Highlights of Discussions

The meeting was convened to identify the target for IYCF and CMAM interventions, as well as the two priority activites for each strategic area/objective of the Nutrition Cluster response.

Strategic objectives and activities

The priority activities for each strategic area/objective are the following:

1. Promotion and protection of infant and young child feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E) as life- saving child survival interventions

a. Establishment of safe breastfeeding-friendly spaces/mother-baby corners, breastfeeding corners, human milk banks, breastfeeding kits and breastfeeding/IYCF and psycho-social counselling, mentoring and supervision (peer support groups, nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay health workers (BHW))

b. IEC campaigns

2. Prevention and management of acute malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies among vulnerable groups, including boys and girls under-5 years of age, pregnant and lactating women and older persons a. Management of acute malnutrition b. Blanket supplementary feeding

5. Strengthening cluster coordination capacity focusing on sub-national level

a. Development and approval of policies, protocols and guidelines on prevention and management of acute malnutrition

b. Coordination of nutrition in emergencies interventions (national and sub-national)

1. Dr. Saparbekov will update and share the list with the Nutrition Cluster as well as the Food Security Cluster

2. Dr. Saparbekov will identify and share with the Nutrition Cluster outcome indicators for the identified objectives

3. Assessment Group to work out the details of the SMART survey

4. Revisit Nutrition Cluster Strategic Plan and how it can be also the preparedness plan
