Placement Of, and Types of Employment Obtained by Graduates John Brown University 2018-19 First Destination Survey Results Survey Administered by Raynisha Robinson, Report Prepared by Lynette Duncan, Director of Career Development Director of Institutional Research & Assessment February 21, 2020 TUG Quick Facts 96% of TUG Graduates landed* within 6 months of graduation *employed, in grad school, military, volunteering Response Rate: 94% Each respondent was counted only once 2 Introduction The JBU Career Development Center surveyed all prospective JBU graduates using the JBU First Destination Survey which reports future employment and education plans. This document summarizes the analysis of the survey given to December 2018, May 2019, and August 2019 graduates. The survey was administered to prospective graduates from JBU’s traditional undergraduate (TUG), online undergraduate (OLUG), and graduate (GR) programs. In 2018-19, there were 316 TUG graduates, 126 OLUG graduates, and 206 GR graduates. Employment/Grad School Rates 3 4 Detailed Post-Graduation Status TUG OLUG GR Percent of Percent of Percent of Post-Graduation Status Headcount Respondents Headcount Respondents Headcount Respondents Employed Full-Time 200 68% 57 73% 131 82% Employed Part-Time 28 9% 4 5% 8 5% Total Employed 228 77% 61 78% 139 87% Grad School* 75 25% 27 35% 12 8% Military 3 1% 0 0% 1 1% Volunteer 5 2% 0 0% 2 1% Year of Service 2 1% 0 0% 0 0% Total Landed (unduplicated 285 96% 74 95% 146 91% headcount)** Unemployed, searching 10 3% 3 4% 11 7% Unemployed, not searching 1 0% 1 1% 3 2% Total Number of Responses 296 78 160 Total Number of Graduates 316 126 206 Response Rate 94% 62% 78% *Respondents in grad school who were also employed were counted in both categories. ** “Total Landed” counts each graduate only once. 5 Internships Graduates were asked if they completed an internship prior to graduation. 6 Number of Jobs Applied For Graduates were asked “How many jobs have you applied for up this date?” If a graduate selected “None” but was already employed, they are shown as “Already Employed” on the chart. 7 Gross Salary Graduates were asked to indicate their gross salary range. Only graduates who reported Full-Time- Employment are included here. 8 Purpose for Completing Degree Graduates were asked to indicate their original purpose or purposes for completing their degree. 9 Meet Goals Employed graduates were asked to indicate whether or not their job met their goals for after-JBU- employment. 10 Career Assistance Students were asked if they received assistance from the Career Development Center, Professor in their major, faculty advisor, or “other”. They could select as many as apply. In addition to the self-reported CDC usage data, we used CDC records to determine if a student participated in a CDC event anytime from 2016-17 through 2018-19. 11 Handshake Usage Although not a part of the First Destination Survey, the Career Development Center collected usage statistics on Handshake. For this analysis, we analyzed Handshake usage by our 2018-19 graduates. Over half of TUG graduates logged into Handshake at least once, but only 25% completed a profile. Login and profile-creation rates were lower for GR and OLUG graduates. 12 Employers and Grad Schools Below is a list of employers and grad schools where respondents indicated they were working or attending graduate school.
