Abstract Parents remain influential emotion socialization (ES) agents for their adolescents, with parents’ supportive and unsupportive ES associated with youths’ adaptive and maladaptive social outcomes, respectively (Buckholdt, Kitzmann, & Cohen, 2014). However, less research has examined how adolescents’ ES behaviors towards their close friends may mediate these links. Thus, the current study examines whether maternal ES relates to adolescents’ social outcomes (e.g., overt and relational victimization, bullying, friendship quality, receipt of prosocial behavior) through adolescents’ ES behaviors towards their friends. Participants were 158 middle- school age youth (Mage = 12.67 years; 59.5% girls; 78.5% Caucasian; from mostly upper-middle class families) who participated with their mothers and a same-sex close friend. Maternal ES was measured via mother-report, peer ES was assessed through friend-report of expected ES responses from their friend (the parent’s child), and adolescents’ social experiences was measured through adolescent self-report.

    John Martin September 26, 2017 interviewed by Jane Meyers for San Diego State University 01:54:38 hrs:min:sec of recording Transcribed by Jardee Transcription Meyers: Today is Tuesday, September 26, 2017. I am Jane Meyers, and today I will be recording the oral history of John Martin, eminent alumnus of San Diego State University, Class of 1960. This oral history for the SDSU Special Collections and University Archives is funded by the Jane and John Adams Humanities Grant. John was born in New York City, grew up in San Diego, and graduated from Saint Augustin High School. While at San Diego State, he majored in journalism, became a reporter for The Aztec, and then the managing editor. After graduating, he served in the Army, where he worked at night as copy editor for The Augusta Chronicle; then reporter for the Army publication, Rome [phonetic] Interview, and became editor of the Army weekly, The Jayhawk. During his time in the Army, he reported on the Kennedy assassination in 1963. After John completed his military service, he worked in Paris for The New York Times, and in Spain where he wrote a travel guide. Returning to the United States, John worked from 1966 to 1975 as a correspondent for KRCA News in Sacramento. From 1975 until 2002, he worked for ABC News, where he soon showed his reporting and writing expertise as a national and international correspondent, working with David Brinkley, Ted Koppel, and Peter Jennings. In 1983 he successfully uncovered the story of notorious Nazi fugitive, Klaus Barbie. As we celebrate 15 years of helping children and families affected by grief and addiction, we know that the need for our services is greater than ever. Support from steadfast partners such as New York Life and Indivior has enabled us to strategically expand our outreach each year. For the first time in the Foundation’s history, in 2015 Children who live with an both Camp Erin and Camp Mariposa adult struggling with expanded to the same location addiction are simultaneously as we launched in the state of Louisiana. Camp Erin also 4 X more likely added another international location to develop an in Eastern Ontario, Canada and Camp Mary FitzGerald (2nd from R) at the inaugural Camp Erin South addiction of their own. Mariposa expanded to our nation’s Louisiana, with volunteers and staff from capital, Washington, D.C. New York Life and Baton Rouge Cancer Services. We are also pleased to announce that the Department of Justice awarded us a $2 million multi-year grant to fund existing Camp Mariposa locations and support expansion to new locations with added mentoring and family support services. As a result of your efforts, Camp Erin remains the largest network of bereavement camps for children ages 6-17 and was offered to families in 46 locations in 2015 reaching over 3,000 grieving children and teens.
