PATRICK EAKEN MIRROR SPORTS The Maumee girls soccer team set a school record, scor- ing 104 goals, but that is not the mark of which they are most proud. The Panthers finished the season 13-6-1 and comprise the first girls soccer team in school history to win sectional and district tournaments and quali- fy for regional action. Maumee lost to Celina 1-0 on a 4-3 penalty kick shootout after neither team scored through 80 minutes of regula- tion, nor 30 minutes of two sudden-victory overtime peri- ods during a Division II regional semifinal. The Panthers had outshot the Bulldogs 27-7, but the Western Buckeye League champs did what they had to do to end Maumee’s season. For first-year coach Holly Hamilton, a 2005 MHS gradu- ate who played club soccer at Bowling Green State University, it was an incredible ride. She says her girls did what they had to do, too, when they Maumee’s girls soccer team were regional qualifiers this year and finished up with a solid 13-6-1 record. The squad included (from left) back row, won three tournament games Sam Korsog, Brynn Sautter, Jacq Korsog, Olivia Dameron, Erica Tullis, Nicole Wong, Kenzie Winkle, Victoria Dameron; and front row, Maddy and went 3-3-1 against Woolford. OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION Dear OHSBCA Member, 1/20/11 Welcome to the 2011 OHSBCA State Coaches Clinic: “America’s Game”. The Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association has become the 2nd largest high school coaches’ association in the country. Coaches, national speakers, and vendors from all over the country feel that the Ohio High School Coaches Association Clinic is one of the best in the entire country. One of my favorite quotes comes from one of this year’s clinicians; John Cohen from Mississippi St. John speaks all over the country at not only big national conventions, but small ones too. He said, “Looking forward to seeing you at the clinic. You guys are first class and run an incredible clinic.” My hope is that you will feel the same after this weekend. I would also like to take time to welcome you to the Hyatt Regency, “Downtown Columbus”, and our home for the next few days. What an outstanding and first-class setting for one of the premiere high school coaches’ clinics. Please feel free to let any of the OHSBCA Board members or I know if we can personally help or assist you in any way this weekend while here at the clinic, or throughout the year. We, the board, wish to be the best representation of all our members’ coaches and their concerns. This weekend’s lineup consists of great speakers from all over the country. I thank each and everyone of you speakers for agreeing to come speak and promote this great game of baseball.

Patrick Eaken Tuesday, 30 December 2008 13:04 Outside of the top 15 sporting events of 2008, there’s plenty more to remember, including (in alphabetical order): • Cardinal Stritch girls’ basketball win third TAAC championship in five years as Coach Gary Lemle gets Coach of the Year. • Cardinal Stritch golfer Torey Brummett is named Toledo Area Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season after shooting a 68 at Detwiler. Waite senior golfer Tom Duris is named City League Player of the Year for the second straight season, but both golfers narrowly miss qualifying for the state golf meet. Lake golfer Matt Smith is named SLL Golfer of the Year. Another Waite athlete, Jeff Brown, advanced to the City League championship in first singles tennis, losing in the final. • Clay senior Alison Zsigray, Clay sophomore Kirsten Zsigray, Eastwood junior Amy Myers, Oak Harbor junior Katie Bechtel, and two Oak Harbor relay teams (400 and 200 freestyle—sophomore Jenna Diekman, junior Samantha Reynolds, freshman Allie Reynolds, sophomore Olivia Porter) qualify for the state swim meet in Canton. • Clay softball coach Brenda Radabaugh gets 300th career win in a 14-4 romp over defending Northern Lakes League champion Anthony Wayne at Pacesetter Park. After another win, Radabaugh was 301- 118 for her career (includes a stint at Central Catholic) midway through the 2008 season, and her Clay teams won three consecutive City League titles and three Great Lakes League titles.
