1B Class Assembly - The Magic Toys
On Friday 26 January, 1B performed their class assembly. To support their topic work on the history of toys, the children performed a dance called ‘The Magic Toys.’ The children, dressed as their favourite toy, came to life after the fairy doll (Ruby) jumped out of her musical box and sprinkled magical fairy dust on them. Each toy started to clean their shabby and dusty nursery. After their work was done, the children celebrated with their version of the Conga! Pupils finished their assembly with ‘The Teddy Bear Rock’, a great dance that had them stretching, flopping jigging and rocking. The whole school was invited to join in, providing pupils, teachers and parents with a good work out to start the day. It was a truly magical performance!

On Saturday 20 January, the Oak-Tree Group of Schools held an art exhibition at Lopping Hall, Loughton. The standard was very high and we were proud to exhibit work from Coopersale Hall. Oak-Tree Art Exhibition Continued The Oak-Tree Group hosted an amazing exhibition showcasing artwork from pupils across all four schools. This event was held at Lopping Hall in Loughton on Saturday 20 January.
The artwork represented all age groups across Braeside, Coopersale Hall, Oaklands and Normanhurst Schools. It featured work in a wide range of materials including textiles, painting, ceramics, collage and printmaking. The exhibition was very well attended and visitors were extremely impressed by the high standard and diverse range of artwork on display.
Upper Kindergarten Investigates- How Does It Move?
The Upper Kindergarten classes made boats this month as part of their topic on ‘How does it move?’. They used foil to create the shape of the boat which was a little fiddly but the children did a great job!
The boat floated perfectly when they put it in a bowl filled with water, and even when they tried to sink it by filling it up with passengers it still wouldn’t go down!
Karate District Sports
There have been some fantastic successes for Coopersale Hall in karate this month. Charlie competed in the 4th Annual District Sports, earning a hard-fought silver medal in the kumite section. From a team perspective it was also a great result. Coopersale Hall School took a large squad of over 15 children from yellow through to brown belt. After nearly 3 hours of competing against 11 other schools the team were tied in first place with Thomas Willingale School on points. Both schools had the same number of gold medals but it was finally decided in Coopersale Hall School’s favour as they had won 2 additional silver medals. It is the first time that Coopersale Hall School have won this event and as team captain Charlie was very proud of all the competitors who fought so hard.

I.S.A. National Swimming Gala
On Sunday 21 January two members of Coopersale Hall’s swimming team, Arwen and Oliver, represented the London North Area Team at the I.S.A. National Swimming Gala at the London Aquatics Centre, Stratford.
Both swimmers should be very proud or their achievements. Arwen swam in the Year 6 Girls 50m Backstroke and narrowly missed out on a medal by fractions of a second. She then swam the opening leg of the 200m Girls Year 6 Medley performing brilliantly and actually handed over in first place, unfortunately the team went on to finish just outside the medal positions.
Finally it was time for the Freestyle Relay races. Oliver went third for the Year 5 Boys and swam an excellent leg, once again the team finished just outside the medal positions. The last race was the Girls 200m Freestyle Relay. Arwen swam the anchor leg going last, amazingly the girls finished in silver medal position.
Mr Robinson would like to thank both of our swimmers for representing our school and the London North Area as well. Also a big thank you to the parents who spent all afternoon cheering on the swimmers.

United World Schools—The Gift of Reading Competition
In October 2017 the children in Years 4 and 5 took part in the United World Schools’ Gift of Reading Storybook Competition. Children were asked to write and illustrate a story about an animal for primary school aged children in Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal. The school is delighted that Louis Thornton and Charlie Ward were awarded joint third place. Susanna Worth of UWS said: “Thank you so much to every one who entered our Gift of Reading Storybook Competition. We were incredibly impressed by the creativity of all the submissions and would like to say a special thank you to each and every one of the schools who participated”. Joint 3rd Place - “The Lost Snow Leopard” - Written and illustrated by Louis Thornton “We really liked how Louis used snow leopard facts to bring his story to life”. Joint 3rd Place -”The Beautiful Peacock”- Written and illustrated by Charlie Ward “Charlie created an engaging cast of characters to tell the story of the importance of being kind”.
Year 3 and 4 Football Tournament
On Tuesday 30 January, Coopersale Hall took part in The Shooters Football Centre Year 3 & 4 Football Tournament held at their North Weald Centre. The first match in the group stage was against Moreton. The team performed brilliantly winning 15-3. The next match was against Jerounds School from Harlow. This was a much tighter game, but the team controlled it well winning 5-0. The last match in the group stage was against Roydon School, which the boys won comfortably 12-0. Next came the semi-final against local school Ivy Chimneys, the boys played with real confidence and determination winning 10-0. In the final both schools played brilliantly. Lambourne School were tough, highly organised opponents. At one point Coopersale Hall were leading 7-6. However, all credit to Lambourne who came back strongly in the last few minutes to win 10-7. The boys cannot be praised enough for their excellent play and highly positive attitude shown throughout the tournament. Thank you also to all the parents who turned up to cheer the boys on.
FOCHS Update After such a busy Christmas we have had a quiet start to the New Year, although this won't carry on for long! Look out for the return of Tuck Shop Friday after half term and we will also be welcoming the Living Eggs and Easter animals later on in the term. Both events are always much anticipated and enjoyed! We will be calling out for volunteers to help with the animals visit on Monday 26 March so if you may be able to spare an hour or two please do get in touch via the office, in person or at [email protected].

I.S.A. London North Area Cross Country
On Wednesday 24 January, Coopersale Hall School took part in the I.S.A. London North Area Cross Country Races, held at Rushmoor playing fields, Bedford. The weather was rather wet and the ground extremely muddy, but that did not stop the teams from performing brilliantly. The Year 5/6 girls went first on what was already becoming a very wet and difficult course. First home was Ruby the team Captain, finishing in an amazing 10th place and qualifying herself to run for the London North Area team in the I.S.A. National Cross Country finals later in the year. The rest of the girls battled through the mud showing real determination and effort. Then it was the turn of the boys, by now the course resembled a muddy track. First home was Harry in 10th place, and joined Ruby in qualifying for the I.S.A. Cross Country finals. The rest of the team showed real courage in completing the course so quickly. Mr Robinson would like to thank all of the pupils for their excellent positive attitude in the face of such difficult conditions. A massive well done to Ruby and Harry as they made Coopersale history by being the first pupils from the school to quality to represent the London North Area Team at the I.S.A. Cross Country finals. Year 3 Visit the St. Fitzwilliam Museum
On the 24 January Year 3 went to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. The children enjoyed an informative talk about the Egyptian artifacts held in the museum by the head of Egyptology. Then the children worked in small groups to answer questions and complete their worksheets. For many the highlight of the day was visiting the museum shop where each child purchased an Egyptian momentum! Everyone enjoyed the trip and learnt a lot.
Football Matches
On Monday 15 January Coopersale Hall School played two football matches at the Shooters Football Centre in North Weald. The first game was against Epping Upland School. The team played brilliantly winning 11-4. The second game was against Chipping Ongar School. In this game the good form continued and the team played even better, winning 12-1. Mr Robinson would like to thank all the boys for playing with such determination and effort. Also a big thank you to all of the parents who turned up to cheer the boys on.

Epping and Ongar Schools District Cross Country
On Wednesday 17 January Coopersale Hall School competed in the Epping and Ongar Schools District Cross Country Races, held at Love Lane playing fields in Ongar. In the very first race it was fantastic to watch Nia and Francesca lead from start to finish. Gold went to Nia and Silver to Francesca. In the same race Jessica finished an amazing 7th and was one of the first Year 3’s across the finish line. In the second race pupils performed brilliantly with Sonny finishing in 7th place, one of the first Year 3’s to finish the race. His performance was backed up by George who came 10th and Christian who came 15th. The third race saw the Years 5/6 Girls put on a fine display of distance running, with Darcey recording her best ever position, finishing in 4th. This was backed up by Arwen who took 7th place. Finally, it was the turn of the Years 5/6 Boys, and in a very fast race it was wonderful to watch Harry finish 4th and Ronnie 7th. Once again these performances were backed up brilliantly by Ben who took 14th place and Oliver, 18th – both Year 5’s. When all the points had been added Coopersale Hall took second place overall and won the Small Schools Cup for the 4th time in five years! Mr Robinson would like to thank all of the pupils for their determination and effort. Also a big thank you to all parents who turned up to cheer the pupils on.
