Citywide Well Baby Clinics Citywide Well Baby Clinics You can attend any citywide Well baby clinic and they are there to provide information and support. They are run by the Community Nursery Nurses who will offer support and suggestions without necessarily weighing your baby. The current recommendations for routine well baby weighing is at 6-8 weeks (that should be done at the GP check) at 12 weeks and 16 weeks around the time your baby would have their immunisations. Well Baby Clinics are there for everyone but spaces are limited and it is appreciated if you only weigh your baby at those times. Length or height measurements are only done if there is a healthy weight concern. Please bring your Red Book to clinic to record any information All appointment clinics are booked via the SPA on 0113 843 5683 and can be booked 6 days in advance. Please be aware that well baby clinics may have to be closed at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances.     ST BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH, ARMLEY by C.R.A. Davies photographs THE SCHULZE ORGAN RESTORED BY HARRISON & HARRISON ST BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH, ARMLEY The organ was built in 1869 by J.F. Schulze & Sons of Paulinzelle, Germany, for T.S. Kennedy of Meanwood Towers, Leeds. A special wood-framed organ house, large enough for some 800 people, was built to accommodate it. In 1877 the organ was loaned to St Peter's Church Harrogate, and in 1879 it was installed by Brindley & Foster in the north transept of St Bartholomew's Church, with two additional Pedal stops (1 and 3) supplied by Schulze. The case of American walnut was made at this time. In 1905 the organ was rebuilt by J.J. Binns of Bramley, Leeds. Binns was a strong admirer of Schulze's work, and aimed to preserve the organ's musical character. He installed his patent pneumatic action and a new console, but retained the original pipework*, slider soundboards and much of the wind system. The only significant change since then was the removal of Binns's combination action in 1976. In 2004 the organ was comprehensively restored to its 1905 state, but with two alterations. First, the Choir and Echo Organs, which were placed low down at the back of the instrument, have been raised to the same level as the Great Organ so that their gentle sounds can be heard more clearly. Secondly, the 1976 piston system has been replaced by a modern setter system, unobtrusively installed together with electro-pneumatic drawstop mechanism on traditional lines.

  • This Meanwood Valley Walk Download
    An introduction to the The Meanwood Valley has long been celebrated as a ‘green artery’ in Leeds, bringing rural countryside into the heart of the city. In this green corridor is a rich mosaic of habitats, including woodland, lowland heath, meadow, watercourses and ponds. Though much of the valley is readily accessible from local urban areas, it provides an excellent opportunity to experience and enjoy wildlife in often seemingly-remote surroundings. The valley is centred on two watercourses, the topmost being Adel Beck which rises in Bramhope, but which gives way to Meanwood Beck just south of the Outer Ring Road. The becks are home to fish, such as stone loach and bullhead, as well as the native white-clawed crayfish, which is sadly now threatened. Keep your eyes open when walking near the becks and you may be lucky to spot one of our resident kingfishers or otters. Where the becks flow between boulders and within the woodland, the cool, moist conditions provide the perfect habitat for ferns, liverworts and mosses. In contrast, the poor, free-drain - ing soils and open and exposed conditions at Adel Moor are ideal for heather and if you’re particularly lucky, you may spot the com - mon lizards which live here. Small ponds along the valley are also the breeding grounds of frogs, toads and newts, including the protected great crested newt. The woodlands that cover much of the green space in the valley provide wonderful scenes of carpets of ground flora in spring and rich colours in the autumn. Mammals such as roe deer, stoats and several species of bats make the woodland their home, together with a wide variety of bird species, from house sparrows and long-tailed tits to jays, red kites and all three native woodpecker – the great spotted, lesser spotted and green woodpecker.
