes sense to have just the one game structure and the 50-40 game due to its simplicity I feel is best to achieve this goal. All the early sets are tiebreak with a first-to-7 point tiebreak game at 6 games-all. The final set is advantage with a first-to-7 point tiebreak game at 12 games-all. Playing a final advantage set makes sense to keep with tradition. Matches are either 3 or 5 sets. This simplifies the scoring systems to 2. The author published a paper: Barnett T (2012). Analyzing tennis scoring systems: from the origins to today. Journal of Medicine and Science in Tennis 17(2), 68-77. http://strategicgames.com.au/article32.pdf which demonstrates why the deuce game came about and why the 50-40 game could potentially replace it.

LUISS BUSINESS CASES Juventus Football Club: from a soccer to an entertainment company Alessandro Zattoni Luiss University Rumen Pozharliev Luiss University TEACHING CASES 2020 ISBN 978-88-6105-575-9 Introduction The season 2018/19 finishes with a bittersweet flavor. The 20th of April Juventus wins – for the 35th time1 and for the 8th straight - the Italian premier league (Serie A). As the team has knocked out of both the Champions league in the quarterfinals by Ajax and the Italian cup in the eight-fi- nals by Atalanta, it is time for Juventus’ president Andrea Agnelli and the top managers to think about the future. After few weeks of doubts and rumors, the 17th of May Juventus announces that Massimiliano Allegri will not be the coach of the team in the next season. The day after Juventus organizes a highly emotional press meeting with the president and the coach to communicate the decision. After one month, the 16th of June Juventus announces that the new trainer will be Maurizio Sarri, previously coach of Napoli (2015-18) and of Chelsea (2018/19). The new coach – that won the last European League with Chelsea - has a 3-years contract and the ambition to lead the club to new victories. During the Summer, Juventus buys and sells several players, with a net loss of about €90 million (=-181,7+92). Among the new players there are talents like Matthijs de Ligt, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and Danilo. At the same time, some promising players like Cancelo, Kean and Spinazzola leave the team. Juventus’ objective is to continue to win and to launch another assault to the Champions League, but also to further develop the business model and to increase its brand awareness over the world.

First, in March, at the next ordinary UEFA Congress, the terms of six members of the UEFA Executive Committee come to an end, three of whom are not standing for re-election. In addition, the seat that has been vacant since the death of Mathieu Sprengers has to be filled, as do two additional seats, giving the Executive Committee an unprecedented injection of new blood. Then in May, the current club competition cycle concludes. In the UEFA Champions League, it will be the last final to be played on a Wednesday, thereby ending a tradition that dates back to the creation of the competition. In the UEFA Cup, it will be the last final ever under that name before the competition becomes the UEFA Europa League and takes on a brand-new format. This year also heralds the end of an era for the UEFA Women’s Cup, which is set to change format and be linked to the UEFA Champions League, with the finals of the two competitions to take place in future in the same city during the same week.
