To endeavour for achieving your targets is the pre-requisite for the realisation of your dreams. Law provides a gamut of opportunities, and so does the Raffles School of Law to its students. Working along lines parallel to the requirements for the challenges that lay ahead, the Raffles School of Law has been developing professional expertise and holistic beings for seven years. Besides the regular curriculum, training for positive attitude and aptitudes, communication skills, brain-storming, problem solving and teamwork with genuine espirit de corps make our students globally valued. Sports Committee The Sports Committee is entrusted with the task of enhancing and strengthening the sporting culture in the campus. It plays an active role in students’ participation in competitions and sports fests throughout the country. It is also responsible for conducting various inter as well as intra sports tournaments. Legal Aid Centre The University has setup a separate legal Aid cell named as “Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon Legal Aid Centre” INFRASTRUCTURE which plays an influential role in providing assistance to the people in the state of Rajasthan. Moot Court Eco Friendly Club A place that can be kept at par with what Palaestra is for a wrestler. The University has a well-equipped Moot An Eco-Friendly Club, “Sanrakshak,” is a student initiated club which emphasises healthy and sound court hall with audio visual technology, along with recording facility. It provides the budding lawyers a platform environment along with the realization of the principle of sustainable and regenerative development. Library The Central Library of the University provides the students to an opportunity to imbibe the vast knowledge of law. The main features of the library include subscription to various legal databases and national as well as international journals. It also encompasses collections of multiple authors on various subjects along with various periodicals. Seminar Hall The Seminar Hall of the University is well furnished with modern state-of-the-art infrastructure that is well suited for multiple activities. It is well-equipped with audio visual technology for guest lectures, presentations, and conferences etc. Sports Facilities The Multi-purpose sports facility within the campus is available for the students. The facilities include a sports arena for various sports which are at par with national and international standards. Residence Halls Separate residence halls-cum-hostels for boys and girls with air-conditioned single occupancy rooms are avail- able on the campus. The halls of residence have a common-room each, equipped with cable television, facilities for indoor games and hi-tech security features. Other Facilities Student life in campus is rejuvenated with facilities such as cafeteria, modern gymnasium, and yoga halls etc. A 24x7 health center is also there to fulfill the medical needs. Events 1st C.L. Agrawal Memorial Moot Court Competition The 1st C.L. Agarwal Memorial Moot Court Competition organized by the School of Law, Raffles University, in collaboration with Rajasthan Education Trust from 4th March to 5th March 2017. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Hon’ble Justice Mr. G. S. Singhvi, former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman, Competition Appellate Tribunal. Legal Awareness Camp 2017 By RSLSA, Jaipur On 10th November 2017, Raffles University organized a „Legal Awareness Camps under the patronage of Rajasthan State Legal Service Authority, Jaipur and District State level service authority, Alwar. The chief guest of the function was Hon’ble K.S. Jhaveri, who is an Executive Chairman of RSLSA and a Judge of the Rajasthan Raffles Premier League Season 4 High Court. The opening ceremony was scheduled on 14th November and the Guests of Honour were our Chief patron, Hon’ble Justice Meena V. Gomber and Lt. General Dr. V.K. Ahluwalia. The league continued for 3 days and the final match took place on 16th November 2017.     ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, INDIA Chairperson NHRC F o r e w o r d The National Human Rights Commission is pleased to present to the Parliament and people of India, its twenty-fourth Annual Report for the period from 01 April 2016 to 31 March 2017. 2. The National Human Rights Commission has completed 24 years of its pioneering work in the promotion and protection of human rights since its establishment on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. Since then, the Commission has consistently worked towards bringing a human rights-centered approach in the Government at Central and State levels, as well as towards creating human rights awareness and sensitization amongst public authorities and civil society. Through the years, the Commission has channelized its efforts towards broadening the ambit of human rights to ensure the protection of the civil and political rights of the people as well as safeguard their economic, social, and cultural rights. 3. In a society as diverse as ours, the indivisibility and inter-connectedness of human rights, whether civil and political or economic, social and cultural, is self-evident, especially in respect of the most vulnerable, including people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Women, Children, Disabled and other vulnerable groups. The deprivation, problems and concerns that confront each of these groups, remained an important area of concern for the Commission during the period under review. 4. Accordingly, during 2016-2017, the Commission continued to intervene in matters concerning civil and political rights, on the basis of suo motu cognizance of media reports as well as complaints received.

It is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, situated at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands). Unlike the six principal organs of the United Nations, it is the only one not located in New York (USA). It settles legal disputes between States and gives advisory opinions in accordance with international law, on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies. It has 193 state parties and current President is Ronny Abraham. Background Article 33 of the United Nations Charter lists the negotiation, enquiry, mediation etc. methods for the pacific settlement of disputes between States. Some of these methods involve the services of third parties. Historically, mediation and arbitration preceded judicial settlement. The former was known in ancient India and the Islamic world, whilst numerous examples of the latter can be found in ancient Greece, in China, among the Arabian tribes, in maritime customary law in medieval Europe, and in Papal practice. The modern history of international arbitration: The first phase is generally recognized as dating back from the so-called Jay Treaty of 1794 between the United States of America and Great Britain. The Alabama Claims arbitration in 1872 between the United Kingdom and the United States marked the start of a second, even more decisive, phase. The Hague Peace Conference of 1899, convened on the initiative of the Russian Czar Nicholas II, marked the beginning of a third phase in the modern history of international arbitration.
