Pen Pals: The Gwinnett bullpen is a combined 8-3 with a 2.79 ERA (39 ER in 126.0 IP), 10 holds and eight saves in 11 opportunities this season. RHP Cory Gearrin leads the way at 1-0 with a 0.54 ERA (1 ER in 16.2 IP) and two saves…he ranks fourth among IL relievers in fewest walks per 9.0 IP (1.08). RHP Jaye Chapman is 1-2, but has a 1.80 ERA (3 ER in 15.0 IP) and two saves…Chapman ranks third among IL relievers in lowest opponent average (.137) and fifth in fewest baserunners per 9.0 IP (7.80). RHP Buddy Carlyle, currently on the DL, also has an ERA near 2.00…he’s 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA (4 ER in 17.2 IP). JJ Quality Again: Since being optioned to Gwinnett by Atlanta following a shaky start (0-2, 9.37 ERA in 4 starts with the Braves), right-hander Jair Jurrjens has been strong for the G-Braves. He’s 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (3 ER in 15.0 IP) over two quality starts and has limited IL opponents to a .176 average (9-for-51). On Sunday, Jurrjens became the first G-Brave to work 8.0 innings this season (5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K in win vs. Charlotte). A career 50-35 with a 3.53 ERA in 119 Major League starts including 47-34, 3.48 with Atlanta, Jurrjens is 3-1 with a 3.44 ERA (13 ER in 34.0 IP) in six career Triple-A starts (all with Gwinnett).     MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).
