This phenomenon can be useful in assessing parasitoid efficiency for the biological control of the host. Parasitoid wasps are most important insects and they play a significant role in the natural control of pests via their parasitism activities. In this study, the effects of diazinon and malathion were evaluated on the functional response of Habrobracon hebetor Say to different densi- ties of last instar larvae of Anagasta kuehniella Zeller. Young adult females (< 24 h old) of the parasitoid were exposed to LC30 values of pesticides. Host densities of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 were offered, to treated young females for 24 h in 10 cm Petri dishes. At this point, the parasitism data were recorded. The experiments were conducted in eight replications. The functional response was type Ш in the control and insecticide treatments. Searching efficiency in the control, diazinon and malathion-treated wasps were 0.008±0.002, 0.003±0.002, and 0.004±0.002 h–1, handling times were 1.38±0.1, 7.95±0.91, and 6.4±0.81 h, respectively. -

Introduction Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) is considered a key pest of stone and citrus fruits in several parts of the world. The medfly has became a cosmopolitan species with a wide range of host plants as a result of its great capacity of dispersion, adaptability and high rate of reproduction The life cycle includes four phases that begin with the egg oviposited under the fruit skin. It continues with the larvae developed inside the pulp of the fruit. The larva of third instar falls down to the soil where it buries and becomes pupa. Adults emerge from the pupae in a few days. In the Valencian Community (East coast of Spain) this insect has became an endemic pest since the 30s, what making necessary to take measures of control to avoid the economic losses caused in the citrus sector. -

Insect performance is better on diets that contain nutrients in proportions that fit its diges- tive enzymes. Little is known about the influences of rearing history on parasitism success of Habrobracon hebetor Say. This research focused on the effect of nutrient regulation on survival, development, and parasitism of H. hebetor. Life history and digestive enzyme activity of fourth-stage larvae of H. hebetor were studied when reared on Ephestia kuehniella Zeller. This parasitoid was then introduced to Helicoverpa armigera (Hu¨ bner), and above-mentioned parameters were also studied in the first and fourth generations after transfer. In term of parasitism success, H. hebetor preferred E. kuehniella over He. armigera. When the first and fourth generations of He. armigera-reared H. hebetor were compared, the rearing history affected the life history and enzymatic ac- tivity of the parasitoid. -

It includes 115 species and subspecies in 11 genera (Atanycolus FÖRSTER, Baryproctus ASHMEAD, Bracon FABRICIUS, Coeloides WESMAEL, Glyptomorpha HOLMGREN, Habrobracon ASHMEAD, Iphiaulax FOERSTER, Megalommum SZÉPLIGETI, Pseudovipio SZÉPLIGETI, Rhadinobracon SZÉPLIGETI and Vipio LATREILLE) and four tribes (Aphrastobraconini, Braconini, Coeloidini, Glyptomorphini). Introduction Braconinae is a large subfamily of cyclostomes group of parasitic wasps in the family Braconidae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea). They constitute more than 2900 described species that are mostly tropical and subtropical (YU et al. 2012). Members of this subfamily are often black, red, orange and/or white in colours. They are small to medium-sized insects, characterized by their concave labrum, absence of epicnemial carina, absence of occipital carina, females have extended ovipositor (SHARKEY 1993). -

www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Dodecanol, metabolite of entomopathogenic fungus Conidiobolus coronatus, afects fatty acid composition and cellular immunity of Galleria mellonella and Calliphora vicina Michalina Kazek1*, Agata Kaczmarek1, Anna Katarzyna Wrońska1 & Mieczysława Irena Boguś1,2 One group of promising pest control agents are the entomopathogenic fungi; one such example is Conidiobolus coronatus, which produces a range of metabolites. Our present fndings reveal for the frst time that C. coronatus also produces dodecanol, a compound widely used to make surfactants and pharmaceuticals, and enhance favors in food. The main aim of the study was to determine the infuence of dodecanol on insect defense systems, i.e. cuticular lipid composition and the condition of insect immunocompetent cells; hence, its efect was examined in detail on two species difering in susceptibility to fungal infection: Galleria mellonella and Calliphora vicina. Dodecanol treatment elicited signifcant quantitative and qualitative diferences in cuticular free fatty acid (FFA) profles between the species, based on gas chromatography analysis with mass spectrometry (GC/MS), and had a negative efect on G. mellonella and C. vicina hemocytes and a Sf9 cell line in vitro: after 48 h, almost all the cells were completely disintegrated. The metabolite had a negative efect on the insect defense system, suggesting that it could play an important role during C. coronatus infection. Its high insecticidal activity and lack of toxicity towards vertebrates suggest it could be an efective insecticide. In their natural environment, insects have to cope with a variety of microorganisms, and as such, have developed a complex and efcient defense system. Te frst line of defense is a cuticle formed of several layers, with an epi- cuticle on the outside, a procuticle underneath it and an epidermis beneath that. -

Longevity of H. hebetor females and males were significantly higher on whole wheat flour mixed with glycerol (23.4 ± 1.3 and 15.6 ± 1.2,). ﺗﺤﻘﻴﻘﺎت آﻓﺎت ﮔﻴﺎﻫﻲ 1397 -8 (1): 69-82 ﺑﻬﻴﻨﻪ ﺳﺎزي ﻣﺼﺮف ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ ﻛﻠﺮﭘﺎﻳﺮﻳﻔﻮس ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻫﻨﺪي Plodia interpunctella ، ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﺪﻳﺘﺮاﻧﻪ اي آرد Anagasta kuehniella و ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﻮم ﺧﻮار ﺑﺰرگ Galleria mellonella ﺑﺎ روش ﺳﻄﺢ ﭘﺎﺳﺦ در ﺷﺮاﻳﻂ آزﻣﺎﻳﺸﮕﺎﻫﻲ ﻋﻠﻴﺮﺿﺎ ﺷﻌﺒﺎﻧﻲ ﻧﮋاد1 و ﻣﺮﻳﻢ ﻋﺠﻢ ﺣﺴﻨﻲ1* 1 - داﻧﺸﻜﺪه ﻛﺸﺎورزي، داﻧﺸﮕﺎه ﺻﻨﻌﺘﻲ ﺷﺎﻫﺮود، ﺷﺎﻫﺮود ( ﺗﺎرﻳﺦ درﻳﺎﻓﺖ /8: 11/ 96 ﺗﺎرﻳﺦ ﭘﺬﻳﺮش : 97/3/30) ﭼﻜﻴﺪه ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻫﻨﺪي .Plodia interpunctella H، ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﺪﻳﺘﺮاﻧﻪ اي آرد .Anagasta kuehniella Z و ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﻮم ﺧﻮار ﺑﺰرگ Galleria .mellonella L ا ز آﻓﺎت ﺑﺴﻴﺎر ﻣﻬﻢ ﻣﺤﺼﻮﻻت اﻧﺒﺎري ﻫﺴﺘﻨﺪ ﻛﻪ ﺑﻪ ﻣﻨﻈﻮر ﻛﻨﺘﺮل آنﻫﺎ، ﺑﻪ ﻃﻮر ﻣﻌﻤﻮل از ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶﻫﺎي ﺷﻴﻤﻴﺎﻳﻲ اﺳﺘﻔﺎده ﻣﻲ - ﺷﻮد. اﺳﺘﻔﺎده ﺑﻲ روﻳﻪ از ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶﻫﺎ، ﻣﺸﻜﻼت ﺟﺪي زﻳﺴﺖ ﻣﺤﻴﻄﻲ و ﻫﻤﭽﻨﻴﻦ ﻋﻮارض ﻣﺰﻣﻨﻲ روي ﺳﻼﻣﺖ اﻧﺴﺎن اﻳﺠﺎد ﻣﻲ ﻛﻨﺪ، ﺑﻨﺎﺑﺮاﻳﻦ ﺑﺎ اﻧﺘﺨﺎب اﻟﮕﻮي ﺻﺤﻴﺢ و ﺑﻪ ﻛﺎ رﮔﻴﺮي روش ﻫﺎي ﻣﻨﺎﺳﺐ ﻣﻲ ﺗﻮان ﻣﻴﺰان ﻣﺼﺮف ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ را ﺑﻬﻴﻨﻪ ﻛﺮد. در اﻳﻦ ﭘﮋوﻫﺶ از روش ﺳﻄﺢ ﭘﺎﺳﺦ ﺑﻪ ﻣﻨﻈﻮر ﺗﻌﻴﻴﻦ ﻧﻘﺎط ﺑﻬﻴﻨﻪ ﻣﺼﺮف ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ ﻛﻠﺮﭘﺎﻳﺮﻳﻔﻮس، ﺟﻬﺖ دﺳﺘﻴﺎﺑﻲ ﺑﻪ ﺑﻴﺸﻴﻨﻪ ﻣﺮگ و ﻣﻴﺮ ﺑﺎ ﻛﻤﺘﺮ ﻳﻦ دز ﻣﺼﺮﻓﻲ اﺳﺘﻔﺎده ﺷﺪ و ﺗﺎﺛﻴﺮ دﻣﺎ ( 25-35 درﺟﻪ ﺳﻠﺴﻴﻮس)، رﻃﻮﺑﺖ ( 60-80 %) و د ز ﻣﺼﺮف ( 1400-2000 ﻣﻴﻜﺮوﻟﻴﺘﺮ) ﺑﺮ ﻣﻴﺰان ﻣﺮگ و ﻣﻴﺮ ﻻرو ﺳﻦ ﭘﻨﺠﻢ ﺳﻪ آﻓﺖ ﻣﻬﻢ اﻧﺒﺎري ﻣﻮرد ارزﻳﺎﺑﻲ ﻗﺮار ﮔﺮﻓﺖ. آزﻣﺎﻳﺶ ﻫﺎ ﺑﺮ اﺳﺎس ﻃﺮح ﻣﺮﻛﺐ ﻣﺮﻛﺰي، اﻧﺠﺎم ﺷﺪ. ﺑﻴﺸﻴﻨﻪ ﻣﺮگ و ﻣﻴﺮ ﺑﺎ اﻳﻦ روش، 9/7 ﻋﺪد ﻻرو ﺳﻦ ﭘﻨﺞ ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻫﻨﺪي در ﺷﺮاﻳﻂ دﻣﺎﻳ ﻲ 35 درﺟﻪ ﺳﻠﺴﻴﻮس، رﻃﻮﺑﺖ 80 % و دز 1400 ﻣﻴﻜﺮوﻟﻴﺘﺮ ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ در 1000 ﻣﻴﻠﻲ ﻟﻴﺘﺮ آب، 1/7 ﻋﺪد ﻻرو ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﺪﻳﺘﺮاﻧﻪ اي در دﻣﺎي 35 درﺟﻪ ﺳﻠﺴﻴﻮس، رﻃﻮﺑﺖ 75 % و دز 1400 ﻣﻴﻜﺮوﻟﻴﺘﺮ ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ در 1000 ﻣﻴﻠﻲ ﻟﻴﺘﺮ آب و ﺑﺮاي ﺷﺐ ﭘﺮه ﻣﻮم ﺧﻮار ﺑﺰرگ 7/9 ﻋﺪد ﻻرو ﺳﻦ ﭘﻨﺞ در دﻣﺎي 35 درﺟﻪ ﺳﻠﺴﻴﻮس، رﻃﻮﺑﺖ 80 % و دز ﻣﺼﺮﻓﻲ 1500 ﻣﻴﻜﺮوﻟﻴﺘﺮ ﺣﺸﺮه ﻛﺶ در 1000 ﻣﻴﻠﻲ ﻟﻴﺘﺮ ﺗﻌﻴﻴﻦ ﺷﺪ . -
Monitoring of the Indian Meal Moth and Its Parasitoids in Long-Term
12th International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP) in Berlin, Germany, October 7-11, 2018 favorable and even at unfavorable temperature conditions of June-August. The presence of warm weather wasp-strains may suggest the existence of well-adapted wasp species or strains which may be appropriate candidates for the control of stored product pests. The strains had also been collected in late winter and summer, thus demonstrating activity also during less favorable weather conditions, raising again the possibility of using these egg parasitoids as an inundative biological control agent in stored products. Experiments were carried out by offering eggs of the Indianmeal moth Plodia interpunctella (Hübner), the Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella Zeller, the warehouse moth E. elutella (Hübner), and the almond moth Cadra cautella (Walker) in choice and no-choice assays to a single female parasitoid. Two different choice experiments were used to certify the same conclusion in both methods. The bioassay for host-preference of Trichogramma spp. was carried out by offering a single female wasp the choice between equal numbers of host eggs on square cards “Petri dish tests “and /or strip cards “strip card tests”. In both methods , counting the number of Trichogramma developing in the host eggs (parasitism) show the preference of the wasp for ovipositing and indicated the ability of the parasitoid to develop in these eggs (i.e., host suitability). In Petri dish tests, E. kuehniella was a highly accepted host species for T. bourarachae, T. euproctidis, and T. cacoeciae wasps while E. elutella and C. cautella eggs were more accepted by T. -

We could detect no apparent differences in host hemolymph protein patterns up to 72 h after paralysation and/or parasitization by H. hebetor. A 190 kDa putative apolipophorin I present in host hemolymph could not be detected in the midguts of feeding H. hebetor larvae indicating that it is rapidly digested. The major 60 kDa storage proteins (putative hexamerins) in host hemolymph were detected in the parasitoid midgut and were completely digested 24 h after cessation of feeding and the beginning of cocoon formation. Host hemolymph had a pH of about 6.4. The pH optima of the midgut proteinases in the larval parasitoid were in the alkaline region, but midgut fluid in feeding parasitoid larvae was about pH 6.8. Based on enzyme activity against selected artificial proteinase substrates including azocasein, N-α-benzoyl-L-Arg p-nitroanilide (BApNA), succinyl-Ala-Ala- Pro-Phe p-nitroanilide (SAAPFpNA), succinyl-Ala-Ala-Pro-Leu p-nitroanilide (SAAPLpNA), and inhibition by selected proteinase inhibitors, serine proteinases appear to be the predominant class of enzymes involved in protein digestion in the midguts of H.
