TOP FOUR SEEDS, FOUR AUSTRIANS EYE QUARTER-FINALS

 Day 3: The top four seeds and four Austrians look to reach the quarter-finals on Wednesday at the Generali Open-Kitzbühel. In the first match on Centre Court, Colombian Santiago Giraldo brings a 2-1 head-to-head advantage over German / No. 6 seed . The second match is a first time meeting between Italian / No. 3 seed and Austrian wild card Dennis Novak. Following top seed begins his title quest against countryman Andreas Haider-Maurer. The last match of the day on Centre Court is the sixth meeting between Spaniard Nicolas Almagro and Austrian wild card Jurgen Melzer, who leads 3-2. On Grandstand, Italian / No 2 seed Andreas Seppi looks to extend his head-to-head to 3-0 when he faces Serbian Dusan Lajovic, while Slovakian / No. 4 seed Martin Klizan faces French qualifier Paul-Henri Mathieu on Kuchenmeister. All together there are 11 matches scheduled (8 singles and 3 doubles).

 Thiem Top Seed: For the first time in his career, Dominic Thiem, last year’s Kitzbühel finalist, is the top seed in an ATP World Tour tournament. The 21-year-old Austrian is enjoying the best tennis of his career with a 27-18 match record (18-7 on clay). In May, he captured his maiden ATP World Tour title in Nice. On Sunday, he captured his second ATP World Tour title in as many weeks in Gstaad (d. Goffin). Thiem, who is one of seven players with three or more titles on the ATP World Tour this season, is also the youngest player on titles list:

 Austrians Eye Quarter-finals: Austrians Andreas Haider-Maurer, Jurgen Melzer and Dennis Novak are one win away from reaching the quarter-finals. The 28-year-old Haider-Maurer is looking to reach his fifth ATP World Tour quarter-final of the year. Haider-Maurer, who is ranked No. 58, is playing here for the sixth time (4-5 record) and looking to reach the quarter-finals here for the first time. The 34-year-old Melzer is trying to reach his first ATP World Tour quarteer-final since advancing to the semi-finals in June 2014 at ‘s-Hertogenbosch (d. Verdasco in QF, l. to Bautista Agut). Melzer, who is ranked No. 130, is appearing in Kitzbühel for the 10th time (9-9 record). He was runner-up in 2008 (l. to del Potro). The 21-year-old Novak, who on Monday defeated Aljaz Bedene 67(2) 64 61 for his first career tour-level win, is looking to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final. Overall there are four Austrians in action.

 Italian Seeds: The No. 2 (Andreas Seppi) and No. 3 (Fabio Fognini) seeds are the top two players from Italy. Both are coming off solid results in Hamburg. Fognini reached the final (l. to Nadal) while Seppi was coming off a semi-final (l. to Nadal). Neither have advanced further than the QFs in Kitzbühel. Seppi was a QF in 2007, ’11 and last year.  No. 1 German: Kohlschreiber enters as the No. 1 German on the Emirates ATP Rankings at No. 39. He is one of four Germans ranked in the Top 100 - joined by No. 63 , No. 82 Dustin Brown and No. 96 Alexander Zverev. The 31-year-old enters with a 19-18 (13-8 on clay) match record this year and has reached the quarter-finals or better five times, highlighted by reaching his 12th career ATP World Tour final at Munich (l. to Murray). He is playing here for the 8th time and reached the final in 2012 (l. to Haase).

 Almagro on Clay: Clay is Almagro’s most successful surface - it is the only surface on which he has a winning match record. All 12 of his singles titles have come on clay - most recently at 2012 Nice (d. Brian Baker) - and 256 of his 362 Tour-level victories have also come on the surface (256- 127 career mark on clay).
