Wbo Middleweight Champ Saunders Says Smith V Williams Is Too Close to Call! WBO MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP SAUNDERS SAYS SMITH V WILLIAMS IS TOO CLOSE TO CALL! Undefeated WBO Middleweight boss Billy Joe Saunders says Liam Smith’s mouth-watering showdown with British Super- Welterweight Champion Liam Williams is just too close to call. The long-term rivals lock horns at the Manchester Arena on Saturday 8th April, live on BT Sport and BoxNation. Hatfield star Saunders has been involved in a few 50-50 scraps over the years, most notably his unforgettable World Title triumph over Irish knockout king Andy Lee in 2015, and believes Smith versus Williams will be even closer. He said: “This is a real 50-50 fight. Liam Smith knows his distance and works inside very well. He’s the rightful favourite going in. He’s operated at a higher level and has more fights, more experience. “But if ‘Beefy’ underestimates Liam Williams in any way, he’s likely to come unstuck. That Welsh boy is a very dangerous fighter, on a good run, brimming with confidence. He’s got an excellent coach in Gary Lockett and they’re sure to come up with a top game plan. “Seriously, if you gave me a pound to bet, I’d put 50p on both of them!” WATCH THE EPIC LIAM SMITH VS. LIAM WILLIAMS PROMO NOW! Smith vs. Williams is part of an unmissable evening of boxing headlined by Terry Flanagan defending his WBO World Lightweight Title against tough Petr Petrov; slick South African Zolani Tete faces Arthur Villanueva in a final eliminator for the WBO World Bantamweight strap; double Olympic Gold Medallist and women’s boxing icon Nicola Adams OBE fights for the first time as a professional and former Team GB Heavyweight monster Daniel Dubois makes his highly- anticipated professional debut along with a talent packed undercard. Saturday night, Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine showed up the both of them in his own bid for consideration. In retaining his WBA world junior lightweight title, Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) thoroughly dominated Nicholas Walters of Jamaica (26-1-1, 21 KOs). So thoroughly, Walters quit on in the corner after the seventh round in a “no mas” moment rather than let fans continue to see the beatdown. Lomachenko didn’t pound Walters. He didn’t have to. Lomachenko’s skills are all so on point, he made Walters, an undefeated boxer who himself beat 2012 Fighter of the Year Nonito Donaire in his own dominant performance, look merely average. After an especially dominating seventh round in which it looked like Lomachenko had decided he was bored and started moving in on Walters to end the fight, Walters told referee Tony Weeks in the corner he didn’t want to continue.

  • The Wbo World Lightweight Championship Terry Flanagan V Orlando Cruz
THE WBO WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TERRY FLANAGAN V ORLANDO CRUZ WBO Lightweight Champion Terry Flanagan (31-0 12 KOs) will make the fourth defence of his World title against Puerto Rico’s former World title challenger Orlando Cruz (25-4-1 13 KOs) on Frank Warren’s huge November 26th Motorpoint Arena Cardiff show, live and exclusive on BoxNation. Welsh fights fans will be treated to an incredible five title fights at the Motorpoint Arena; two World title fights, two British title fights and one European fight. Big time boxing has well and truly returned to Cardiff. When Flanagan stopped American challenger Diego Magdaleno in a hail of punches back in October 2015 during the maiden defence of his WBO World Lightweight title, it had taken the Manchester southpaw under six minutes to prove his world class credentials. Then in March the Steve Maylett trained star retained his WBO crown with a wide points decision over tough as nails Liverpool veteran Derry Mathews in an absorbing arm wrestle of a fight in front of a packed-out Liverpool Echo Arena. Last time out at the Ice Arena Wales Flanagan successfully made the third defence of his World title against the experienced and tricky Mzonke Fana. South Africa’s Fana provided Flanagan with a stern test but the Ancoats man came away with a unanimous decision win. Cruz, 35, fought for Puerto Rico at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and ran undefeated for a full nine years before losing to America’s Cornelius Lock by TKO in 2009. During a glittering career Cruz has held the WBO Latino Featherweight and WBO NABO Super-Featherweight titles.

  • Canelo Alvarez and Liam Smith Meet Face-To-Face at London Press Conference
CANELO ALVAREZ AND LIAM SMITH MEET FACE-TO-FACE AT LONDON PRESS CONFERENCE Liverpool’s WBO Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith came face-to-face with Mexican challenger Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a second time at today’s final stop on the Canelo vs. Smith international press tour. ‘Beefy’ puts it all on the line against pound-for-pound superstar Alvarez at the breath-taking AT&T Stadium on Saturday 17th September, exclusively live in the UK on BoxNation. The undefeated Merseyside hero is looking to make a name for himself across the pond when he defends his WBO World Title for a third time at the home of the world-famous Dallas Cowboys on Mexican Independence Day. “This is a fight I’ve been asking for for 12 months. I jumped at the chance, it’s a chance for me to make a name for myself. “I want to do it against the biggest name in boxing at the moment. Saul Alvarez is the biggest name in boxing. I’m looking forward to pitting my wits against one of the best in the sport,” said the 23-0 star, currently on an eight fight KO streak. “I think a lot of people, will be surprised. I can’t wait until September and making a name for myself up there.” Responding to the US media reaction which has seen him unfairly labelled as a “paper champion”, the 27-year-old said the American press weren’t in a position to comment as he’s never fought Stateside before. “They’ll know in September that they shouldn’t be calling me a paper champion.
