  • Illinois a Great Scare Last Season During Their Undefeated Run, So a #8 Ranking Means Nary a Thing in This Environment
The Michigan Full Court Press Volume VII Issue XIX The Official Newsletter of the Maize Rage 21 February 2006 “I like that. Especially after the loss you kind of want to get the taste out of your mouth, so we have to practice tomorrow and get ready to play on Tuesday." – D. Horton, on the importance of bouncing back from a loss It’s always difficult to play a top-10 opponent three days after a rough game against a rival on the road, but our Wolverines have a fine advantage awaiting them this evening: the friendly confines of Crisler Arena and a boisterous Maize Rage. On Saturday, Michigan fell to Michigan State 90-71 in East Lansing. Daniel Horton led the way for Blue with 19 points as one of four double- digit scorers, and Hambone Brown notched six rebounds to add to his team-leading total. The Illini enter Ann Arbor tonight as winners of six of their last eight, including a 70-58 victory over Indiana at home on Sunday. James Augustine’s 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 fouls (matching a career high) led all Illini hoopsters in the win. Don’t forget, Rage; ‘twas the Mighty Wolverine that gave Illinois a great scare last season during their undefeated run, so a #8 ranking means nary a thing in this environment. It is our duty to come out loud and energetic, which can boost Blue to a victory in their attempt to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Here is the projected starting lineup for the Illinois Fighting Illini (22-4, 8-4 Big Ten): 11 Dee Brown 6’0” G While notably adept at shooting and having a quick first step, he's also quite excellent

  • Butler and Ohio State Were Dueling It out in Overtime in Columbus
The Michigan Full Court Press Volume VII Issue IV The Official Newsletter of the Maize Rage 26 November 2005 On the crowd... "They were our sixth man. They really helped us out. If it wasn't for them, I don't know. They really gave Illinois a tough time, and they really pumped us up, so it was great for them to be there." -Courtney Sims, 2/8/05 Maize Ragers, welcome back to Crisler for some post-Thanksgiving Michigan basketball! Today, the Maize and Blue return home from their first road trip of the young season. And it was a successful one, as Lester Abram and Daniel Horton led the Wolverines to a 51-46 victory over our nemesis Boston University. The importance of this win cannot be overlooked – it may have come against a mid-major team that we were supposed to beat, but it is still a big non-conference road win that should boost the team’s confidence. Boston U. could very well end up in the NCAA Tournament when all is said and done. Meanwhile, as Michigan was putting the finishing touches on the Terriers, Butler and Ohio State were dueling it out in overtime in Columbus. Butler ended up falling 79-69 to the Buckeyes, but they showed that they can play with anyone in the Big Ten, even on the road. Let’s be sure to show the team all the support we can today, even though most students are gone on break. Have fun today, enjoy the rest of break, and Go Blue! Here is the projected starting lineup for the Butler Bulldogs (2-2, 0-0 Horizon League): 21 Avery Sheets 6’0” G Mechanical Engineering/Economics double major is a big Seinfeld fan 4 A.J.

  • Ohio State Buckeyes Are in Town for ESPN’S Rivalry Week and Ranked in the Top 20 in Both Polls
The Michigan Full Court Press Volume VII Issue XVI The Official Newsletter of the Maize Rage 9 February 2006 “We have to stay hungry. Our goal wasn’t just to be ranked. Our goal is to win a Big Ten championship.” –Courtney Sims Welcome back, Wolverine faithful, to Crisler Arena! It’s been a long 12 days since we witnessed the Michigan basketball team take down Wisconsin, 85-76, to propel U-M into the national rankings for the first time since 1998. Last week, the Wolverines split road games at Penn State and Iowa. But despite the tough setback in Iowa City on Saturday, an Iowa loss to Northwestern last night means that Michigan can recapture a tie for first place atop the Big Ten standings with a win tonight. The hated Ohio State Buckeyes are in town for ESPN’s Rivalry Week and ranked in the top 20 in both polls. The Bucks are talented and shoot lights out from distance, but they are just another barrier ready to be broken in the road to an 8-0 Big Ten home record. Let’s bring it, Rage! Here is the projected starting lineup for the Ohio State Buckeyes (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten): 14 Jamar Butler 6’1” G Sophomore from Lima was honored as Ohio’s Mr. Basketball in 2004 23 Je’Kel Foster 6’2” G JuCo transfer comes in as co-Big Ten Player of the Week, shooting 10-13 from behind the arc after Buckeye fans criticized him for mid-season slump 0 J.J.
