Louisiana Derby Grade II • $1,000,000 Guaranteed • 108th Running To Be Run Saturday, March 20, 2021 • 1 3/16 Miles Early Bird Nomination Fee of $400 due by Saturday, December 26, 2020, which also includes nomination fee for the first two races of Louisiana Derby Series: $200,000 guaranteed Lecomte Stakes (Grade III) on January 16, 2021, and $400,000 guaranteed Risen Star Stakes (Grade II) on February 13, 2021. The significant changes to its signature race and accompanying races, as well as the addition of two new dirt races for fillies and mares, highlight a record $7.24 million, 66-race stakes schedule for the 2009-2010 Fair Grounds meet. The 85-day Fair Grounds meet will have its earliest start date ever when the historic New Orleans racetrack opens on Friday, Nov. 6, a week earlier than last year and well ahead of the old Thanksgiving Day opener of years past. Closing day for the action-packed 21-week season will be Sunday, March 28. In recent years, the Louisiana Derby, which produced Kentucky Derby winners Black Gold (1924) and Grindstone (1996), had been a $600,000 race over 1 1/16 miles and was carded seven weeks prior to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. The momentous switch of the 97th Louisiana Derby to closing weekend, along with moving the Grade II, $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks to headline a stakes quartet for fillies and mares on Friday, March 26, has altered both series of races.

Third in the Rem- sen (G2) won by Brooklyn Strong at Aqueduct on Dec. 5 and fifth in the Sam Davis (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 6, Known Agenda looks to be a “getting good at the right time” horse with the addition of blinkers for his last two races. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. is a plus, even among the world’s best and post one. Known Agenda #2 Like the King, 50-1 Won the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park in his last race and his first career victory was on turf, so rac- ing on dirt for him is a question mark. In two starts on dirt, he was second in his career debut in July and third against allowance horses at Keeneland in October.
