CAMPAIGNING FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

Over the course of the last few weeks I have been working with colleagues to make sure pregnant women can take their partners with them into scans. I have had lots of expectant Dads tell me how upset they have been not to be able to support their partners, and I have been asking Health Ministers and the local NHS Trusts to make sure provisions are put in place to enable partners to be there for their babies' scans. I am pleased to see the new support being given to local councils and community groups to help tackle food poverty. Back in June RCS set up the new Community Pantry at School which I visited during half-term. This is a brilliant initiative designed to help families in need with food, recipes and cooking support, giving people the skills they need to be able to cook nutritious meals on a tight budget. During the holidays they have provided courses for families to learn to cook together and this is exactly the sort of initiative that can make a big difference. I want to see Government funds channelled to this sort of practical solution, and was pleased to hear that TVBC had given them a grant of £30,000 at half term.

There is a wide range of support available in our community, both from local councils and the voluntary sector. Please find some useful contacts below:
