Guest speaker, Dr. Anthony Padovano, renowned theologian, author and speak- er, will address concerns of the laity who mourn the loss of renewal and expecta- tion promised by Vatican II and now under threat by a traditional hierarchy. The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The registration fee of $25 includes a continental breakfast, lunch and beverage. Scholarships are available. Catholics devoted to the church were energized by Vatican II with the release of rigid, outdated strictures of the past Mass was celebrated in their own language, other faiths were welcomed as partners, ministries were expanded to the poor and disadvantaged and altar girls and women readers were introduced. This opened their minds to endless possibili- ties. Catholics were told they had rights and responsibilities and were encouraged to move forward with the changes of Vatican II. Gradually, what they gained was withdrawn as the traditionalist hierarchy retrenched back to pre-Vatican II practic- es. Only speakers who preach party line are allowed to speak. Groups who lean toward more liberal views are forbidden to assemble on church property. Honors Volunteers Miller is a native of Lewes, Delaware. After a long, rewarding teaching career, she retired in 2004 to pursue and further develop her passion with art. Drawn to shells as a young child, Miller explored fine art through shells early on and that is more than apparent in her creations. Those talents were fine tuned while studying at the University of Delaware where she received a BA and masters in art with a major in printmak- ing. That graphics background is evident in her black and white pen and ink drawings and scratchboards loaded with whimsy, Hal Pilcher much like the artist herself. And Ueven if you do, it’s a long haul in the average boat. But now you can make the trip in about one and a half hours aboard the Sanibel Thriller, a beautiful, new, fast, safe, diesel powered 55-foot motor yacht. It’s the best way to complete your The Sanibel Thriller being chased by dolphins island experience and get the true feeling of our beautiful islands and their unspoiled beaches. This supercatamaran with twin 440 hp Yanmar engines can hold up to 43 passengers. It’s piloted by a USCG-licensed Merchant Marine officer. It’s a smooth ride, I’m told, and you’re unlikely to get wet except on really windy days. You will cruise the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, circling Sanibel and Captiva. It’s a narrated tour and the bonus is that dolphins seem to like the sound of the engines and will follow in its wake. So take your cameras and sunscreen and get ready to be thrilled. Price is $38 for adults, $25 for children age three to 12. The Sanibel Thriller also offers a trip to Boca Grande, where you can go to the beaches, go shelling, shopping, have lunch, or explore. Sanibel and Captiva’s only high speed tour boat departs from Sanibel Marina, Take a free demo in these or several other kayak models at Port Sanibel Marina home of Gramma Dot’s Seaside Saloon, 634 North Yachtsman Drive, Sanibel. Bekele spent his younger years crawling around, extreme- growth and strength of his bones. Bekele was given milk. Eventually he, his brother and sister, became “house kids,” living in a barn-like building with the children of Project Mercy workers. His father was given a job in the compound. By the time I arrived in Yetebon, Bekele was a strapping R 8th grade student – a guy who could run the field all day, and even knew how to pass the ball, be it a soccer ball with his feet, or a basketball with his hands! Bekele finished 10th grade. During his school days, he attended church, and gave his life to Christ. His body was healed, and he was blessed physically. And he knew who was the ultimate provider, his Heavenly Father. Not a top student, he did not pass the test for college preparatory after 10th grade. But, he scored high enough to get into nursing school. Next year, he’ll graduate. He will return to the mountainous coun- tryside to be a community health care worker, helping his people physically, but also !"" sharing his own story of hope, peace, and eternal life found through Jesus Christ.
