ABOUT FACE A FRIDGE Face a Fridge is an art event initiated by Grundig that will take place 2 - 7 September 2016 at the historic East Side Gallery. Every day between 10am and 10pm, Thierry Noir, the legendary and internationally renowned wall and street artist, will move into his pop-up atelier especially designed for this event: an upcycled ship container standing on stilts directly at the landing stage of Mercedes- Benz Arena and right next to the River Spree. There, in close proximity to the brightly colourful large- sized heads of his which adorn what is left of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery and brought him international acclaim, he will paint 20 double-door Grundig refrigerators before they eyes of the visitors. The result will be real Noirs, originating with their completely own interpretation of the “Food for Soul” concept which Grundig supports. As a follow-up, these cool-jewels will be auctioned on behalf of the cultural association “Food for Soul”, founded by Massimo Bottura. During the SIGNATURE HOUR, which will run from 5 – 7 September 2016, everyone may bring their own Grundig appliances to the pop-up atelier between 6pm – 10pm and collect their own unique and artistically priceless signature painting by Thierry Noir. ABOUT THIERRY NOIR Thierry Noir was born in 1958 in Lyon, France, and came in 1982 with two suitcases to Berlin - lured by the then living here musicians David Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. ABOUT FOOD FOUR SOUL Food for Soul is a cultural association founded by chef Massimo Bottura, the communities encouraged to act in the interests of social inclusion and individual well-being against food waste. During the Expo 2015 in Milan, the association established in an abandoned theater, the soup kitchen Refettorio Ambrosiano and brought together more than 60 top international chefs to cook meals from the remains of the World Expo. Refettorio Ambrosiano is open still and is now run by Caritas Ambrosiana. In May 2016 Food for Soul began a collaboration with Antoniano Onlus to promote Mensa Padre Ernesto, a soup kitchen in Bologna.
