Betrachtungen von Verhaltensweisen runden das Bild ab, zeigen aber gleichzeitig die Notwendigkeit für weitere Studien. Abstract: Studies on Pipunculid flies in their natural environment are presented. Certain places are described, which proved to be astonishingly rieh in species. Some remarkable associating insect species are listed. As far as investigated comments on the behaviour of the adult flies are added. Key words: Diptera, Pipunculidae, behaviour, ecology Introduction Pipunculid flies are rather small mostly black insects, developing as parasitoids inside leafhoppers, with the ability of hovering (relationship to Syrphidae) and with enormous compound eyes, useful for males in search for females, and for females in search for a potential victim, a cicad larva. Most specimen of Pipunculidae studied so far were collected by Malaise traps. This material allows to describe the existing species, to secure their systematical stand, and to mark their distribution. Many questions in this chapter are still open. On the other hand the development as parasitoids in leafhoppers show fascinating aspects of adaptations to this life and even has an ecological/economical content regarding pest control. -

Gagarina 9: Poland e-mail: ulrichw @ cc.uni.torun.pl 'I'HE HYMENOPTERA OF A DRY MEADOW ON LIMESTONE: SPECIES COMPOSITION, ABUNDANCE AND BIOMASS ABSTRACT: In 1986 and 1988 the hymenopterous fauna of a semixerophytic meadow on lime stone near Gottingen (FRG) was studied using ground-photo-eclectors. A total of 4982 specimens be longing to 475 different species \vere collected. Extrapolations from double-log functions revealed that there may be as many as 1330 parasitoid species present per year. 455 of the 475 species were parasito ids. 155 of them attack dipterans. 48 lepidopterans. 36 beetles. 23 wasps, 22 plant hoppers and 13 ap hids. 47 of the species are egg-parasitoids and parasitoids of miners. ectophytophages count for 44 of 2 the \V asp species. The abundance of the wasp fauna was rather high ( 1120 ± 53 in d. m- a- I ( 1986) and 2 1 335 ± 42 ind. m - a- ( 1988). Most abundant were the parasitoids of miners, gall-makers and the egg parasitoids. Compared \vith the high abundance the biomass was low. In 1986 the wasps weighed a total 2 1 2 1 of 194 ± 24 n1gDW m- a- and in 1988 only 69 ± 20 mgDW m- a- . The parasitoids of ectophytopha gous lepidopterans and coleopterans counted for n1ore than half of the whole biomass. The River Basin Districts Typology, Standards and Groundwater threshold values (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Directions 2009 The Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers, with the agreement of the Secretary of State to the extent that there is any effect in England or those parts of Wales that are within the catchment areas of the rivers Dee, Wye and Severn, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 40(2) of the Environment Act 1995(a) and now vested in them(b), and having consulted the Environment Agency, hereby give the following Directions to the Environment Agency for the implementation of Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy(c): Citation and commencement and extent 1.—(1) These Directions may be cited as the River Basin Districts Typology, Standards and Groundwater threshold values (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Direction 2009 and shall come into force on 22nd December 2009. Interpretation 2.—(1) In these Directions— ―the Agency‖ means the Environment Agency; ―the Groundwater Directive‖ means Directive 2006/118/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of groundwater against pollution and deterioration(d); ―the Priority Substances Directive‖ means Directive 2008/105/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on environmental quality standards in the field of water policy(e); ―threshold value‖ has the same meaning as in the Groundwater Directive; and ―the Directive‖ means Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23rd October 2000 establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy. -

Charles Copp's paper could well provide a sound basis for discussions at the forthcoming seminar at Leicester. The contribution from Keith Francis resulted from a very interesting meeting on biological recording at Oxford County Museum under the AMSSEE flag. It is hoped that the editors may be able to include some contributions from other speakers at this meeting in a future issue. We have had our article in its finished state for over two years as an emergency reserve and now seemed like a useful time to publish it. It has been heavily biased towards biological recording of late, but that is the subject which members seem most eloquent about. -

Currently, only two genera are regarded as valid: Abia Leach, 1817 and Allabia Semenov & Gussakovskij, 1937. We evaluate the generic classifi cation of Abiinae in a phylogenetic context. A total of 32 species (out of 57 described for the subfamily), including the type species of Allabia, Allabia infernalis (Semenov, 1896), are scored for 150 adult morphological characters. -
Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) in the Northeast of the Czech Republic with Special Regard to Spruce Forests

Holuša Department of Forest Protection and Entomology, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Prague, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: Sawflies were collected in the northeast of the Czech Republic using Townes type Malaise traps. Traps were placed in eleven young Norway spruce (Picea abies) forests during the period from 1998 to 1999. Localities cover altitudes from 230 to 1,000 m a.s.l. In total, 285 species of Symphyta have been recently known from the study area (Xyelidae – 1, Pamphiliidae – 7, Argidae – 10, Cimbicidae – 3, Diprionidae – 5, Tenthredinidae – 252, Siricidae – 1, Xiphydriidae – 1, Cephidae – 5). The majority of the species have large distributional ranges and their host plants are forest tree species. Most of the sawflies were obtained from Malaise traps located in the young spruce stands, and therefore the silvicolous species prevail. Neodineura arquata represents a new genus and species and Heptamelus dahlbomi a new species for the fauna of the Czech Republic. Nine species have been classified as endangered and twenty-one species have been classified as vulnerable. Pristiphora robusta has been deleted from the list. A baseline ecosystem services assessment of the Sheffield Lakeland landscape Author: Dr Alison Holt Reviewed by: Dr Jim Rouquette Natural Capital Solutions Ltd Contact details: www.naturalcapitalsolutions.co.uk [email protected] Tel: 07973 332758 Report prepared for: Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust January 2018 Executive summary The Sheffield Lakeland area lies between the western edge of the city of Sheffield, and the moorland slopes of the Peak District National Park. It encompasses the watersheds of Sheffield’s main rivers, including eight reservoirs that provide drinking water to surrounding areas and beyond. It is also an area important for the conservation of biodiversity with nationally and internationally important habitats and species. The area has a rich cultural heritage and many visitors are drawn to the recreational opportunities and aesthetic experiences that the area offers. The Sheffield Lakeland is also a place where people live and supports livelihoods associated with the land, for example farming and grouse moor management. These activities sit alongside the other values placed on the landscape outlined above, and create challenges for the sustainable management of the area. Declining biodiversity, habitat degradation, diffuse pollution, rising recreational numbers and flooding are increasing pressures. This project uses a natural capital approach to assess the ecosystem services provided by the Sheffield Lakeland area. This will serve as a baseline by which to compare the success of the Sheffield Lakeland Partnership projects. The first step was to understand the extent of the natural capital assets (habitats) in the area. A qualitative assessment was made of the level of provision of the full range of ecosystem services provided by the Lakeland area.
