We investigated emergence and survival of seed- lings of endangered Pulsatila pratensis subsp. bohemica on dry grassland close to Prague (Czech Republic). We asked: (1) How are the field emergence and survival of seedlings affected by different plant communities? (2) Is the in situ seeding of lo- cal seeds a perspective method for the reinforcement of the declining population? In May 2010, we selected plots with domi- nant Festuca pallens (Festuca treatment), Geranium sanguineum accompanied by Festuca rupicola (Geranium treatment), and plots without any vegetation (Control treatment) and sewed 1350 seeds of P. pratensis. In October 2010, field emergence was 1.7, 2.6, and 1.3% in Festuca, Geranium, and Control treatments. In March 2011, only 4 and 3 seedlings were recorded in Festuca and Control treatments and no seedlings survived in Geranium treatment. By the end of 2011, only one seedling was alive in Control treatment and this seedling survived till October 2012. We concluded that in situ seeding was not an effective method for reinforcement of P. pratensis populations because of very low emergence rate and following survival of seedlings. field emergence; germination; pasqueflower; steppe plant communities INTRODUCTION improved by the mycorrhizal colonization (M o o r a et al., 2004). -

The knowledge of the flora of the Czech Republic has substantially improved since the second ver- sion of the national Red List was published, mainly due to large-scale field recording during the last decade and the resulting large national databases. In this paper, an updated Red List is presented and compared with the previous editions of 1979 and 2000. The complete updated Red List consists of 1720 taxa (listed in Electronic Appendix 1), accounting for more then a half (59.2%) of the native flora of the Czech Republic. Of the Red-Listed taxa, 156 (9.1% of the total number on the list) are in the A categories, which include taxa that have vanished from the flora or are not known to occur at present, 471 (27.4%) are classified as critically threatened, 357 (20.8%) as threatened and 356 (20.7%) as endangered. From 1979 to 2000 to 2012, there has been an increase in the total number of taxa included in the Red List (from 1190 to 1627 to 1720) and in most categories, mainly for the following reasons: (i) The continuing human pressure on many natural and semi-natural habitats is reflected in the increased vulnerability or level of threat to many vascular plants; some vulnerable species therefore became endangered, those endangered critically threatened, while species until recently not classified may be included in the Red List as vulnerable or even endangered. -

New localities of three rare and floristically interesting NATURA 2000 species in the north-western Dinaric Mountains in Croatia are presented in this paper. Pulsatilla grandis Wender. was found on the mountains around Rijeka, above Vinodol valley (Croatian Littoral), and in the central part of Mt Velebit. Genista holopetala (Koch) Bald. was found on the mountains around Rijeka and above Vinodol valley (Croatian Littoral), whileCypripedium calceolus L. was noticed on the southern part of Mt Velebit. Infor- mation about new sites will be of great help in the future research that is essential for all three species to ensure protection and assist in setting up population monitoring. Additionaly, it was ascertained that afforestation of grassland habitats by natural forest vegetation represents the greatest threat to P. -

Sexual reproduction plays an important role in the maintenance of the genetic variability of plant species. In the case of entomophilous species (like Pulsatilla grandis) pollinators are needed to this way of propagation. It is important to have complete knowledge on the pollinators to understand the biology of plant species. Our aim was to collect information about the pollinators of P. grandis, as there is no available data on the pollinators of this endangered species. We studied the flower-visiting species in 2017 and 2018 on the Csatár Hill near Veszprém (Hungary) in a population of about 2000 individuals of P. grandis. The number of collected Apis mellifera individuals (239) was the highest followed by Bombus (31 individuals) and Andrena (15 individuals) species. Lasioglossum, Polistes and Priocnemis species were collected as well. We collected 5 male insects which visit the flowers only for nectar but they can help the self-pollination as they are searching for nectar in the flower. We recorded the most intense flower visitation between 10-11 a.m. Our new results can help to develop the conservation strategy of P. -
Phylogeny of Hepatica (Ranunculaceae) and Origin of Hepatica Maxima Nakai Endemic to Ullung Island, Korea

SUGAWARA Abstract: Nuclear ITS, chloroplast atpB-rbcL spacer and trnL-F intron and spacer sequences, as well as amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) data, have been analyzed to infer a molecular phylogeny for the genus Hepatica and to determine the presumptive progenitor species of the Ullung Island (Korea) endemic H. maxima. Although all DNA sequence markers clearly demonstrate the monophyly of Hepatica and a sister group relationship with species of Anemone that share the same basic chromosome number (x = 7), they fail to reveal relationships within Hepatica. However, six synapomorphic indels and four mononucleotide repeats (microsatellites) have been detected in the plastid trnL-F sequences among species of the genus. Based on these data, at least 14 plastid types can be discriminated among populations of H. asiatica, H. henryi, H. insularis, and H. maxima. Both H. asiatica and H. insularis populations consist of various plastid haplotypes that do not cluster following specific distinctions based on morphology. The data suggest that H. maxima has originated from populations of H. asiatica located in the Kangwon Province of eastern South Korea. AFLP data confirm clustering ofH. maxima populations with those of H. asiatica from peninsular Korea and not with any populations of taxa from Japan (vars.
