Registration and info desk Please register with the Resilient Cities 2019 congress team upon your arrival. Kindly make sure to bring your congress ticket (registration confirmation) with the QR code and present it at the registration desk either in electronic or printed format. Registration for the Congress opens on Tuesday, 25 June at 15:00 during the European Urban Resilience Forum. The registration desk is located in the entrance lobby of the GSI venue. At the registration desk you will receive a program booklet, your name badge, as well as meal and drink vouchers. Please wear your badge throughout the event to gain access to the congress sessions, side events, site visits and receptions. You are also kindly requested to return your badge holder and lanyard to the registration desk after the Congress. Registration desk opening hours: Tuesday, 25 June: 15:00 – 18:00 Wednesday, 26 June: 08:00 – 17:30 Thursday, 27 June: 08:00 – 17:30 Friday, 28 June: 08:30 – 16:30 How to reach the congress venue From Bonn Central Station: Take the underground/tram lines number 16 or 63 direction Bad Godesberg to the stop Max-Löbner- Straße. Alternatively, you may also take the tram line 66, detailed below. From ICE-Station /Bonn: Take the underground/tram line 66, direction Bonn/ to the stop Robert-Schuman-Platz. Exit to Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee. Trams 16 and 63 between Bonn Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and Max- Löbner-Straße run every 7 minutes. Most convenient airports From Airport (FRA) to Bonn: The offers international flight connections and is recommended for all non-stop connections. The best and fastest way to reach Bonn from Frankfurt Airport is by train. Once at the airport, go to the Frankfurt Airport Long Distance Train Station by following the signs Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof. This station is located in a 10-minute walk from Terminal 1. From the Frankfurt Airport Long Distance Train Station you can travel either by high-speed Inter City Express (ICE) train to Bonn/Siegburg or by direct train to Bonn Hbf (Central Station).

The direct ICE train to Bonn/Siegburg takes about 40 minutes and departs at least once every hour. The one-way ICE fare from Frankfurt Airport to Bonn/Siegburg is about 75 EUR. Tickets can be purchased online, from the (DB) info counter, or from one of the red and grey ticket machines at the station. Once you arrive in Bonn/Siegburg, you will find Tram 66 in the ground level, just 3 minutes away from train platform. All trams leaving from this station go towards Bonn and indicate direction Ramersdorf or Bad Honnef. Tram 66 will pass through the inner city, the Bonn Hbf (Central Station) and then bring you to the Southern parts of Bonn, including the stop close to the congress venue Robert-Schuman-Platz (see Fig.1). The ticket for a tram ride from Siegburg to Bonn costs ca. 6 EUR and must be purchased at a station vending machine or inside the tram (please make sure to have coins to pay with). 2 Please note: Train tickets purchased at Frankfurt Airport may include the cost of the tram. Alternatively, there are direct trains from Frankfurt Airport to Bonn Hbf (Central Station) via Mainz, along the river . Travel time is longer (1.5 – 2 hours), but the price is lower and you can enjoy a beautiful view along the river valley. From Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN) to Bonn: The closest international airport to Bonn is Cologne- Bonn Airport, with mainly European connections. This is a good option for those who have to change flights in a European capital. Take bus number SB60, which connects to downtown Bonn in 30 minutes, with final stop at Bonn Hbf (Central Station). At the airport, SB60 is located at Terminal 1. The ticket costs around 8.20 EUR and can be purchased at a vending machine or directly from the bus driver in cash. From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) to Bonn: When arriving at Düsseldorf Airport, take the free of charge SkyTrain shuttle to Düsseldorf Flughafen train station. From there you will find direct trains to Bonn Hbf (Central Station). The journey lasts approximately 1h 10 min and costs 15-20 EUR one way. Tickets can be purchased online, from the Deutsche Bahn (DB) info counter or from one of the red and grey ticket machines.

On the evening of Wednesday, 26 June, all participants are invited to the Resilient Cities 2019 Welcoming Networking Cocktail that will take place at the exhibition area (room S05-06). On the evening of Thursday, 27 June, the City of Bonn, official co-host of the Congress Series, invites all participants to the evening reception dinner with live music at the Kunstmuseum (Friedrich-Ebert- Allee 2, Bonn). The doors of the venue will open for congress participants starting from 18:30. At the reception, there will be a luggage/coat check. To reach the reception venue from the stop Max-Löbner-Straße, take the tram line 16, direction Köln, Niehl Sebastianstr. or line 63, direction Bonn, Tannenbusch Mitte to the stop Bonn, Gronau Heussallee/Museumsmeile (3 stops). Follow the sign for Bundeskunsthalle and exit. Alternatively, from the stop Robert-Schuman-Platz, take the tram line 66, direction Siegburg Bf or Bonn Hbf, get off at Bonn, Gronau Heussallee/Museumsmeile (3 stops), follow the sign for Bundeskunsthalle and exit.

3 Site Visits on Thursday, 27 June This year’s special 10th anniversary edition of the Congress offers five exciting site visits presenting know-how and best practices in disaster risk management, Nature-based Solutions, and protection of cultural and natural heritage from the German perspective. The site visits are organized by our esteemed partners: The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK); the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV); the Fire and Rescue Service of the City of Bonn; and the City of Essen. Important: Participants who have selected one of the following site visits:  13:30-17:30: The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK)  13:30-19:00: The City of Essen are kindly requested to be at the registration desk at 13:15. The buses will depart from the GSI venue at 13:30. After the site visits the buses will bring participants directly to the evening reception venue, Kunstmuseum (Friedrich-Ebert-Allee 2, Bonn). Please note that participants attending the site visit to BBK will have around one hour of free time (from 17:30 until 18:30) before the reception by the City of Bonn. In this regard, we recommend to visit the Haus der Geschichte (Museumsmeile Willy-Brandt-Allee 14) located within 3 minutes walking distance from the Kunstmuseum, where you can learn about German history after 1945. The entrance to the museum is free of charge. Alternatively, you might wish to spend your time before the evening reception dinner at the Café at the Kunstmuseum. Please note that the doors of the Kunstmuseum will be open for participants from 18:30, see Catering section on page 3 for more information. Participants who have selected one of the following site visits:  15:00-18:00: Bonn Fire and Rescue Service  15:00-18:30: North Route Excursion (Beuel)  15:00-18:30: South Route Excursion (Mehlem) are encouraged to attend the sessions taking place at the venue right before the site visits:  E1 Plenary training: Accessing finance  E2 Plant-Forward Food Systems  E3 Methods to assess future vulnerability and risk to heat stress (ZURES) Please be mindful that the buses will depart at 15:00 and you are kindly requested to be at the registration desk at 14:45. After the site visits the buses will bring participants directly to the evening reception venue, Kunstmuseum (Friedrich-Ebert-Allee 2, Bonn). Please be informed that there will be other sessions/side-events happening at the venue in parallel to the site visits. Exhibition and poster sessions The exhibition space is located near the registration desk, in room S05-06. It will also be the main area for networking during breaks. CDKN, Extrema and Aratos Systems B.V., the City of Bonn, FloodCitiSense, ISC3, iSCAPE, KIT Innovation HUB, Wetlands International, Global Covenant of Mayors and ICLEI are among this year’s exhibitors. Posters will be displayed in the exhibition area and presented on Wednesday, 26 June, 13:00-14:00 and Thursday, 27 June, 10:30-11:00. If you are a confirmed poster presenter and you have brought a poster for display with you, please approach the registration desk in the morning of Wednesday, 26 June for further directions. 4 Congress fee & payments The congress fee covers admission to the event, participation in all sessions and program special elements, congress materials, coffee breaks, three lunches, one welcoming networking cocktail, one evening reception hosted by the City of Bonn and one closing reception. Payments made after Friday, 17 June 2019: Please note that payments for registration made after Friday, 17 June might not arrive in our bank account in time for the congress opening. If you have made the payment after this date, please bring your bank transfer receipt or a copy of an online payment receipt with you and present it at the registration desk. Internet access High-speed internet connection will be available throughout the three congress days at GSI. The access code will be handed out to the participants at the registration desk. Quiet room / Prayer room The venue has a meditation or prayer room. Kindly ask at the GSI reception desk for directions.

Please be informed that accommodation booked through this webpage comes with a free public transportation ticket. Accommodation tax: As a congress participant and business traveler you may be exempt from the new accommodation tax (5% of the gross room rate) levied by the City of Bonn. This should be demonstrated by the presentation of the appropriate documents to the hotel staff such as the official accreditation for the Congress.

5 Practical information for international participants Weather: In Bonn, the weather in June is unpredictable. It can be sunny, warm and dry, or cloudy, rainy and cool. Please be prepared and bring suitable outerwear. Average maximum temperature in June is 21°C (69°F) and average minimum temperature is 12°C (53°F). You can find the weather forecast for Bonn here. Time: Summer time in Germany is CEST (GMT+2 hours). Electricity: 220V 50Hz European plugs with two circular metal pins are used (Type C/F).

We recommend withdrawing money at the airport upon your arrival, since many establishments do not accept credit card payments. There are several banks within walking distance of the GSI. The closest bank is the Volksbank along Heinemannstraße towards the Rheinaue Park. From the venue, turn right towards Heinemannstrasse, and take another right onto the main road. The bank is approximately 350 meters ahead on your left. In the opposite direction is the Maritim Hotel, which has an ATM. To get there from the congress venue, turn right towards Heinemannstrasse and take a left onto the main road. Turn right at Jean-Monet-Straße and left into the roundabout entrance of the hotel. Shopping in Bonn: GSI is located in the South of Bonn, 10 – 15 minutes by tram from the city center where you can access shops, post office, pharmacies, bakeries etc. to fulfil your needs. Shops are normally open until 20:00 from Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays. Within a 5 minute walking distance from the venue (Heinemannstraße), you will find a variety of restaurants.
